Decanter Tapas & Wine Bar

with the words "decanter" or "tapas,"  you think about endless choices of wines from all over the world, special wine dispensers, decorations utilizing the corks from the opening of many wine bottles, those large round wine glasses, and the sights and aromas from cold and hot  Spanish appetizers.  i'm sorry to say, but this place did not have any of these things.  the wine list was short.  the decorations had no use of corks, but had some vibrant colorful paintings on bland white walls. one thing that i could not understand its use was the meat counter/refrigerator ( you know when you go to a butcher shop or a cheese shop, that glass counter that keeps the meat or cheese cool from prying customer hands.  this held the small selection of wine bottles that were available.  oh, the food was not from Spain or had any type of Spanish flair.  It was disappointing with appetizers like steamed clams, calamari, crab cakes, and salads like caesar, and walnut-apple, and entrees like reuben sandwiches and pasta.  i had the crab cakes were ok, nothing overly spectacular flavorful, moist crab meat, with a crunchy outside crust.  big deal, i can buy frozen ones at costco.  the calamari was crunchy because it was so overcooked.  it was really salty, too.  the steam clams, which i was so craving b/c i haven't had them in a long time, was a bit too salty, but had the most crunchy buttery and garlicky toasts.  i ordered the walnut-apple salad b/c nothing in the entree section striked my fancy.  the salad had crisp greens, crunchy green apples, brown sugared roasted walnuts, but smothered in the most  disappointing blue cheese dressing that probably was a mixture of chunks of blue cheese added to a store bought bottle of blue cheese dressing.  they just added too much, it took away from the flavors of the apples and walnuts, when you really want them to even out each other.  I also added chicken to the salad, which was so dry and unflavorful.  I guess maybe i had such a bad experience with this place b/c it was lunch.  i did look at the dinner menu, which added a few more italian style entrees, but still nothing spectacular.  i have to give this place 1 star, but i will try it again one day since this place has probably been open for less than a month.  it may improve i hope b/c it has a lot of potential.  stay tuned...
