They are not afraid to add candy to the blizzards!

On the way to Dallas we saw this DQ right inside of Texas. We decided we needed a tasty treat so we quickly exited I-20.

There was a line at the drive-thru, and the person in front of us was slow. When we pulled up, the attendant was friendly and even explained what was in a certain blizzard without becoming frustrated. This particular DQ has two windows so we pulled up to the first to pay. The person at the second window must have had a large order, so they brought ours to the first window. This was nice so we wouldn't have to sit and wait.

The snickers blizzard was excellent. I'm not sure how many calories are in this thing (I don't want to know), but it was well worth it.

I have been to this Dairy Queen multiple times, as we normally have a Saturday night Blizzard. They always have plenty of topping to ice cream ratio, and for my wife who likes just a little topping, they go light for her on request. I have also enjoyed a hamburger or two here, and they are as good or better than most Dairy Queens.

The service at this location is hit or miss though, which kept me from giving it a 5 star rating. There were a couple times where the employees were less than customer service oriented, and one time they were out of ice cream and were rather curt when asked to make a Blizzard. If you are a Dairy Queen and don't have ice cream, you need to put up a very large sign, rather than making people wait to order only to be turned away. I did turn this information in to corporate headquarters, and to date there was no response.

On our return trip from Shreveport, and after having been out in the sun all day, we decided that a Dairy Queen Blizzard would hit the spot.  Now, I haven't had a blizzard in about 5 years, but this seemed like a nice splurge for the day.

The first DQ we saw was just over the Texas border, so we exited the highway immediately.  Not all DQs are created equal, but we were willing to take a chance.  We decided to get some chicken strips before enjoying our desserts.  After we ordered, the food arrived fairly quickly, though it was hot & fresh - no heat lamps here.  As chicken strips & gravy goes, the meal was pretty standard.  No major differences to distinguish it from any other fast food chain.  The staff was kind enough to wait to prepare our blizzards until after we were finished with our meal.  They even turned them upside down to show their thickness, which some DQs refuse to do these days (probably because they are afraid they will slide out after not being made properly).  No complaints on the blizzard end - how can you really go wrong with ice cream blended with candy?

Ok, so its just a fast food joint.  But the food was tasty, the blizzards were cold, and we got service with a smile.  Good enough for me as far as DQs go :)
