Went here the other night to meet some friends after work, the appetizers were pretty good, nachos and buffalo wings, but the service was very slow and the place is so loud, lots of TVs so it may be good for watching sports, but not for talking.

Great place for sports fans! Fantastic LCD TVs and LOTS of them, its a pretty large bar with full menu, very good food too. Located downtown close to everything, the only thing is its very loud because its high ceilings and wide open floor plan.

Pretty good drinks, not too weak and the food is good. Free popcorn, awesome TV's for the games, thats the main reason I go here. Gets crazy loud on weekends but fun.

Great service and atmosphere and great portions and flavors!  My wife and I can't say enough about the awesome atmosphere here and we plan on returning when we're in the area again! Great service, portions and friendly staff!

We just went here for lunch, so I can't comment on this place's party atmosphere, but I would agree that it is definitely a sports bar, not an Irish pub. It has tons of tvs, and even one in the bathroom so you don't miss a second of the game.

The menu was large and prices were moderate, with most items ranging from $8-15. I LOVED that they had many options that were heart healthy (and were marked as such on the menu). I had the turducken burger (a heart healthy item), and it was quite delicious. We were with a large party (20+ ppl), and our waitress did a pretty good job  tending to all of us. The beers were huge, which perhaps explains the high prices people were complaining about.

I would normally rate this 3 stars, but the decent service for a large party and the numerous healthy options bumped me up to 4 stars. Healthy, interesting options are so hard to find. Some chains have them, but they are often so boring (aka salmon with starch and veggie, chicken with starch and veggie...zzzzzz). However, this place seems to make a commitment to having healthy options for their customers. Thanks for that!

This is a typical popular Rochester bar.....very similar to WhistleBinkies---open, loud, same aesthetic---basically a place where you can make sure you are "seen at"  Was not impressed with the food, drink, service or anything but I guess I like the cozy little pub feel of the bars in St Paul---where you can actually just go and talk to who your with and enjoy a cold one vs. scanning all the time to see if you know anybody that just walked in and are you sure people noticed how cool you were to be there.  If that is your thing it will rank high in your book---

As a visitor, you should visit Dooley's.  As a local, I try not to make it a habit.  The atmosphere is great, it offers the only dance floor downtown, free popcorn (total win for me), but the drinks are super expensive.  I paid 8 or 9 dollars for a long island, a pint of beer is probably about 7 dollars.  As a result, this is where people typically end their night.  Get drunk elsewhere where the drink prices are reasonable and then end up here  for some dancing once you're good and saucy.  I also don't like how prissy they are - no winter hats, sweat pants, or pajamas are allowed.  It's a pub, it shouldn't have a dress code.

First, let's get this out of the way. Dooley's is NOT an Irish pub. It's a sports bar. Set your expectations accordingly.

Okay, so Dooley's does a lot right. They have TVs everywhere, all running on fiber optic cable so the picture is fantastic.  On any given game day they will have 2-5 games on what seems like dozens of TV, including two huge projections screens.  Great place to watch a game, and family friendly during normal hours.  After dark it turns into a pseudo dance club, and the place is usually packed with 20 somethings.

The food is average to above average bar food. Their version of the Juicy Lucy is good, and I also like their chicken Philly.  The fish tacos are mediocre. Wasabi coleslaw is a must for the side. Decent tap selection, with a few local craft beers on tap, even if the beer is a bit expensive.

Great music mix ......Best walleye appetizer we had in Rochester. Great chicken noodle soup, great ham and potato soup, great buger. Lots of TV's so you can alway find something to watch. Walking distance to Mayo....

This place lends new meaning to the word mediocre.  I walked the block from my office to eat lunch here today.  I initially ordered a pasta dish.  Big mistake.  The pasta must have sat in water for hours, maybe days.  It was mush.  Can anyone say al dente?  The marinara sauce was like colored water, and they were out of Italian meatballs.  Maybe they would have saved the dish, but I doubt it.  I sent this back and ordered your basic burger.  It came in a blood-drenched basket, even the pickles were red.  Very tacky.  This suggests that the burger was juicy at least, but, oh no, it was completely flavorless, par for the Dooley's course.  One wonders if they use frozen hamburger, in the form of the frozen hockey pucks made at Rochester Meats.  Also, it took well over an hour for all of this to play out.  In conclusion, it appears clear that the people preparing the food here appear not to have a single clue about what they're doing.  Given the low expectations in Rochester, they can get by with their amateur approach.  In any other city, this place would be out of business in a month.   The moral to the story is never order pasta in a hamburger joint, particularly when the hamburgers are well below average.

In Rochester seeing Mayo and came across Dooleys. Amazing electronics, music and  tv's. After a half dozen people asked for pics the
Tv tech without me knowing went on <a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2FBunnyranch.com&s=dcb2efe579144a208a4868366fb8a31bd4305d51d39ea277b4abb56edf51582d" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://Bunnyranch.com</a> and put a slide of my B Day party on all the tv screens. Very cool.

Food loved it, especially the pull pork quesadilla's the wings were big and great.

Server, very young and hot, very surprised they can serve under 21, every state has different laws. She was great at her job and full of energy.

Ambiance, sports bar with high tech sound and tv. It's as nice as sports bars get,  ANYWHERE. Tory the owner came by and said hi, they opened 16 months ago.

Loved it want to try the sliders next.

The reason why i moved out of Rochester because there were NO NIGHTCLUBS, ok i am kidding. I was in town for the the week to visit my family and  high school friends. A  friend told me about this place that there's a dance floor...i was shocked. I said I gotta check it out, yes it was true! It was an 'ok' size dance floor....music was great...

I guess if you want to dance, this is the place!

Friendly bartenders and nice ambiance.  I went during the day.  I feel like it would be busy at night judging by the number of flat screen TVs.

Disclaimer: rating is based on a Rochester curve (in any case, a certain b*tchy waitress aside--read on, my friend!--Dooley's would get a solid 2.5-3 based on Seattle standards).

Dooley's is full of contradictions. It asserts that it's an Irish pub but walk inside and the modern-ish wooden interior, sleekish bar, football team pendants, and 10 TV screens playing sports will beg to differ. (The giant stained glass leprechaun window inside does not an Irish bar make!) You might think an Irish bar would be pretty laid back but Dooley's has a slight dress code (no white t-shirts for guys) that is enforced only some of the time (they'll usually let you slide if the place isn't that full but on a busy Friday night, they might get uppity about it).

In any case, Dooley's gets stars because their drinks are reasonably priced (~$7 for pretty good, strong drinks), most of the bartenders are friendly, and it's a pretty fun place to dance on Friday nights. Although the dance floor is pretty small (created by pushing some tables to the side in an area separated from the rest of the bar by a 4-foot wall), the crowd is pretty fun and the music ranges from Journey to Black Eyed Peas to Michael Jackson. It's not much, but for Rochester, this is the place to dance the night away if you're not into the grungy dive bar scene.

Other notes: free popcorn! Haven't tried the food yet but it looks pretty good and I've heard pretty good things about it from friends who have tried it (prices are ~$11/entree). There's a certain waitress there who likes to set her own rules ($10 credit card minimum; makes you pay for tap water) but just bypass the bitchiness, move on down the bar, and talk to one of the other nice bartenders that are working there. The outdoor patio is pretty big and is great for summer nights. I brought my small dog along for drinks with my friends once and they not only welcomed her--they even brought a tray of roast beef out just for her!

I agree with the other reviews that this place is more of a sports bar than Irish pub, but who cares.  Being a Rochester native, it is nice to see some sort of action downtown.  Any by action, I mean old dudes hitting on younger gals.  Gives all of us creepy men a glimmer of hope.

I would rate the service at the bar with less than one star. The taste of the sliders, really good four stars, cost for those sliders.... well, good thing my corporate card was buying.

So many beers on tap its almost hard to choose. Food is great and was introduced to pepper on popcorn, it was really good.

It's all about why you're going to a place.... This is a sports bar and they fit that bill perfectly.  If you want this place to serve you fine food and be quiet enough for a special evening out, you've got the wrong expectations. Go to this place if you want to watch games or meet up with a group of friends... For those of us born/raised in Rochester, this is the new generation McMurphy's and it's exactly what I would expect.  Thanks to the owners for resurrecting our old meeting place.

Excellent place!  We came here because it was Labor Day and Sontes and Billotti's were closed.  We were very pleasantly surprised.  It is very spacious and clean on the inside with tons of tvs plastered all around the restaurant.  The food was very priced well and was excellent.
Definitely a fan of the place now and will come back for sure.
The location is great downtown as there is tons of parking all around the place and a garage right next door as well!

If you're going here to eat anything other than popcorn I would save your money! I had toasted cheese @ lunch, first it was made as a ham and cheese which I didn't order, then it came out with 2 unmatching slices of bread & the cheese was hardly melted! Looks like they don't care about the presentation or quality of their food! I would still go here for drinks because it's a realty cool atmosphere and usually pretty busy in the evenings but just pick up dinner somewhere else before you go.

A better option for the downtown area.  New interior is always nice on the eyes. Lots of space around the bar for easier ordering. TVs are literally within every possible viewing angle.

One real problem is the weekend drink price increase.  Total rubbish. I order the same drink three times with three different prices. All increased.

Standard bar fare is what one would expect.

Could use some better DJs- reminds me of dreadful wedding.

They call this Irish? Well, they have a leprechaun for a mascot and Guinness on tap, but that's about all that's Irish about this place. "Sports bar" would be a better descriptor--I think they have more TVs than the local Best Buy.

I'm not exactly sure what kind of vibe they are going for, and I don't think they owners do either. I don't just say this on account of the bar's mistaken identity as an "Irish Pub"; the physical layout is confusing as well. The booths around the perimeter of the place are a buzzkill for a pub-like atmosphere--they make me feel like I'm in TGIFridays. On the other hand, the circular bar in the middle is hard to miss. It seems that the area toward the back, just past the bar, is the official "stand around and mingle" area, which seems problematic since it wasn't intended for this, and loiterers impede foot traffic. Is this one of those "get your drink at the bar, then find some people to stand and chat with" places? It's not clear. Oh yeah, there's a patio outside (on the sidewalk) too. I guess this is the type of place you go when you're not sure how you want to roll. The crowd here seems younger than at other places, although people of all ages could be found (yeah, someone even brought an infant when I was here one evening).

The perks? Well, they have Guinness on tap and all-you-can-eat popcorn to munch on (à la Newt's--yum!). Oh yeah, did I mention they have Guinness on tap? This is so-far the only bar in downtown Rochester I've found that has Guinness on tap, although I will admit that my search has not been exhaustive. I just know that Kathy's doesn't have it on tap. Neither does Chesters, Redwood Room or City Cafe/Newt's.

Okay, maybe Dooley's isn't so bad. If tolerating the faux Irish Pub shtick is the price I have to pay for Guinness on tap, so be it.

Prices were average and the waitstaff was good. I could see myself coming back here again.

I experienced Dooley's for the first time by accident, and it was a pleasant-enough experience. The owner and the service staff were excellent -- friendly and prompt. I had two different on-tap beers and both were very good, as was the popcorn.

The two downsides to this place are 1) the location, being downtown, is a hassle to get to and park near unless you are already downtown anyway, and; 2) it was quite noisey, even on a Tuesday afternoon at 4:30PM.

Overall, I think if I was downtown and decided I needed to drop in to a cool, clean pub for a brew or two, I wouldn't hesitate to stop at Dooleys Pub. However, I don't think I would drive downtown just for that.

Nothing Irish about this place at all. It's a sports bar with a lot of large tvs, American bar food and drinks. Food is below apple bees as a reference. Price is ok for what it is. The music was way too loud when we were there, everyone at my table had to lean over and talk loudly to converse. Music was good, lots of 80s music when we were there on a Saturday.
