Don't eat to many of the great chips or you'll be to full to finish your meal!

El Torero is the place to come in Valley Springs if you want decent Mexican food. Nice family & friendly service each time we've been. I like to come here with friends & drink in the bar. We have had lots of great meals & the one time mine was not hot, Gordo got me a new entree no questions asked. Also, if you want a great salad, order the Jessica salad which you will not find on any menu. Named after one of my friends who worked here a lifetime ago! Killer ranch dressing & fajita style meat & veggies on the salad. Get them to put a couple grilled jalapenos on there if you're into spicy. Yum! Also, good chicken enchiladas & chile rellenos, too!

    Good, quick service.

I ordered the carnitas tacos and they were quite bland without any salsa, onions or cilantro.

The rice, beans, chips and salsa were good. I'd go back but would definitely try something different.

    Best mexican fair around!!!

Not sure what others were talking about, recycled chips, cleanliness, etc., I have never had a problem with any of their food or facilities.

Gordo, the owner, is a friend and always accommadates our large parties and requests.

The food is supreme and priced fairly for the items ordered. We usually eat until we are sick and still have take home boxes.

The margaritas are fantastic and LARGE!!!

This restaurant is actually listed on Yelp twice, so you may have seen this before..

The restaurant itself is about a 7 on 1-10 scale in cleanliness, pretty average for a non-chain mexican food restaurant.

The staff is a 10 for being friendly and very attentive.

Before I talk about the food, I have to first inform you that I am a vegetarian (thanks to high cholesterol problems) and even when I sneak a bit of meat here and there, I absolutely loathe pork (a slight allergy to it also)!

Well, no matter what I tried here, always broke out in rash. Once, when finally quizzing a waitress about ingredients in their beans, rice, salsa, etc., found out they they put lard in absolutely EVERYTHING! For those who may not know, lard is pig fat. No wonder their food gave me problems.

Their tortilla chips are not cooked in lard (they come pre-packaged), but they "recycle" their chips from the tables. In other words, if you do not eat all the complimentary chips in your basket, they will be mixed into another basket and put on the table of another guest. Yes, I'm dead serious. If you don't believe me: Watch for yourself what happens when they clean off a table after the guests have left and the basket is still full of chips.

Anyway, since their beans, rice, tortillas, etc. contains lard, I can't eat there. In this day and age, why would anyone still cook with lard? Even restaurants in Mexico stopped using lard for goodness sake! If you are Jewish, Muslim, 7th Day Adventist, allergic, obese, 4H pig farmer, etc., beware. Pig fat hidden within.......

My husband and I love this restaurant.  It is a little more expensive than  the other Mexican Restaurant in Valley Springs, and a little further for us to drive, but they have a huge variety of food, and it is really good.  It is probably my favorite restaurant in Valley Springs at this time.  They used to have a really good dessert, which is rare for a Mexican restaurant (it was a special at one time, years ago), but they don't have it anymore.  They need to get it back!

Have been here a couple times. Food is very good, service is ok, I don't think anyone speaks english, they just smile and nod lol. Hey that's a plus though.

Four stars because this is basically the only place with edible food around town.

The shrimp plates are good, the margaritas are nice, and the chips the usual freebies.

It's just your typical Tex-Mex, but what makes it a four star restaurant is the fact that it is in the middle of absolutely nowhere.
