I would have certainly given this bar 3 or 4-stars based on previous experiences, but after dealing with an extremely rude bouncer this past week, not only will I not give it 4 stars, but I will NEVER come here again.
I came with 9 friends who each took out over a $100 cash to be prepared. We showed up at about 10:30 PM, after finishing dinner at our house, so it was still quite early in the night. My friends had asked me if they should bring their credit/debit cards, but I told them not to because a) it's a cash only bar and b) the ATM machine has a $10 fee. Why bring your card if you can't use it and might lose it?
We are all young professionals between the ages of 23-34. We all work and live in Manhattan. We even felt a little old to be going there, but since it was a supposed to be a fun weekend of dancing and drinking, Â we figured what better place to dance.
My co-worker from France still only has her French ID (since she lives in NYC, she has not found a need to get a NY driver's license and she has never had an issue in Manhattan using it). Because the bouncers were "confused" about what a French ID is supposed to look like, they asked her for her credit card to validate her ID. She explained that she didn't bring one since it is a cash only bar. They continued to give her a hard time. Finally, since she was staying with me and her English isn't perfect, I decided I should also speak with the bouncer to try and explain the situation. Especially since I've been coming to this bar for 7 years and have never had an issue.
After trying to explain to the bouncer the situation several times, my friend decided to just get in a cab and go home because she didn't want to ruin everyone's night or start any issues. I gave her the number for a cab company in case she couldn't find one on the road, and turned around to head in, as the rest of the 7 people I was with were already inside.
What did I get? The bouncer told me that since I was involved, he now wasn't going to let me in. Even though I had a VALID NY State DRIVER'S LICENSE and I am, of course, WAY ABOVE 21. I asked him the reason for not letting me in and he told me, "I don't have to give you a F****** reason. I don't like you." I explained that my boyfriend and friends were already inside to which he replied sarcastically, "Oh yeah, I'm sure you have a boyfriend. Let's see you call him."
What a nice way to speak to a woman?
Since none of my friends would ever stay somewhere where I was being treated that way, they all came out of the bar (yes all 7 of them, one by one) and we left with close to $1,000 in our pockets that we easily would have spent there. Instead, we went to John Scott's where the drinks are cheaper and better, the crowd is much classier, and the bouncers aren't fat assholes who only keep this job because they are too dense to do anything else.
It took us all of 15 seconds for 9 of us to get in at John Scott's. What a breath of fresh air it was to be treated like a human being!
So dear Drift, after many great nights that I have had at your establishment, the way I was treated last weekend has solidified the fact that I WILL NEVER COME NOR BRING ANYONE THERE AGAIN. I will also make sure to tell everyone I know the same story.
You may want to have a talk with your bouncers about how they treat people at the door, especially women.
(NB: Everyone knows your bar is filled with 18 year olds anyway and I hope to God you get raided one night).
Hands down best bar on a Saturday night if you want to dance, be outside and generally go crazy.  Bring lots and lots of cash with you since it's cash only, their drinks are over-priced  and their ATM's have a $10 fee.  Go before 11PM and there is no cover.  We came here with a bachelorette party and the bartenders and bouncers took care of us, we had a great time!  Funny list of rules when you walk in too..."no jersey shore", "no bedazzled shirts", ect...
