Dinner was nice and the server was great!  Live music was very enjoyable.  We used a dealpolooza offer and they were very gracious about it.

D'Canters offered up a truly rare dining experience tonight.

We were a party of six for 4pm, which we planned so it would allow us some lingering and catching up time with old friends before the night time dinner rush so we wouldn't be taking up any tables they needed.

When we arrived, it was pretty empty and our table was around the corner from the door.  One of the servers asked if we were "with the party" and directed us where to go.  I was mildly surprised a general server would be that attentive to what was going on in the entire restaurant.

After our party arrived, our server started what would be an amazing journey and dining experience.  She explained the wine menu, and the wine flight, and explained how to get the best value for our money on the flight.  Little did we know that was just the first glimpse at the unparalleled service we would receive throughout our stay.

She recommended a wine for me that could not be more right on, and based on that I ordered the "game" of the day prepared rare, based on her recommendation when I would have gotten it medium rare on my own.  Another perfect call.  And it ended up being a fabulous meal.  Just the risotto side dish alone would have been amazing by itself.

Before ordering I asked about my gluten free issues and how they could/would be addressed.  She handled that like a pro and said all I needed to do was tell her the protein I wanted and she would take care of the rest with the chef.  She was aware of cross-contamination and how that works in a deep fryer, something many chefs don't even know about.

She went through a complete presentation of the menu, as if giving a sales presentation, which was amazing, as I could see where the menu could be a bit confusing if you just sat down and looked at it, as there are a wide variety of choices.

After dinner we sampled a couple desserts, and the creme brûlée was the best or at least ties with the best, that I have ever had.  Every bit of it was perfection, from the caramelized sugar, to the actual creme brûlée to the whipped cream.

The service was consistent and attentive yet unobtrusive.

The food was utterly amazing.  All six people were happy with their choices and we talked about what we'd get "next time".

I live quite a distance away, but am already trying to find an "excuse" to go back, and maybe bring some of my local friends.

Tucked away in a shopping center is D'Canters. I'm not big on  wine but I thought they had a n ice beer selection. That was until I tried ordering four different beers, each time I requested one the didn't have it.
My friend ordered some wine and we both ordered the Chilean sea bass for dinner. The food was good, service nothing short of inadequate.
I'm pretty sure I wont be going back anytime soon.

This place was in a slump for a spell.  My wufe and I returned for dinner last Saturday night  after a few months absence  and what a turn around for the positive.  New and much better menu with wider selection of entrees.  We shared a filet that was served over scalloped potatoes and with wonderful long green beans.  The entire  meal was cooked to perfection.   The wine list has been changed for the better.   I look forward to returning very soon.

My husband and I just moved to the La Cresta area and saw the restaurant on the way home and decided to stop and get takeout.  We walked in and was pleasantly surprised.  Great ambiance, staff, and live music.  The manager recommended the lamb chops for me and my husband ordered the salmon and both dishes were AMAZING!!  I also had a cup of gumbo and that was good as well. We have always complained about the restaurants in the Murrieta/Temecula area because the food is usually bland and/or lacking flavor.  But D'Canters is right on target.  This was our first experience and will not be our last.  THANK YOU for the amazing dinner!!

Never cared for this place.  Not much in the way of ambience, and it is pricey and the food just so-so.  I always found it very uppity, but there aren't a lot of "upscale" restaurants in Murrieta, so I guess that's why it's still around.  Drive a little further and have a good meal in Temecula.

I've been to D'Canters twice for brunch and both times had the same experience - amazing food and beyond crappy service. The first time I went for brunch with a girlfriend from out of town.  The waitress hurried us a lot and kept coming around to make eyes at the check and make it very clear we should leave? Give me a break! I like to take my time at brunch catching up with an old friend. We were there an hour and a half, tops. I was nervous about going back but my sister and her husband came to town and I thought we could give it another shot, especially since I had a buy one brunch get one free coupon from the local coupon magazine. We arrived and ordered drinks from the Bloody Mary bar (another big draw for me, I love bloody Mary's!) and it all went downhill from there. My sister and I ordered brunch and I ordered the kids bacon and eggs for my daughter. My sisters husband ordered some toast because he wasn't hungry. I presented the coupon as we ordered. The waitress took the coupon and asked if we wanted champagne. My sisters husband asked if he could have a glass of champagne as well. He never said anything about wanting it for free but the waitress made the comment, "using a coupon AND you want another champagne?" We thought it was a little odd but laughed because we assumed she was joking. The waitress appeared with the food and put pancakes down in front of my daughter. When I said that she had ordered bacon and eggs the waitress laughed and walked away. I assumed she would return with new food but she never did. I was distracted away from the issue with the kids meal when she brought the check and I noticed that she hadn't taken off one of the brunches. I reminded her of the coupon and she said very rudely that I had not given it to her. Everyone in my party kind of stared at each other because we all had seen her take the coupon when she took our order. At this point I was mortified. Then the waitress said she wasn't going to change the bill unless we produced the coupon.  My jaw almost hit the floor. She walked away and kept coming back and we would have a stare down and she would walk away.  Finally she came back with adjusted bills muttering about how someone had found a coupon in their car.  At that point my sister said you mean you found the coupon we handed you in your apron? The woman gave us an evil look and slammed the bills down.  She never came back and I took the bills up to the woman manning the Bloody Mary bar.  I was very near tears. I will NEVER go to D'Canters again. Too bad, because I would have given them 5 stars for the amazing food.

Ubber romantic, excellent service, perfectly chosen decor, and the food....no words to describe. YUM YUM!

Came here for our 15th wedding anniversary. They gave us a corner booth with a perfect view of the Christmas tree that was elegantly placed in the center of the dining room. They comped us a desert...we chose the Creme Brule' and I would highly recommend it.

My husband and I had a fabulous evening and this restaurant truly helped make it so. I've already recommended it to three friends.

Food was good, but not record-setting.  Wine selection was good but not record-setting.  Not that either of these issues should result in a 1 star rating, but there is one issue that should.  Dogs.  No dog should be allowed in a food establishment, period. When I want to sit down for a meal, the last thing I want is a hairy, drooling, crotch licking canine sitting on the floor next to me.  Service dog?  Ya right...  No, just an easy excuse for a freak that can't go anywhere without his "companion".  Dogs and restaurants do not mix and it is high time that either restaurant owners, the health department or the public step up and do something about it.  This place probably warrants a 4 star rating, but having to sit next to Fido as I was eating my sandwich  totally grossed me out.  So,  1 star.  Gross and completely unacceptable.  Come on people, grow up!

Something is definitely wrong with this restaurant.

First, the good - the decor is nice, the service brusque but reasonably fast, and the steaks ordered by our party of 4 were delectable.

The not-so-good: Beware, this restaurant is used by network marketing people to give pitches to their clientele; they take up one wing of the restaurant and if you don't pick your seat carefully, you get to hear their loud video describing in exacting detail what and how they want you to go out and sell their product!  This...detracts from the classy, romantic atmosphere this place wants desperately to project.

The bad: One member of our party who got the seafood gumbo came down with serious food poisoning.  And yes, we're sure it's from this place.

While it's true that this could just be bad luck, I urge people to look at some of the other lower-star reviews and you'll see a pattern.  Off-smells from the kitchen, and problems specifically with the handling of fish and shellfish.

My guess is that they have a problem with cleanliness or are inexperienced with the demands of properly handling or cooking seafood, which is a lot less forgiving than beef or chicken.

Honestly, there are better places out there than this one, and you won't be risking a trip to the hospital.  That said, if you do persist, stick with red meats and ask for things to be cooked well.

Good luck and don't say that you weren't warned!

    Love D'Canters.

Somehow the cooks have always prepared the food perfectly and the bartenders have also been a joy to deal with. Last night was one of those nights. We loved the Kobe burger sliders, and the new chicken enchilada was like no other I have had anywhere else; scrumptuous.  My friend also had the Kobe meatloaf sandwich that was so flavorful I couldn't keep my hands off of it.

If you should decide to give 'em a try do it on either Fri/Sat night when they have live music.

++SPECIAL NOTE to the classless Barbie-dolls who sit on the shared bench seating in the bar lounge, DON'T plop yourself next to me and park your d@mn! purse on top of mine. You'll soon find it tossed out in the parking lot!++  Mmm-kay? Thanks!

I was happily surprised by how much I liked this place. It's a little hard to consider something "fine dinning" when it's in a strip mall but this place has some serious good eats! And thanks to Deal Palooza my hubs and I were able splurge a little more than usual. Nothing says a Friday night date like sharing a bottle of wine with your favorite love over candle light and a plate of  lime jalapeno salmon delish. Mmm, mmm, good!!

Ok...you have to go here!! This was our first visit to D'Canter's and we went because we had a coupon. The food was DELICIOUS!! The service was FANTASTIC!! So many times after eating out the food tastes good but then in 30 min I start to feel sick to my stomach. NOT HERE! The food is made with all fresh ingredients and we were told they even make all their own desserts from scratch. I will have to try one next time. I had their Chicago Beef sandwich and everything from the French loaf to the Angus Roast Beef melted in my mouth. It was devine. This was the best beef...it was juicy and melted in my mouth. No need to pull out pieces due to fat strings. My hubby had their Ahi Yakatori Salad and he LOVED it. We also started with a cup of the black bean soup. I wasn't to hip on it because I like mine a little blended and chunky but the flavor was good and my hubby ate the whole thing. We will be back for Brunch, Lunch and Dinner. The restaurant is also comfortable and attractive. Very nice atmosphere.

Came back here for Father's Day with my husband and the baby. Since it's summer, it was still nice and bright out and they had outdoor seating options, very cool. We sat by the window with lots of natural lighting, another nice thing to do!

I came back and ordered the same dish I usually get, the crab stuffed jumbo shrimp with risotto and asparagus. My husband had the meatloaf, also very good. To start, we had the seared ahi with a side slaw, very good!

We had some local wines by the glass, served to us in small decanters. The waitress would even come by to refill our wine glasses from the small decanters. There are quite a bit of wines to choose from.

For dessert, we had the key lime pie, which was also delicious.

I like this place because it's great service, great food, and a little gem that's worth a stop.

I love D'Canters for dinner or Sunday brunch. The staff is always attentive and the restaurant is cozy. We've gone for work dinners, brunch with the family, or hosting guests. The food is always delicious, fresh and tasty.

Brunch is awesome, with the hot beignets to start with, champagne if you please, and either awesome lemon blueberry pancakes or a really good eggs benedict. My husband is a seafood lover, and can always get great gumbo here or shrimp that makes him a happy man!

Love the ambience - not overly formal, but just right to get out for the night, quiet to talk, but comfortable. White tablecloths, good wine, not too dark, not too bright. Refreshing.

My husband and I ventured to Temecula for a the daySaturday but needed to eat before tasting wine all day so I had heard and wanted to try D'Canters. I read about this restaurant in Inland Empire Magazine. We stopped in and there were only 3 tables filled. We were asked if we would prefer a booth or a table. We replied "booth" and we were seated in a comfortable booth by Caasi. She was adorable and made great suggestions. Just the right amount of attention and service. Hubby ordered crab salad and I ordered tenderloin melt. They were both super tasty. Our appetizer was the parmesean dip with crustini bread. We has some wine as well. I wish I could have had room for dessert. I thought this was a great place to eat and will return. Caasi gave great service and suggestions for us to have a great lunch

The short: My husband and I came here last night with a Groupon for our anniversary and had a wonderful time! Yummy wine, yummy food, reasonable prices, great service and romantic ambiance!

The long: How refreshing it is to find a restaurant like this in the Temecula Valley. I saw a Groupon for this restaurant a few months back on Groupon, checked out the Yelp reviews and decided we would try it for our anniversary. When we arrived I was pleased with the ambiance, not too bright and not too dark or loud, perfect for a special night out for our anniversary.

When we were seated we let our server know that we had a Groupon. Usually that is the kiss of death (in my experience, as soon as you tell the server you have a Groupon, the service goes down hill and they just want to get you out of there as quickly as possible... for good reason. Grouponers have a deserved bad rep). However, our server was very courteous, she explained to us exactly what we got with our Groupon and answered our questions. I also appreciated that our server recommended appetizers and desserts that weren't included with our Groupon.

First up: Ahi Skewers appetizer. I LOVED these! They were cooked perfectly (seared, raw in the center) and served with a yummy BBQ-type sauce.

Wine: included with our Groupon was two glasses of wine, we had the choice of Chardonnay or Cabernet Sauvignon. No contest for me! The Cab she served us was DELICIOUS, I ordered a second glass once I finished mine off. And the pours were VERY generous.

Salad: Our Groupon came with a salad for each of us, so we ordered the mixed greens salad. A little heavy on the dressing, but very yummy!

While we were waiting for our entrees a server came by carrying a basket with rolls in it, I thought that was cute haha. They were SO YUMMY! I believe they are homemade, they tasted homemade anyway.

Entrees: I had the crab stuffed jumbo shrimp, with rice and asparagus. Husband had Shiitake Crusted Chicken with Madeira Wine Sauce, Truffle whipped potatoes. It also came with asparagus. He didn't notice anything shiitake about the chicken and the asparagus was a tad undercooked, otherwise he thought it was good. My asparagus was also a little undercooked, but I thought my shrimps were good and they gave you a fair amount of shrimp as well. The sauce on top was creamy and yummy.

Lastly, dessert. Husband had the Sweet Potatoe Pie which he thought was too sweet and probably not made from scratch. I had the Chocolate Raspberry Bread Pudding a la mode, it was so yummy.

Overall we had a wonderful time and really liked the food. We will definitely be back!

Having heard of this place I wanted to find out if the Gumbo was really a Gumbo. It was the best I've had in CA.

I have read some reviews that dissed the service. My experience was quite different. I will go back particularly with special friends!!

There are some small details they are missing. We shared a Ceasar salad but only had a dinner fork on the table!?

If you want to be good in this market/economy you need to make sure the basics are inplace.

You are paying for the ambience... more or less.
My dad ordered the lobster... . . .. three stars
I ordered a pork dish with green tomatoes.... three stars
and my mom ordered pasta.... three stars.

    the food was basically mediocre.

I don't really have much to say about this place.
Will I come back? most likely not.
Was the service bad? not at all.
It's just that this place was not very memorable for the price tag.

The only place close by (Murrieta) for a truly special meal.  Murrieta doesn't have enough choices for quality restaurants... most are family type places, so one has to drive into Temecula most of the time.
D'Canters is on the border of Murrieta/Wildomar at Clinton Keith Rd and the 15 Fwy.  It is truly wonderful.  Everything is fresh and just made, even the desserts  - bread pudding comes hot out of the oven, bread/rolls are served warm (that alone tells you they put the extra touch on everything.)  Wines are quality, meats are like Kobe beef, and pork tenderloin, but there is also wonderful meat loaf, soft, savory and delectable - served w/mashed potatoes, gravy and asparagus.  Fried green tomatoes topped w/crabmeat are gourmet and cooked just right.  You won't go wrong with whatever you order.

In my opinion, leave the kids home, it is a bit pricey, but worth it for adults. Ambience is lovely, the service has never disappointed us.  Highly recommended.

Went here for my girlfriend's birthday dinner. I had their filet and it was incredible! Also their key lime pie was to die for. It's the BEST key lime pie I have ever eaten. The ambiance is beautiful. There was a guitar soloist playing in the bar area, the music was beautiful.

The wine selection, is of course, amazing!

Its a more upscale place, so dress nice. If you must wear jeans, wear your best!

I will go here again and again and again!

Excellent food, excellent service, excellent wine.

We came over on a Wednesday evening.  Although initially, I felt like I was in an old west saloon when I walked through the door (it seemed like everyone turned and looked at us), we were immediately greeted by a very nice host.  We were able to select our seating because it was not very crowded.

Our server was very sweet.  The restaurant was out of crab legs because of a seafood truck malfunction and she notified us immediately.  We were a little wishy washy about our wine selection, and she was very patient while we decided.  She helped me decide on my "pick three" deal and her advice was excellent.

Both the SO and I ordered from the 3 for $23 menu.  I ordered the salad, the pork loin, and the chocolate lava cake.  SO ordered the tuna skewers, the shiitake chicken, and the sweet potato pie.  Everything was really really good.  Well seasoned, flavorful, filling--very satisfying.  The meat was NOT dry.  We were so full we couldn't finish our desserts!

I highly recommend D'Canters.  It is a nice evening out when you don't want to cook and it would be a splendid end to a long day tasting wine.

I noticed that some of the other reviews said that the clientele are mostly older folks, but I did not see this to be the case on the night we visited.  There were people of a wide range of ages and shapes.  However, it might not be a super good place for families with little kids....it is pretty quiet and wine-bar-like.

I was surprised to find a place such as this one in the valley.  Located in a small shopping complex, I would have just drove by it had my friends not stopped here for dinner.  When we walked in, I thought I had walked into a Napa Valley restaurant.  The place was nice, clean and a breath of fresh air.  After several restaurant faux pas I was hoping to find something edible.  Our server was a sweetheart and attentive.  Rolls fresh out of the oven are a plus in my livre! I ordered the Panko Fried Shrimp that included coleslaw and fries.  I know, nothing too fancy, but I figured if they didn't get this right...

Once again my eyes were bigger than my stomach.  There they were, a group of fried shrimp line dancing on a bed of fries with coleslaw cheering them on.  Lightly battered and just enough crispiness to make my heart sing, I enjoyed my meal.  The fries were just right, not salty or greasy.  I heart coleslaw and this one was done perfectly.  Usually it has too much mayo and burns your throat because of all the vinegar restaurants use.  Just like the shrimp and fries, the coleslaw was flavorful and light.  With my meal I ordered a simple lemonade, which sealed the deal. My husband ordered the Gumbo and he loved it.  It was actually a stew and not watery!!  I had to taste it and I was pleased.  I think we will be coming back to D'Canters. Hopefully our next meal is as good as this one. :)

My mother is a huge fan of this place, so we went there for Mother's Day. What a disappointment. The "special" was halibut drowned in  frozen salad shrimp. My son's shish kebob was burned and his mushrooms were soggy. I ordered the shrimp scampi and not only could I not taste garlic, but not even salt. It was beyond bland. My father was brought a Jack and Coke, when he ordered a whiskey and club soda. I'm not sure if the bread was stale, as I didn't have any, but about everything else was messed up as could be.

Our server was nice and attentive enough, my complaint with this place was really the food.

The one gastronomical positive: I ordered the Thai tartare for a starter and I haven't had to run for the bathroom yet. Wish me luck...

My friend and I went here for Happy Hour yesterday and I was pleasantly surprised. The atmosphere, staff and service were all great. Not that I was expecting them to be bad, but after my last run in with a place that looked beautiful and had a ton of potential I was left very disappointed, so I didn't want to get my hopes up.

During Happy Hour they have $2 off wine and well drinks and a dollar off beer, as well as a Happy Hour food menu which is also $2 off. My friend and I both chose the Stuart Cellars White Merlot, which we had both enjoyed before. At 4 bucks a glass, a great deal! My firend ordered a salad, which was not on the special menu, but it was so delish I had to order one too! It was a grilled vegetable & arugula with
bleu cheese and a balsamic reduction dressing. Very tasty!

Our bartender Marty was very friendly and personable. The ambiance was nice and as it grew later they lite candles, so romantic (especially when your with a girlfriend....lol and not your boyfriend).

I will definitely be going back to enjoy the Happy Hour specials and the jalapeno salmon I have heard about.

I dined here with my fantastic parents on a weekend visit home. The company alone was 5 stars, but D'Canters needs some work.

It was packed on a rainy Saturday evening which bodes well for it, and I was pleased to see any local restaurant maintaining in this economy. The service was strange. We had two waitresses the whole time who continued to ask us the same questions because they obviously weren't communicating with each other. It took them until after our salads arrived to bring our wine flights (awesome by the way) and our bread.

My entree was the scallops over tomatoes and spinach. There was a fried artichoke piece on top, a creamy-almost-buerre-blanc sauce, and green onions on the plate. What? Green onions with those flavors? Yeah, it was really off-putting. The scallion flavor belonged no where on that dish. I would have settled for a shallot maybe, but no way a green onion. The scallops, and there were 6, were delicious and seared well. The dish was good except for that awkward punch of unwelcome scallion flavor.

Dessert was a molten lava cake that was delicious yet common and forgettable. My parents really enjoy this restaurant and enjoyed their meals (jalapeno salmon and bison short ribs), so I'll give this place the benefit of the doubt.

I am a regular here, about two nights a week for dinner. This is by far my favorite restaurant in the area. The service is excellent (of course I have my favorite couple of servers, Leah being one of them). The food is really really good. I have tried everything on the menu, and have liked it all. However, I have stuck to the jalepeno lime salmon. Best best best! I also have never been a wine drinker before I came here and tried the Stuart Cellars Vintage Port which I have with my dessert every time. Stuart Cellars winery in Temecula had made a couple hundred dollars off of me in the past few months thanks to D Canters carrying their amazing Port.
The owners here are very active in the restaurant and are very nice people. Even the bus boys are sooo nice, and cute!  The bar is great although I wish they had a blender.
Totally worth a try if you like higher end quality and service.

Thanks to my girl Lorna D. for organizing a lovely five-course wine pairing event for my "Girls Weekend."

Walking through the restaurant, our area was sectioned off for our private event.

The waitress greeted us with a Welcome Aperitif, which was some sparkling bubbly with an added Chambord.

Our first course was the Santa Fe Crab Tortilla (Chefs Specialty) and it was paired with Villa Maria Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand.  Fresh crab meat with a creamy (and slightly spicy) sauce and added crunch from the deep fried tortilla strips.

Second course was the Jalapeno Lime Salmon paired with Coppola "Director's Cut" Pinot Noir from Sonoma.  It came with slices of avocado, toasted bread, and a refreshing salad/salsa combination.  Again, some heat in this from the jalapeno, but I definitely appreciated the generous avocado to the dish.

Third course was Duck Three Ways paired with Prima Voce Super from Tuscan, Italy.  There was duck breast, duck confit, and foie gras alongside a few pieces of mini toasts. The duck breast and sauce was quite good, and the foie gras was just lovely on the toast, but the confit was only okay.  (Probably the only thing I didn't finish.)

Fourth course was the Caribou Scalloppini paired with Stonestreet Cabernet from Alexander Valley.  It also came with mashed potatoes (with truffle oil), asparagus, and a bread roll.  The caribou was a tender meat, as it came from a calf.  The mashed potatoes were very fragrant from the truffle oil, and the dark sauce helped add some further taste to the dish.

Fifth course was Bananas Foster paired with Santa Margarita Prosecco from Italy.  We were told it was cooked with three types of rum, although we couldn't really taste it.  The slice of ice cream was definitely melting among the sugary sweetness of the cooked bananas.  I was hoping for a sweeter wine to close off the evening and the Prosecco didn't quite do that.

Service was pretty good on the most part - our initial waitress was great.  She was friendly, personal, attentive, and knowledgeable.  However, when her shift was over, we weren't sure who replaced her and there was some attitude during the shift change.  It was something we tried to overlook since I was enjoying the company of friends.

Overall, I enjoyed the food and the wine pairing, and especially enjoyed the company of my girlfriends.  A lovely meal and experience at around $85/pp.

Came here on a company retreat in a group of about 25. The ambiance inside is very nice, and our waitress was rather capable considering the group size. The food presentation was very nice, and tasted good as well. Portion sizes were rather large (though we'd been snacking on junk all day prior to lunch). Dinner was mostly American-Provincial French fusion... think leafy greens, steak strip, grilled fish, that sort of thing.

All in all, a classy, tasty affair! A bit off the beaten path though. I'm curious how much off-the-street business they pull in.

I went on a Thursday night with a friend and there was a guy at the keyboard singing the night away.  The music was mellow and the owner got the volume just right.  The guy takes requests.

I got a three-glass wine sampler and my friend opted for a small bottle of cabernet savignon.

My friend and I shared the following dishes:
Thai beef, prawns and shitake chicken.
They were all very excellent and I was extremely pleased with the chicken!!!  I seldom get chicken because I think it's boring but this one was not.  It had nice texture and was served with brown sauce.  Delicious!

A great date place. A nice place to hang out and catch up with cool friends.
