I have this slight obsession that I want to be able to walk to a bar from my hotel and mingle with the locals when I'm vacationing. Â You know, like in movies. Â For whatever reason, I haven't been able to do this yet. Â
I sought my chance with Dos Loco since it was right across the street from my hotel. Â Ehh, close enough to a bar, I thought. Â But I learned something my first night in Hope. Â It's in a dry county. Â Fun fact: Â More than half of the counties in Arkansas are dry. Â That meant no bars. Â No beer at the Walmart which was also kind of across the street from me. Â And no margaritas at Dos Loco. Â The waiter I asked about booze was very sweet, but I left the restaurant since I had dinner elsewhere and was just looking for a drink.
Came back the second night for dinner with my family. Â Was not expecting anything special since us Texans are snobs when it comes to Mexican food. Â It's true. Â However, I was pleasantly surprised.
-Salsa was delicious. Â Spicy, but not overpowering, and good flavor. Â Better than many other restaurants I've been to.
-Beef enchilada, beef fajitas and grilled chicken (from a salad) were ok. Tasty enough and up to par with any other place.
-Rice was equally as delicious as the salsa. Â All the food was definitely more of a tex-mex quality than authentic, pero no problema!
-I did not eat the beans. Â I hate beans. Â My sister ate some, although, I did not ask how she liked them.
-Sopapillas were effing amazing. Â I've never had one so soft and fluffy before. Â They were served as huge puffed up circles and easily ripped apart for sharing.
Absolutely recommend this restaurant if you're [stuck] in Hope. Â ;p Â
Aw, I'm teasing, Hope was aight -we cool.
Important to note that this is a dry county. Took a while to get that out of our server; was more of a guessing game.
"What do you have on tap?" -nothing. Â
"Oh. How about by the bottle?" -nothing.
"Gee, I really feel like a beer." -sorry, it's a dry county.
Could that not have been the answer to the first question?
Fajitas were fine (for Interstate roadside Arkansas), if a bit salty. Regular customers and staff were friendly.
