It's an experience and nothing more. I can't take this "sport" seriously for multiple reasons. Not to mention that this "sport" has been riddled with numerous problems ranging from animal cruelty to neglect. If you're looking for something to do then check it out, but don't go without knowing that any money spent is money supporting the very people who are mistreating these animals.
It's unique, but it has diminished for a reason.
33 greyhounds died as a result of neglect at this track.

Do you really want to patronize a place that lets the dogs starve to death and be bound around their necks with duct tape to kill them?
Betting money on greyhound racing just furthers the crimes against the dogs.
Disclaimer: This was my first time at a Greyhound Track.
In order to get over a horrible sun burn Lauren E. and I decided to give this place a try. Â I've been to a couple of Horse Tracks before, but I had no idea what to really expect. Â The only thing I knew of Dog Tracks I had learned from The Simpsons.
We showed up to a Saturday Matinée of races and paid the $2 entry fee to get it.  The place is a little run down, but clean.  The people at the counter were INCREDIBLY helpful, letting us know how to place bets (It had been a while).  Because Ms. E. had never been to a track before we went to the information desk and the lady there must have spent a full 15 minutes explaining everything she could about placing bets, how to read a program, and even how she personally decided which dogs to bet on. Â
The lower level is all benches and blacktop with betting counters. Â The upstairs is box-seats, as well as an indoor area with poker tables, a bar, and a restaurant. Â Everything but the poker tables have a view of the race track, but there are enough TV's around that you can see the races at almost any time. Â Getting a drink in the restaurant was a good way to beat the heat and still be able to place bets (there were betting counters everywhere).
We were just placing $2 bets on each race, but having a great time doing so. Â It was a great way to waste 3 hours out of the sun, even if there was no "Santa's Little Helper" for me to place bets on.
