Ellenville Sushi

Also known as Sook House...

I love sushi and wanted nothing more than to like and support a local place trying to make it in Ellenville. But we had one of the most disappointing, and actually rather awful, sushi experiences ever at this place. The fish did not seem fresh, the rolls were horribly built and drowning in gooey sauce better suited to a Big Mac. Even the miso soup was nasty. There literally was no saki selection and their "cold" saki was warm, kept somewhere near a heat source and likely served from a bottle that had been opened a long time before. I am an omnivore with an iron stomach but had no interest in finishing most of what we ordered. Which turned out was a good thing since I woke the next day sick to my stomach. The only thing we had that night that was redeeming was a hot Korean dish, which was actually good and seemed to be authentic home style cooking, which we love. This is my first Yelp review, and I hate that it's trashing a local place, but I wish I had been warned.

If you're on 209 coming from the north it's a left turn, coming from the south it's a right turn.  It's right across the street from H&R Block, not even 1/2 a block away from 209.  I've been to a lot of sushi places, would drive to the city and/or New Paltz to get sushi but no more.  This place is incredible, very fresh sushi, the service is great too.  Looks like a hole in the wall but it's clean and owner on premises.  Outstanding food.
