Very friendly environment with a perfect location to explore all the fun canyons in Escalante. The campsites are less than ideal because the tents don't stake down too well in the designated sand boxes and are prone to blowing over.
The front desk staff were knowledgeable and helpful.
This place is awesome. Â They have a great selection of outdoor gear, particularly for being out in the boonies. Â The people that work here are five star plus. Â They really take the time to answer your questions, give you pointers to great hikes, and provide tips for preparation. Â If they don't know the answers to your questions, they will find somebody else in town who does! Â
TIP: Â Don't be put off by the grumpy guy on the phone if you happen to reach him. Â He is actually really cool and was extremely helpful and enjoyable to work with when we met him in person. Â I think he just doesn't like talking on the phone. Â :-)
The café is also quite good.  I strongly recommend the quiche for breakfast, accompanied by your choice of excellent espresso drink.  We had the trout salad for lunch, which absolutely rocked.  Fresh greens, goat cheese, smoked trout and capers in the middle of the desert?  It doesn't get much better!
