A serendipitous job interview for my hubby brought us to Berry Hill two years and five days after we were married there! (Good thing, too, since Mister had planned :nothing: for our anniversary...)
Anyhow, one of the fun re-visits we got to make was a meal on-site at Darby's. The Tavern is where you can grab lunch during the day, a casual dinner, or hit the bar. This venue is one of the only South Boston places open for a meal on Sundays, so it was very crowded with regulars this evening. We nabbed the last table, which is in the furthest room from the bar. Because of the old-era fireplace, it's really drafty. But the bartender, Travis -- doubling as the server -- did a phenomenal job tracking back to our corner and making sure we had everything we needed.
So glad I checked the reviews here because I noticed Michael W's tip that Sundays are BOGO apps. We got the recommended chicken quesadilla as well as the chili cheese fries. Both were tasty, but there could be some improvement. The quesadilla was packed with chicken, but had a tomato-y (almost Italian-like) sauce instead of a thick salsa or pico de gallo. The homemade chili on the cheese fries was a little tangy and packed some heat. I really liked it. But the cheese was already hardened onto the fries, rather than gooey and melted.
I'd gotten a burger on one of my previous visits; but this time I tried the pesto chicken sandwich. This was my least favorite of what we feasted on tonight. The bread is wonderful. And the sandwich was plump. But without aioli or maybe some lemon zest, it was dry and quite bland. The homemade chips are perfect though. And I managed to clean off my rather large serving of 'em.
Also nice to see that Fat Tire has been added to their beer list (where was that when I got married?!), rounding out an otherwise underwhelming group including Sam Adams and Corona.
