Stopped here driving though town because of so many cars in the parking lot, I hoped that meant it was good! It was worth the stop, I got a slab of baby back ribs and two sides (slaw very good, and Mac and cheese nothing special) about $15. But I wish I got more ribs or tried other meats! I'd definitely stop again, and or wish it was closer! The mustard BBQ sauces was my favorite one. Â
Nice picnic area in the back, if traveling with pets.
We visited on a Sunday, 8/25/13 @12:30 PM. That's probably the busiest time for this restaurant.
We were greeted with a smile right away and told to sit anywhere. There was a party in one room, but we managed to find a table in front by the window.
The CHEERFUL server came by almost immediately with menus and took our drink order.
The iced tea was delicious!
The special of the day was half a chicken with garlic toast and two sides for$7.99 (!!) we chose BBQ beans (made from scratch in house) cole slaw, and french fries. Sweet potatoes are available for a small upcharge.
The food was served quickly. The generous serving of fries were perfect and the slaw was some of the best I've ever tasted. Four BBQ sauces are offered, sweet, mild, hot, and mustard.
We didn't love the beans, but maybe other people would. I thought they were too sweet. The portion was served in a soup sized bowl! No skimping on portion size here.
The chicken was superb. It had a light smoky flavor, and fall off the bone tenderness.
It was listed on the daily special board as "all you can eat," but it was more than I could eat.
The sever kept our delicious tea full throughout our meal.
The dining room is clean and bright, and though the restrooms are dated, they're clean too.

There is also a take-out window if you just want to stop by and grab a quick bite.
Concrete picnic tables are out back beside the lake where you can enjoy a takeout meal, weather permitting
Dianne's is easily the best restaurant on the highway in this small town (there are only two), and they seemed to be doing everything right while we were there.
Next time we visit, I'll try the spare ribs.
NOTE: for some reason, Yelp has 4 more reviews and a different address for Dianne's here: Â
<a href="http://www.yelp.com/biz/diannes-old-time-barbeque-hawthorne#query:Diannes%20Old%20Time%20BBQ">http://www.yelp.com/biz/…</a>
I'm not sure which address is correct, but the map looks like the actual location.
It's easy to find, just look on the East side of HWY 301 in Hawthorne, it's a little south of HWY 20.
Stopped by this place on our way to Jax from Ocala. It looked quaint and we had high hopes for it. If it were not for the fact that we were starving, we would have left on the first bite. This is not barbque! The chicken and ribs were pink, but no smokey flavor of good barbque at all. We asked for the mac-n-cheese and the waitress informed us that it had not thawed out yet-what???? It is not that time consuming or hard to make homemade mac-n-cheese. We will definitely wait next time to get to Jax for good barbque at Mojo's!
