The real deal - An honest-to-gosh country diner

This place is what so many places pretend to be: A country cafe filled with locals, a friendly waitress, a potbellied stove and deer heads on the walls.

We stopped here 10 minutes before they closed, but they insisted it was no problem and made us 2 of the best burgers we've had in ages. Mine had fresh grilled green chiles, my husband's had mushrooms and Swiss cheese. The fries were perfect. Add a cold draft beer and just... Yum.

It's in a tiny town in the high desert on the east side of the Sierra. Make plans to stop here if you're in the area.

Wonderful cafe. We were greeted very friendly and the service was quick and curteous. The food was exceptional and so tasty, the country biscuits and gravy hit the spot and were a delight, eggs, hash browns cooked to perfection and the sausages had an excellent flavor. The ladies were friendly, welcomming and we had a nice little chat which included information about nearby excursions, and general info re road conditions, seasonal related info and more. Upon hearing which route we were taking back home one lady went out of her way to even call and check if the pass was open. Beyond general customer service, this was just really nice and caring. All in all an experience that we want to repeat as often as we can. Regards especially to Paula and her fur baby Charlie. Thank you!

Had breakfast here two days in a row. It was delicious. A little greasy, but other than that it was good. The ladies were really nice and sat and talked with us the whole time. We learned a lot about the surrounding area from them. The coffee was good and strong, and I always had a full cup. Definitely my favorite place to eat in this small town!
