Denny's Beer Barrel Pub was fantastic!. Â Â I am from this general area and was excited to get an opportunity to return while on a recent canoe venture. Â In fact it was so good it was our place of choice after the canoe venture before returning back to Pittsburgh as well. Â (Though let's be honest, where else are you going to go in Clearfield? Â
I recommend going with their regular burgers rather than attempting one of the bland 2+ options. Â These will be dressed more appropriately. Â Â The one I particularity liked in the 2 trips was the habernero one that had some good flavor and spice to it. Â Â I also advise hitting up the wings and sharing them at the table as they are a pleasant surprise to be good as well. Â Â
Lastly their beer choice was surprisingly extensive for a small town and offered a good selections of craft beers that appeared to rotate with regularity.
When we got there we just stood in a line going down the stairs into the restaurant. There was no hostess or anyone to tell us how long we would be waiting, we just stood there. Eventually the girl who was waiting tables came and took a couple people to tables as they became available. We probably waited about 25 minutes. Not a huge deal. But we didn't know how long we would be waiting, since no one talked to us, so it was a total crap-shoot in that regard.
The menu was massive (not necessarily a good thing). There were an incredible amount of options to choose from, as long as you wanted them exactly as stated on the menu. You can't modify any of the meals. We had a group of six people, and wanted two appetizers to munch on while we waited. Unfortunately the appetizers that were big enough for six were all over $15. The cheaper priced appetizers were small and still over priced compared to other places.
I ended up getting the Paterno Burger for my meal, since the place is known for burgers and all. It was good. Good as in average for any burger you would get at any other restaurant.
To be honest, if it wasn't for the fact that they have a world record burger on the menu, this place would be nothing special. Â And if you don't care about world record burgers (I don't) then there is nothing special about this restaurant... Other than the fact it's one of about three places to eat in town.
Oh, and you have to pay for water.
