The food was yuk, all over cooked or very dry and tasteless. Not sure how they could not make a hotdog and a BLT sandwich with success, my kids who eat anything would not eat it after one mouthful. Would not recommend at all, we went here after the other great reviews that I am not sure how our experience was so different.
Review Source:This place was fantastic. Â We were out of towners and didn't realize this was a breakfast/brunch restaurant and arrived five minutes before closing. Â We didn't want to be rude and request a table so when we saw the hours on the door we started to walk away when the owner's son came outside to talk to us and invited us in. Â Very welcoming.
Food was fantastic. Â I had the burger special, Vermont Burger, and it was one of the best burgers I've had. Â I had a burger the night before at the Vermont Pub & Brewery and this one was leaps and bounds above the competition. Â My girlfriend had the Texas breakfast sandwich and thoroughly enjoyed it.
After conversing with us they found out we were from out of town and couldn't have been more helpful. Â They suggested places to go and things to do. Â They even brought over a magazine for us to flip through. Â Best customer service we've had in years!
Highly recommend this place. Â I wish we found this place earlier in our trip.
Oh, I had high hopes for this place after reading the other reviews. Â But given the prices here, I'd have to say my hopes have been dashed.
The Eggs Benedict at $8.75 should have reminded me of why this is my favorite breakfast dish. Â It really didn't. Â The eggs and hash ($8.25) were average for your average road-side diner -- but the price would suggest you'd get more. Â The hash didn't taste house-made, which one might expect at that price.
The stack of 2 pancakes was reasonable at 4.95, but the inside of the dough was still flour-y and mushy, yet somehow dry. Â My standard test for pancakes is to take a bite before you drown it in syrup -- it should have a nice flavor of its own and apleasant texture. Â This had niether.
While there, I spotted a friend of mine from the dog park. Â Speaking with her later, she also said she was very disappointed after having heard such great things about it. Â Definitely not worth the 30 minute-plus drive from our side of town.
That said, I really liked our spunky, somewhat-violent (in a good way) server, and there is a wonderfully open, warm community spirit that has all the diners -- complete strangers -- joking and laughing together, all singing happy birthday together for the very embarrased guy in the corner. Â (The girlfriend recruited us all when he went to the bathroom.) Â It gave the place a nice, small-town feel and made you instantly feel like a regular. Â ALmost made the trip and price worth it...almost.
I love this place with all of my heart and soul. I am a big fan of family owned and operated diners and this one is my favorite in Vermont!
The owner is very friendly and the waitresses are hilarious and sweet. The food is perfect diner food with a few unexpected surprises thrown in! My husband loves Vermonter omelet with sausage, apples and cheddar. I usually get the french toast and bacon.
The restaurant is obviously older and well-loved, but very clean. I get here about once a week and it is always my first choice for breakfast!
We went here for breakfast two days in a row. Â Very busy, lots of locals moving through the restaurant which is a good sign. Â The family thought breakfast was great. Â The front room is run by the owner, a very friendly fellow who engages the customers in conversation and ensures that everyone is 100% satisfied. Â As he grew up in town he is also a great tour guide, he was gracious with his time and offered good suggestions on things to do and see while we were in town. Â We have gone to Shelburne for a few years and surprisingly he suggested things we had never even heard of!!
My young son complemented them on the home fries so the owner brought him out to the kitchen and showed him how they make them (the secret is out - they fully bake the Potato first and then put them on the grill with paprika and onions. Â Yum!). Â
I wasn't sure about an omelet with Apples, but the Vermont Omelet, containing fresh eggs, Vermont Cheddar Cheese and Apples was really really good.
If you elect the option, they leave real maple syrup in a large dispenser on the table. Â Â Unlike Cracker Barrel where they give you a thimble, these folks were completely unconcerned with how much of the expensive liquid gold customers are using (it was so good and plentiful that my daughter asked if we could drink it in a cup!).
We don't get out to Vermont more than twice a year but we will definitely be back. Â In short, we found it to be a great choice for a hearty breakfast outside of Burlington VT!
Went here for fathers day. The place was packed
but they did an awesome job moving people in and out. They have some
great specials and menu items. I had pulled pork eggs
benedict. You can tell someone their knows BBQ because
it was great!!!
Our waitress was really funny. She smacked me
upside the head with her order pad and said I was too slow. It was all I'm
good fun. She was very good and adds personality to the place.
This place totally lived up to the good reviews. Excellent breakfast! Doesn't look like much from the outside but once in, it's bigger than you think. The meal was cooked quickly and the owner and wife and son also work there. Everyone was friendly and accommodating and they even came over and chatted a while when they heard we were from Illinois and found their place on Yelp! Coffee was good, eggs cooked right, pancakes were tasty, (real maple syrup available) and the homefries were seasoned and cooked well. Homemade bread is offered and it's great. This is a wonderful place to eat.
Review Source:We Love this place. My buddy and I have been eating here once a week for over a year now. Its an old Motel restaurant located just north of the town of Shelburne on route 7 or "Shelburne Rd". The restaurant looks like a "dive diner" that you wouldn't think of stopping at partly because of the old motel, located directly behind the restaurant. Anyhow, the food is wonderful. The owner is the cook and his wife or son usually is the wait staff. They are always happy to see us, and the food is always delicious. Lately I have been getting Eggs Benedict lately and really like it. I recommend this place if you want great food at a good price. Friendly staff and big smiles. I hope this iconic diner is here for many years.
