Great food. We had lunch here and the hamburger was excellent as well as the patty melt. Agree with other reviews that the fires are so-so, but the Texas Toothpicks are great. The ranch dipping sauce is addictive! My 5 year old even raved about the grilled cheese! Waitress was friendly and service was excellent. No complaints other than we might have expected a little more variety of beer selection. Would love to come back and try dinner outside with a band playing.

65 degree evening, a little breezy, and a welcoming fire pit outside to keep warm! Now that's a welcoming site, if i've ever seen one! This place has an indoor dining room, if you don't want to brave the elements. However, I think that's why we all go to these little places; the atmosphere, scenery, music, and of course food. The atmosphere was awesome, fire pit at sundown. The scenery was terrific, underneath the big trees. The music was cool, a local band playing 80's and 90's cover music. The food was great! I ordered Dale's Wahlburger, which was coocked to perfection, and has got to be in my top 5 of great tasting burgers in Austin.
Definitely a place to come back to in the near future.

Hole in the wall with a damn good burger.  We stopped in after an aborted trip to the  German spot that chose to close for New Year's Eve lunch.
Good service, bad decor, great prices.

I would skip anything other than the burger and next time I will pick the rings over the fries which were pretty average.

Food is pricey for what you get- however, their live music nights are fun with the right group of people.

WALBURGER MAKES MY TOP 5 BEST BURGERS EVER LIST! (Yes, I yelled that.)

Seriously, Dale's serves up one really good burger. What makes it a "top 5" burger? The meat! A generously-sized patty (I'm guessing 1/3 pound) that's doesn't dwarf the bun, doesn't fall apart, is actually seasoned with enough salt to bring out the flavor, and is not overcooked. Rarely do I find a burger joint that can pull off all that.  Then they take steps to not screw it up by keeping the rest of the burger parts straightforward - fresh lettuce/tomato, grilled onions and a nice soft unadorned bun.  I got mine with cheese and jalepenos (which were of the pickled variety - as it should be).

I didn't try the fries but can give a thumbs up to the beer-batter-style onion rings.

Dales' gets more props for a biergarten adjacent to the restaurant and Fireman's 4 on tap.

Well worth the drive to Walburg!

I'm in a hurry. But man am I full this place does German and beer well. I mean real well. I just came for the first time. Live music is entertaining. Food (buffet)  great German style all the way and fresh. It's my first day in Texas and this was unexpected mostly because of the atmosphere and music. Great beer great food great culture. Get some!

Texas toothpicks were really good! However we were NOT fans of the burgers, and the service, although friendly was horrific!

My wife and I always look forward to going to Dales Essenhaus. Here are the reasons:

1 Beer Garden: The beer garden is large, cool and shadey with plenty of tables and oak trees.Nightime  is particularly beautiful since you can see stars that you normally could not see due to encroaching city lights.Your in the country, man!

    2. Food: The Walburger is their top food item. The use freshly ground beef and you have to actually use 2 hands to lift it. Now if they had fresh-cut fries, that would be a great combination.

    3. Entertainment: They have an enclosed dance hall and an outdoor stage area. We usually go on Thursday night when they host Karoake.I believe they have live bands on Fri. and Sat. Rotel and the Tomatoes played there not too long ago.

    4. Family Environment: The whole atmosphere is very family- oriented with little kids playing and sometimes singing Karoake. You have a cool combination of grandparents, farmers and college students from Southwestern laughing and having some brewskis. It is also a dog-friendly place.

We always feel welcome at Dales Essenhaus. Highly recommend!

The burgers are the best thing here. The fries are not that great. Get the "Texas toothpicks" for your side.

Never ordered anything except the Walburger. It's good. Love it. No complaints. It's also a nice country drive out of the city if you're in a touring the country-side kinda mood.

Everyone talks about the great burgers --- and they are right!  However the catfish is also wonderful.  The onion rings are some of the best and you have to wash it down with a cold mug of beer!  Once a week is not too often to visit.

Amazing burgers, especially with the grilled onions.  Awesome onion rings too.  The atmosphere is 100% authentic Central Texas.

Not sure what we enjoyed more.  The burger, the onion rings, the great atmosphere of watching a band play under the stars.  (All that and $3.75 German beer!)  The boys had a fantastic time running around and watching the band.  We are already looking forward to our next trip out!

    Burger: THEE BEST EVER
Fries: Average, but I don't care because I drive 20 miles north for the burger.  In fact - skip them and just get the onion rings and put one on your burger.
Beer: Served in an Ice cold insulated mug
Bonus: I pass my dream house every time I go out there

The website says "Best Burger in Central Texas!" That is an exageration...NOT!!! This off the beaten path restaurant serves up awesome food in a small town atmosphere. You must try a burger and an order of onion rings at least once. You will be back for more!

Walburger with cheese, beer-battered onion rings, and a bottomless glass of iced tea.  Game, set, match.  You will be hard pressed to find a better burger or a better atmosphere in which to consume a hamburger.  Trust me--this place is well worth the drive.
