Great food. We had lunch here and the hamburger was excellent as well as the patty melt. Agree with other reviews that the fires are so-so, but the Texas Toothpicks are great. The ranch dipping sauce is addictive! My 5 year old even raved about the grilled cheese! Waitress was friendly and service was excellent. No complaints other than we might have expected a little more variety of beer selection. Would love to come back and try dinner outside with a band playing.
Review Source:65 degree evening, a little breezy, and a welcoming fire pit outside to keep warm! Now that's a welcoming site, if i've ever seen one! This place has an indoor dining room, if you don't want to brave the elements. However, I think that's why we all go to these little places; the atmosphere, scenery, music, and of course food. The atmosphere was awesome, fire pit at sundown. The scenery was terrific, underneath the big trees. The music was cool, a local band playing 80's and 90's cover music. The food was great! I ordered Dale's Wahlburger, which was coocked to perfection, and has got to be in my top 5 of great tasting burgers in Austin.
Definitely a place to come back to in the near future.
Hole in the wall with a damn good burger.  We stopped in after an aborted trip to the  German spot that chose to close for New Year's Eve lunch.
Good service, bad decor, great prices.
I would skip anything other than the burger and next time I will pick the rings over the fries which were pretty average.
WALBURGER MAKES MY TOP 5 BEST BURGERS EVER LIST! (Yes, I yelled that.)
Seriously, Dale's serves up one really good burger. What makes it a "top 5" burger? The meat! A generously-sized patty (I'm guessing 1/3 pound) that's doesn't dwarf the bun, doesn't fall apart, is actually seasoned with enough salt to bring out the flavor, and is not overcooked. Rarely do I find a burger joint that can pull off all that. Â Then they take steps to not screw it up by keeping the rest of the burger parts straightforward - fresh lettuce/tomato, grilled onions and a nice soft unadorned bun. Â I got mine with cheese and jalepenos (which were of the pickled variety - as it should be).
I didn't try the fries but can give a thumbs up to the beer-batter-style onion rings.
Dales' gets more props for a biergarten adjacent to the restaurant and Fireman's 4 on tap.
Well worth the drive to Walburg!
I'm in a hurry. But man am I full this place does German and beer well. I mean real well. I just came for the first time. Live music is entertaining. Food (buffet) Â great German style all the way and fresh. It's my first day in Texas and this was unexpected mostly because of the atmosphere and music. Great beer great food great culture. Get some!
Review Source:My wife and I always look forward to going to Dales Essenhaus. Here are the reasons:
1 Beer Garden: The beer garden is large, cool and shadey with plenty of tables and oak trees.Nightime  is particularly beautiful since you can see stars that you normally could not see due to encroaching city lights.Your in the country, man!
2. Food: The Walburger is their top food item. The use freshly ground beef and you have to actually use 2 hands to lift it. Now if they had fresh-cut fries, that would be a great combination.
3. Entertainment: They have an enclosed dance hall and an outdoor stage area. We usually go on Thursday night when they host Karoake.I believe they have live bands on Fri. and Sat. Rotel and the Tomatoes played there not too long ago.
4. Family Environment: The whole atmosphere is very family- oriented with little kids playing and sometimes singing Karoake. You have a cool combination of grandparents, farmers and college students from Southwestern laughing and having some brewskis. It is also a dog-friendly place.
We always feel welcome at Dales Essenhaus. Highly recommend!
