As an avid "yelper", I've learned to read reviews before eating at a non chain I've never heard of in a place I've never been. We were out visiting family in Hagerstown, and since it was a beautiful day, thought we'd go over to the Washington Monument, Crystal Grottoes (which is another review in and of itself), Antietam, etc.
The reviews told me go forth... so there I went. First and foremost... the BEER. Oh, the beer. 25 marvelous craft selections on tap and another score in bottles including big 22's by Southern Tier. Oh yes, oh yes, oh yes. Btw, this time of year is PUMPKIN ALE TIME! And lo, there was a fabulous one on tap (Wolavers, do it).
My husband ordered Nachos, which as far as an app goes weren't bad. The salads came with the meal not before, which I agree with past reviews is a little unorthodox, and I was so full by the end of my meal I never actually ate mine. He had fish and chips which were cooked to perfection, hand breaded and just fabulous. His fries, fresh cut and cooked enough to be pliable but not overly crispy. (Best way for them to soak up the malt vinegar). If you know my husband... he doesn't doggy bag anything. These... he took home half.
I had a burger, and be warned fellow diners... if you're used to under ordering the temperature of your burger in order to actually get it cooked how you like it... don't do it. I ordered medium rare expecting it to be medium and medium rare it came. That was ok, though, good beef isn't so bad a little bloody. Rawr.
If I had had it in me to get dessert I'd have loved to try it. My husband and I were both in agreement that if the "pub food" was this good, that if we're ever up that way again we'll gladly drop the money on a Delmonico steak and scallops.
We've been there 4 times now and every time has been great. I'm not a beer drinker but do sample the beers. Not being a beer drinker, I need a lot of help picking out a beer to try. What I like is that the wait staff is trained on the current offerings so each time I have enjoyed the recommendation given to me. We've also had the food each time and the food is great. I think this is a great place for great food and drinks to enjoy with friends and family.
Review Source:After walking the battlefield on a hot day, Â Dan's is just the place for a cold one. They have an extensive selection of craft beers in bottles and on tap. The restaurant is spotlessly clean, bright with comfortable uncrowded seating. Service is super prompt. Food is your basic pub fare but is really well done. Their salad dressings are home made.. The nachos are huge and delicious. Â Prices are fair.
