The hostesses were kind of brats but, whatever. The burger was SO good. As was the ranch dressing. Nice beer selection. I will be checking out the Eureka! at home in San Diego.

Their truffle fries is a MUST TRY. Everything else was okay. I got the Eureka burger, no onions add cheese and avocado. It just tasted like a burger. I also go the Turkey Chili Soup. It was pretty good but too much beans! :(

Their beer selection is not like other places. It does not include that many common beers. I had the Jamaican Red (?), which I didn't like that much. I should've gotten something else...like the Hazelnut Brown (or something like that).

When SLO's Eureka first arrived it started off strong, slowly it has been has been making its way downhill. For starters, their portion sizes have dramatically reduced. I consistently order my burger medium and, consistently, it has been prepared anywhere from rare to well done; you never know what you're going to get. Some of the menu items are just bad or boring combinations, but in general it's a nice selection of fresh ingredients. The staff, however, is great. People are enthusiastic and helpful, and they will respectfully replace anything that wasn't to your liking. Their dessert items need some work.

I thought the Tortilla Burger was incredible, but thought my husband's crab sliders were "meh". He thought his was amazing and mine was "meh", so I guess that evens out to a decent meal. He also ordered a 4-beer sampler and they were out of one of his choices, so our waitress decided to switch it without asking, which I would have probably found annoying, except that he loved what she chose, so props to her! Not sure if something was going on with the drinking water, but I thought it tasted foul, and I am not picky about my water. We liked the decor and had fun sitting in the balcony where we could watch the bar tenders from above.

The food never disappoints I was over the moon with my Napa Burger. I am disappointed with the appetizer Check-in deal. You shouldn't try to trick people, there are so many restriction on the so-called free appetizer. First its only from Sunday through Thursday. Second its not just a free appetizer its buy one get one. Finally its from 9 till closing. The food is great however the advertising sucks.

Cool new spot in SLO I recommend this joynt for a younger crowd its loud n hectic at times ~ but they do serve a good burger n beer~ service is OK but what do you expect from a bunch of Cal poly students. Anyways place is nicely decorated n priced correctly for the area.

Good decor, good service, reasonable prices, burger was good, good selects of beer. Everything was good but nothing was great that's the reason for 4 stars not 5.

The fig marmalade burger and grilled chicken sandwich were really tasty.  They have a nice selection of healthy salads also.  Great beer and cocktail choices as well.

Fabulouoso! Happy, purring tastebuds! (Can tastebuds purr?)
Had to get it again, the Jalapeno egg burger with that slightly sweet crispy maple-y bacon combined with the tangy jalapeno heat and smoky burger meat... TO DIE FOR. Fresh side green salad with blue cheese/cranberries and balsamic - perfect.

Impulse decision: Homemade butterscotch rum pudding with salted caramel and whipped cream. Absolutely out of this world! Butterscotch + RUM? Are you kidding? Then salted caramel on top of that? Gettouttahere! Something you'll want to share... but then again... ;-)

Their menu has gotten more interesting and creative since I was here last, about a year ago. Eureka is people who actually CRAFTS their offerings. Every item is conceived and sourced and made with real pride and attention to detail.

This is how you do it.
Thank you, Eureka. For exceeding my expectations again.

If I could give this place 3.5 stars I would, but I'll bump it up to 4 because I'm a sucker for good burgers. I ordered their cobb salad but had a bit of their original burger. Their salad was bland and the chicken had the worst texture ever. It felt like I was eating plastic squares on some of the bites.

Now getting to the burgers... in two words, mouthwatering deliciousness. Their regular fries were good, nothing special, but complemented the burger well. Overall the restaurant is well decorated, nice ambiance, and we went when school was out, so we were seated immediately and had great service. I would stick to the burgers there and avoid their chicken.

This burger place is as good as it gets as for gourmet. I wish I was able to go more often. When I do i get the whiskey sampler, but seeing those delicious, juicy burgers going to other customers is so tantalizing I'm almost tempted to empty my bank account.

    Whiskey is pricey.
    The whole place is.

    Worth it?

    I think so, on occasion.

This place is always packed so be prepared to wait for a table! Great place to catch a game or grab a nice cold drink. Theres awesome selection of craft beer, it reminded me of yard house. The focus is squarely on beer and burgers. If you dont like either youre gonna have a bad time.
We tried the corn dog appetizers which were little balls of corn dogs. They were good but nothing unique. The burgers are the real star, we tried the fig burger with fig marmalade and goat cheese. Excellent burger, I like that the size is not too big, just the right amount of good quality beef. The fries were good too. Another burger we tried was the bacon, egg burger. I liked the idea of this burger, but it was a little messy to eat. All in all, a cool place to check out in downtown SLO!

Great burgers! Great appetizers! Great servers great bartenders great atmosphere and great for people watching. Kaytlin and Kacey always take such good care of me. Great happy hour appetizers and amazing burgers. Here at least once every two weeks. I am a lil weary when trying out chains but they definitely do it right. A lot of thought went into this menu and I am happy to see this place is doing great.

Best burger in town.  The burgers here are more expensive than a typical diner or fast food place;however, you definitely get what you pay.

My favorite burger is the jalapeno egg.  It is the perfect balance of savory, sweet and spicy.  Delicious.  You really can't go wrong with any of the burgers and what's great is that there is something for everyone.  Bacon lovers, blue cheese, bison etc.

This is also one of the few places anywhere that has Firestone Double Jack on tap.  In addition, there are several other microbrews on tap, as well as weekly rotating handles.

    Eureka is awesome.

For fine dining, 3 stars; for a bar/beer place that serves excellent food, 4 stars. I had the Classic Eureka Burger (with Bacon) and fries. It was excellent--hot, juicy, cooked as ordered, flavorful, and fresh. My wife had the veggie burger and thought it was also excellent. I had two beers--one poured using nitrogen (which is supposed to give the beer a smoother pour) and one using carbon dioxide. The nitrogen pour wasn't to my taste, even though it's a beer I like (Firestone DBA)--the beer was smoother, with a Guinness-like head and less carbonation (nitrogenation?). The second beer (called Doggie Style) was delicious--fresh, crisp, and amply carbonated.

The restaurant is pretty noisy, but the second floor was a bit quieter, and in any case the noise is more like happening-hubbub than annoying-clatter. The service was assiduous, and the bill reasonable though not cheap. We will definitely go again.

Have eaten here several times since my last review and decided that it is definitely a bar that serves pretty good food rather than the other way round.  Their fries remain exemplary, although a head-to-head taste test with Pluto's across the street is called for- they are no longer so clearly head and shoulders better than everyone else's as to render comparison superfluous.

I've also solved the mystery of their strangely bland burgers- they don't season the the patties enough, or at all.  So even their most heavily laden, delicious sounding burger suffers from a flavor deficit at its very heart.

I have found several fine menu options outside the range of their purported specialty- they periodically have a Baja Taco special that is quite good, and the pulled pork sandwich is likewise well seasoned & enjoyable.

And having finally dined it with a full house I must note that the noise level is unacceptable for a restaurant, although to be expected of a bar.  Another weight on the 'drinking establishment' side of the scale.

delicious corn dog lollipops, but a very sad let down for the burgers. My boyfriend and I tried the hawaiian and the jalapeno, and the flavors we were most excited about tasting (jalapeno pineapple relish) were masked by the grease and sogginess of the burgers. The bottom bread was pretty much destroyed by the grease, and the bacon was so crispy that it made eating uncomfortable. Such a let down, in what looked like would be a new favorite place!

I think I would give this place 3.5 stars if I could.

The place is more of an upscale burger restaurant. They have TVs playing the game of the night. They have a great beer selection and the food is quite amazing. If I were to pick a gourmet burger to eat in the area, Eureka would be my choice.

I tried out the Fig Marmalade Burger, which was delicious! I was told it used to be better as they might've changed their recipe for this burger. Not too sure on this one. I thought it was still good. For the side, I stuck with the normal fries, which are lightly seasoned. My friend paid the a little extra to try the Sweet Honey Cinnamon Potato Fries, which are totally worth it!

Give the place a shot! I wouldn't mind coming back again.

Amazing. I don't eat burgers but I decided to give this place a try, I tried the Cowboy burger. It was all really good, the place was nice and clean and the waitress was really nice . I wish I didn't live 3 hours away ,and wish there was a Eureka burger in the San Jose area.

I was here yesterday, as I was in SLO for a business meeting. Trendy, nice environment and crowded (good sign).

I ordered a jalapeno & egg burger and it was pretty good, but the egg yolk was runny. :(

    A bit pricey, though.

My husband and I decided to take a road trip down to SLO for the weekend, right after my week of a veggie-only detox, so I was pretty excited to have meat again. While perusing Yelp for a late lunch/early dinner we found Eureka and decided to check it out.

The Food: I rarely eat beef but on occasion I'll go full force so I got the Fig Marmalade burger. I had a similar burger at a similar concept restaurant in Houston so I was excited to try Eureka's version. It was awesome. Fig + goat cheese + bacon + beef is a fantastic combo. Since I can't have gluten my burger came on a bed of arugula, which I honestly don't like. Not a fan of peppery greens that taste like they should be left for landscaping. But it was mixed with a nice salad dressing so I overlooked that. The burger made up for it anyway. The fig marmalade was in a little cup on the side so I almost forgot to add it to the rest of my meal...don't do that...slather it on asap.

I really wanted the sweet potato fries (my achilles heel) but they are fried in the same oil as the truffle fries, so while gluten is not added, the fries are contaminated, unfortunately. Sadface.

I remember the iced tea being unusually good as well. Always a bonus when something standard is better than you expected.

Atmosphere: We were seated upstairs on the balcony overlooking the rest of the restaurant. There was a local band playing and the poor guys didn't have microphones so they were trying to sing/yell their songs above the noisy crowd. It just didn't work acoustically for anyone involved. If you're going to hire a band, let the poor people have microphones and let them and the crowd have a break from the music here and there, otherwise, it doesn't work. My husband and I tried to have a conversation but it was just too loud so we stuffed our faces instead. Don't let that deter you because the food is really good (he got the Cowboy Burger and loved it), it's just not a hang out and talk kind of place, at least not on a late Saturday afternoon/evening.

Took my girlfriend here just for a good dinner. Really good food, which is why I'm giving it four stars. The issue wasn't with service, because they were really friendly. The issue I had was with the atmosphere. This place is a loud avant garde sports bar.

    What I liked:

Ordered the truffle fries. They came out cold, we told the waitress, and they gave us a new order of truffle fries and took it off the bill. (Great service, thank you!)

Great burger selection (Hawaiian burger anyone??)

    Awesome food

Eureka is one of the few burger places I will go. Admittedly, the first time I went I ordered the Fig Marmalade burger and loved it. I've tried other burgers since then but they just don't seem as amazing as the fig burger. They make great onion rings too!

The highlight of visiting Eureka for me though is the great service. I've never had bad service here and in downtown SLO, good service can sometimes be hard to find.

I know it's going to be a good afternoon with a fig burger and a Hangar 24 orange beer.

My daughter and I came here for the first time and everything was delish! We had the nachos, kale salad, and chicken sandwich. Everything tasted so fresh. The staff is very friendly and helpful.. I really felt welcomed. Our waitress was Becca, and she rocked! We loved how professional, sweet and attentive she was............we will definitely be going back, because we are moving to SLO!!!!! YAY!

Came here because firestone was already closed for the night and the sister recommended this place, and it did not disappoint! Thanks to yelp we also got a free appetizer, and on top of that it was happy hour so our other appetizer was discounted as well! The truffle fries almost tasted like a heart attack but it was super yum, i loved the nachos, and the cowboy burgers was soo good. I was very pleased with my entire meal!

My friends and I go here for an "upscale casual" experience. Meaning we want burgers, booze and fries..... but nice ones. I love getting the window seating with the windows propped open. It's a good area to people watch since it's downtown.
I've never been disappointed with the burgers. Good quality meat and toppings. Of course this comes at a premium. If that annoys you then go to In N Out.
Staff is friendly and always knowledgeable about the menu.

When we saw that Eureka was located in SLO, which was where we were going on a little weekend getaway - we had to try it. We were big fans of their location in Claremont, CA and they make a mean Old Fashioned. Well, I mean...it's actually very nice. By mean, I meant real nice.

I ordered my favorite: the Caprese Burger with sweet potato fries. GF got the Cowboy with regular fries. Their regular fries have never been my favorite. They always taste overcooked/stale and rarely come out warm. This time, unfortunately, was no exception. They were cold and stale. Maybe they should consider a new recipe?

Everything else was GREAT. The service was friendly and hospitable too, as always. Eureka remains one of my favorite burger joints in California!

Does anyone really want to read yet ANOTHER great review about Eureka!

    Sorry, but here it is!

The service was outstanding---how do I know this--because we were really pains in the ass to Taylor (our waitress) who smiled at each and every one of our silly requests and demands.  What a doll!

The food:  Crab cakes, onion rings, shoestring fries, burgers, Lemon Drop(s), beer---was all outstandingly delicious!  My husband had the burger and he said it was savory;  he relished every single morsel!  How do I know?  Because I looked over at him when taking the first bite then took my eyes off of him for a second and the next thing I knew--the entire thing was gone (and it was huge!!).

Dessert:  We both enjoy a sweet after dinner, and I would say that the only improvement, and I use the term lightly, that Eureka! could make is to broaden their dessert menu a bit.  As I recall there was a chocolate mousse and a butterscotch something in the offerings, but I sure would have liked to have had something lighter at this point in the evening; a sorbet possibly?

Kudos to Eureka!  We look forward to returning.  I saw at least three other menu items that I just have to sample before leaving this planet!

P.S. - Add the sorbet and I'll bump it up to 5 stars next time.  :wink:wink:

Love the ambiance of this place! Multiple tvs for when a good game is on as well.

Got the Napa burger because I love pesto aioli mmm... The fries were good too! My roommate rants about how good the Fig Marmalade burger is so that will be my next burger to try!

Did the beer sampler with a couple friends. Ended up liking the Pear Cider the most!

I'm giving 2 stars as an average of the 2 times I've been to this location of the chain--3 stars for the first time and 1 for the second.  The first time I had a 4 star burger and 2 star service.  The second time service was so bad that I never even got around to the burger.

Went in at happy hour, there were some people there but not a crowd.  We sat there  at the bar for 5 minutes (I'm being generous--I didn't time it but I believe it was longer than that) with no acknowledgement from any of the 3 bartenders, despite several empty seats at the bar. After waiting as long as possible, my wife excused herself and went to the restroom.  I was able to flag down one of the bartenders and attempted to order our drinks--and was told we would have to wait until my wife got back from the restroom to order her drink.  I'm 40 and my wife is in the same ballpark, AND SHE HAD BEEN SITTING THERE FOR 5 MINUTES, plenty of time to check her ID if they needed to.  We left as soon as she got back.

Ridiculous interpretation of alcohol policy + very poor service == I'm not going back. It's a shame because the burgers are solid--not great but solid.

I love the atmosphere of this place! It's such a nice casual place to just chill and eat with your friends. The lighting is kind of dark in the place which gives it this trendy sort of feel and there are plenty of TVs to watch sports. The servers are all super friendly and everyone in there is just having a good time!

This is a GOURMET burger place, so their burgers are pricier but you're getting better quality meat and ingredients in exchange. I love going here during their HAPPY HOUR because you get appetizers for cheaper and drinks! They also have STEAL THE GLASS every wednesday and you can try the special beer and keep the glass! super fun :)

    FAVES:

    Appetizers

    1. Eureka Truffle Fries: A huge plate of fries. This is shareable, unless you're super hungry. It's about 8 dollars and you're getting a heaping of fries covered in cheese and that truffle oil! It's salty and deliciously addicting. I like how they use the shoestring fries so they stay nice and crispy longer.

    2. Osso Busco Riblets: I only get this during their happy hour because it's worth getting. for the price of 5 dollars! The seasoning for the riblets is delicious. It has a nice spicy kick to it, but it's not overpowering. The pork is tender and just melts in your mouth.

    Burgers

    1. Jalapeno Egg Burger: I LOVE BURGERS WITH EGGS. I love how the yolk runs through the burger when you take a bite. The burger is pretty big! THEIR BACON IS THE BEST. It's so nice and thick and crispy!!! so good. The spicy chipotle sauce and the jalapenos really gives the burger the flavor I love. I get this burger medium well and it comes out perfect :)

    2. Cowboy Burger: Beer BBQ sauce + CRISPY DELICIOUS BACON + Onion Rings in a burger equals awesomeness. I really like this burger because their bbq sauce is delicious and it tastes great with the onion rings in the burger. The burger has a nice savory and sweet taste to it.

I definitely will come back to try more and more of their burgers :)

I've been here 3 times now, and their burgers are very delicious. I've ordered the lamb one (not on the menu anymore-sigh), the catalina bison, and the latest: the fig marmalade. I had a bite of a friend's napa burger, which was so yummy! I love the lightly toasted buns, the sponginess of the bun as I squash it into my small mouth, the crunch of fresh vegetables, the juiciness of the patty all make for a wonderful eating experience. The waiters are decently attentive. I think upstairs seating is more quiet, but it's still loud overall. Those benches (for larger groups) are not comfortable if sitting there for an hour or more.

If I remember correctly, you can make a reservation and they'll text you when it's ready. Just make sure not to wander too far!

Great place for burgers and fries. I love the quirky atmosphere of this place. The service is always friendly and the desserts are sinfully decadent. I would recommend both the brownie cake dessert and the toffee rum pudding!

Maui Wowi Bruger = the name says it all. WOWI.

The burger selection is pretty amazing here.

Confession: I come here for the fries. I could come and just eat a basket of fries and still give this place 4 stars.

That confession alone should convince you to go.

My husband and I came here for lunch. He ordered the bruscetta appetizer and it was ok. It's made with goat cheese and the balsamic vinegar and basil were a little heavy for my taste - I see them more as garnishes but they were overloading the dish.

I had the only Belgian on the menu Pranqster, a California native. It was ok - tasted a lot like Hoegaarden. The beer selection wasn't all that impressive. I was looking for some more oscure local beers and they didn't deliver. However, they did offer a few local beers, I guess I was just expecting more of a variety.

The burgers we had were really good though. I decided to stick with burgers since that seems to be their specialty, although the other sandwiches sounded really yummy too. I had the naked (no bread) Napa burger. It was really good but not cooked medium well like I had hoped. I loved how you can get it "naked" - no bread but served on a bed of arugula with lemon drizzle. So delicious. My husband had the original burger and he finished the whole thing. The fries are awesome - probably my favorite part.

Service was good and everyone was friendly. I can see coming back for a drink after hitting some other bars in the area. It seems like a cool place to hang out but the food left a little to be desired.

This menu has tons of delicious-sounding options, and since I was on vacation, I was tempted to splurge on something like truffle fries, onion rings, lollipop corndogs, macaroni and cheese with fried sage, a bison burger, or a pulled pork sandwich.  Or all of the above.  But I managed to eat a three-course meal comprised entirely of seafood, which is always a big draw when I am on the coasts.

Fried calamari was standard and boring, but my shrimp po boy was better.  They top it with their Pacific slaw and show a restrained hand with the sauce, both aspects appreciated by me.  By far the best thing that we ate were the fish tacos.  Both my wife and I raved over them and each wished that we had ordered the full-meal version.  Seriously, do not miss the fish tacos.

Fair warning about the side salad:  It comes with dried cranberries!

Also, I wasn't that impressed with the beer selection.  In the end, I drank a Scrimshaw and a Pranqster, two of my West Coast favorites, but I didn't find anything more obscurely local that I wanted to try.  There were several options but most were hop-heavy and none struck my fancy; just a matter of personal taste.

There were a couple of service issues which were essentially mutual misunderstandings and noone's fault, which the staff addressed graciously.  Atmosphere-wise, this place is a standard sports bar and grill with a thin veneer of modern brewpub.  Downtown San Luis Obispo has a perplexing over-representation in the bar-and-grill category, and Eureka is the most visually appealing and has the most interesting-looking menu, which is why we ended up there.

    3.5 stars.

Every single person that I have talked to has told me the same thing: The food and beers are great. The look of the atmosphere is nice, but this restaurant is so freakin loud that you can not hear yourself think; let alone what your friends and colleagues are saying. :(

I'm likely in the minority for this, but the noise level inside Eureka is so bad that I've unfortunately stopped going there. Yes, agreed that it's fun to be in the cool happening place, but it's much more fun for me personally to have an intimate conversation with my friends without struggling to hear every word.
