I'm not sure how I ended up here but I did!
Decent Mexican food, great prices and great drinks. It was cheap, I'll give it that much. Quite the crowd around lunch time and I'm not sure where they all came from. We had a party of 12 and the server handled herself great.
They need to improve on the chips/salsa. That was probably the least impressive part of the meal.
Well....the food is just okay. I wouldn't rave about it though. We have dined at many Mexican restaurants over the years, and this one is definitely not up to par with flavor compared to other Mexican restaurants.
The restaurant was busy for a lunch time crowd. Table was a little sticky. Too much clutter on the table. No room for big menus & our plates.
I ordered the Fish Tacos. First bite...a bone! Â called the waiter over, showed him. Â He didn't say anything, he just took my plate off the table.
I wasn't sure if it was a language barrier thing or what....so i told him I would get something else instead.
Sent it back & ordered the Vegetarian Quesadilla......bleh  :(
It was loaded with spinach...wet, soggy & had a kind of sour taste. It had a few mushrooms & onions inside...but I don't know why they put 5lbs of old spinach on it.
Hubby had the Chicken & Beef burritos. Â He was also put off by the lack of flavor.
We were obviously disappointed. We really wanted this to be a fav little mexican place to eat, judging by the style, decor & many many menu options to choose from.
It started off great...with the friendly greeting & atmosphere.....but quickly took a nosedive with the food.
Completely bleh....we stopped on the way home for icecream just to get the sour taste from my mouth.
I guess it's busy because it's kind of out there in the country...and not many restaurant options around there.
We prefer to drive 20 or so minutes further out for better tasting food.
Hands down, the best Mexican Restaurant I've ever been to.
If you're going on a weekend, go early because this place gets crowded quick. Â We like to go on Friday nights and sit at the bar, but if we don't get there before 6pm, we're lucky to find seats. Â We've never had a really long wait though; it's a large restaurant so they have a pretty quick turnover. Â It's a bit nicer than most Mexican restaurants and they have an outside patio seating area which is a plus.
The servers are great and recognize me and my wife because we've always brought our own hot sauce (we're chili-heads and most restaurants don't have anything spicy enough for us.) Â As soon as we walk in the door, they start pouring our drinks because we order the same thing every time: Â A large Dos Equis and a medium margarita. Â The drinks are very cheap and VERY good. Â I normally can't stand margaritas at restaurants because they use that neon green sugar mix. Â I've been spoiled because I always make them fresh at home. Â But the margarita's at El Poblano's give my fresh 'ritas a run for their money.
The food is a couple steps up from your typical cookie-cutter Mexican restaurant. Â I've never ordered anything there I didn't like. Â I usually order one or two items off of the side menu and it's plenty of food; fried burritos and chicken poblanos are my favorites. Â My wife orders Carnitas (extra crispy) and we always have plenty of leftovers.
Make sure to save room for flan. Â It's absolutely incredible! Â I'm not a dessert person... I very rarely eat sweets, but my mouth is watering just thinking about that flan right now!
Best Mexican you can get in the Columbia area, also good beer selection and some really big Margarita's. This place has become a cornerstone to most locals, and seems to be the place we all gather on Friday nights. If you are in the area come early if you don't like waiting, come late if you like to just hang out and have a good time.
