So I haven't eaten here in a while. I started eating at Doyle's when we would vacation in Murphy some ten plus years ago. It was absolutely great then. Sometime in the last five to six years, just not so good.
My last review clearly stated my disappointment and my wife and I decided to never return.

Recently, I received an invite through Yelp from Dolye to come back and give them another try.
I would like to think that I am open minded so Saturday night we took up this offer to see if things truly have changed at Doyle's.
We arrived at 1800 and were greeted by a pleasant young guy who promptly seated us. Our waitress was busy at another table and he told us about the specials.
Come to find out he himself was a waiter. I must comment that he was a team player and took pride in his job, helping the others.
I kind of wished he had been our waiter.
Our service was good and friendly, not really any complaints.

    The food:
We ordered the Southwest egg rolls. I am not much of a fan of these anywhere I go. My wife commented that they could have been any places egg rolls, nothing out standing.
I got the French onion soup. It was delicious. As you see from my other reviews, I love a good soup.
This was a nice bowl of soup.
For dinner I order a special, I got the rack of lamb. It was splendid. The flavor was perfect. It was cooked medium and tasted delicious.
My wife got the pan seered Filet. It came out a perfect medium. The flavor was good, however, I think it could have used more seasonings.
    Sides:
Our choice of starch were garlic mashed potatoes or rice pilof.
Neither really excites me. I would personally ordered a baked potato with butter on the side.
My wife just said they were like anyone mashed potatoes.
The vegetable side was good and nice to see fresh vegetables on a plate.

Whatever Doyle did has made a difference.
The service was good with the bright star being the guy who greeted us.
The food was delicious and not what anyone would expect at a typical place in Murphy.

    Thanks for the invite back.
Keep up the good work. Murphy can use many more places with your higher standards.

My wife and I ate there "again" and were again dissapointed.  We've eaten there several times and the food varies from pretty darn good to very very bad.  You just don't know what you are going to get when you go in.  The waitress was polite, but definitely an air head.  My wife ordered steak medium rare and it arrive almost raw.  The mashed potatoes were cold.  I don't recomend this restaurant.  I don't mind paying higher prices, but not for such hit and miss food.

Five of my girlfriends and I (plus 2 children under the age of 2) stayed in Andrews in August for the first time.  Every year we have an annual summer trip and this year we decided to explore the mountains of NC.  We knew the restaurant options would be limited, but we were excited to try Doyle's when we just happened to drive by the restaurant in our search for a place to have lunch.  Big mistake!!

The layout of the restaurant was confusing so we walked onto the patio first and the waitress looked at us like we were crazy.  No thanks to her, we made our way inside and were "greeted" by a blah hostess who looked like she was sizing us up and barely spoke to us.  We were seated and waited for a while before drink and food orders were taken.  The atmosphere inside of the restaurant is quite casual in appearance but the other customers were anything but.  Most of the customers were snooty, older women (50 yrs +) who avoided eye contact with us and seemed to be very irritated when the two kids in our group were a little rowdy.  Keep in mind that this was around 1 PM on a weekday so it's not like we were ruining someone's fine, special occasion dinner.

Our waitress was friendly, but in a spaced out, air head sort of way.  She didn't seem surprised or taken aback when we told her that it had been an hour since we placed our order and no food had arrived.  It was after 2 PM before we finally ate lunch and they provide no bread or anything else to snack on.  Most of us actually enjoyed our food--the sweet potato fries were awesome, the salmon burger was tasty though it could stand to have some sauce added, and the quinoa special was delicious.  The chicken pot pie portion size and the french onion soup were disappointing. Pretty much every request that we made (e.g., drink refills, reminders that they forgot to bring someone's food) was met with a blank stare and our waitress moved at a snail's pace.

To top everything off, our waitress had to confirm with those paying with credit cards what they had ordered three times!!  The process of getting the checks and paying for the food seriously took at least 30 minutes and she even made mistakes when swiping our cards.  After leaving the restaurant, one of my friends noticed that her account had been charged 5 times (!!!!).  Seriously?!?  She had to work with the manager over the phone for a couple of days to get everything straight and, surprise surprise, their communication with her was lacking and the 5th charge still hasn't come off.

Given the decent quality of the food, this place has potential in the food arena.  I recommend that they get new management, fire all of the current wait / hosting staff, and start over.

We will definitely not be back!  Two days later we enjoyed a fabulous dinner at ShoeBooties Cafe in Murphy, NC.  They were incredibly welcoming and accommodating.  The food was fantastic!!  Skip Doyle's and head to ShoeBooties.
