This is one of my favorite Thai places in the valley. I love myself some pad thai and this place hands down has the best! It's kind of in an weird spot on the corner of Fallbrook and Ventura but I will brave the ackward intersection and not so desirable parking to get to this place. Family owned and always very friendly. There take out business is insane. I've sat in the empty restuarant for dinner and seen at least 12 people come to pick up! I would highly suggest for anyone to give it a try. I don't think you'll be disappointed.
Review Source:Very disappointed the last time I ate here with my friend. Â First when I came in, I asked the waiter to seat me next to the window, rather than in back of the man with his small child in the booth. Â He told me that section was not open. Â Then a large group of people came in, and just seated themselves across the room. Â They were related to the lady who works there.
When I asked about one of the meat substitutes, the waiter had to ask someone else to explain it to me, and her English was only marginally better than his had been. Â The food was ok, but I think we will pass the next time.
I like it! I was a bit disappointed with the fact that when I ordered my food to go, they told me my food would be ready in 15 min and I got there 30 min later and it STILL wasn't ready. But other than that, I was very impressed with the food. I had the Tom Ka Gai soup which was just the perfect combination of sweet and spice. The cilantro flavor is very strong so if you don't like cilantro, I wouldn't recommend this. But I LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE cilantro, so I LOVED the soup. I ordered the pad see ew and it was just perfect! The portions are more than generous too! I couldn't even finish half of each and I was stuffed! All in all, I'll definitely be back for more!
Review Source:This place is pretty damn good! Never had a bad thing yet. Their Tom Kha Gai soup is off the hook!! So delicious! Pad thai and chicken curry friend rice is also good! Me and boyfriend have been here many times and for take out and it's always been great! Their service is also very good and quick! Very quiet and relaxing atmosphere which is nice. The only Thai place i go to in this area!
Review Source:this restaurant "sucks" big time. they are full of shit and are liars. i ordered crab wantons, a salad, and chicken satay and the peanut dressing was gross so i threw the salad away, the chicken was cold and threw that out, and the wantons were nasty after 2 of them i threw them out. i contacted corporate and they got back t me and said they tried to call me last night and did not, and then they emailed me a bit ago to say they could not do anything for me as i paid with a groupon and i paid $30 cash. they are a horrible establishment who does not care about their customers and i spent $30 for food that went into the trash. i then let grub hub know and the establishment came back and said they could not do anything as i paid cash. yes you fricken can you can give me my money back or free food totalling the $30. such poor customer service and unprofessional.
Review Source:The chicken satay was incredibly dry; the people I went with had been to Exotic Thai before and said that this was not the norm.
Horrible muzak playing over the airwaves. Not normally something I notice or comment on, but it was so bad that I do need to mention it! heheheh
I liked the pad thai; note that I really like it heavy on the tamarind side. The massaman curry was 'meh'.
Wanted thai food tonight and chose to not order from here but try another one (Green Basil Thai). As the rating says, I've experienced better. Don't recommend, try somewhere else if you are dying for Thai food.
Love this place - there is better Thai in the area (White Elephant is king), but for the price and consistency this place is great. I suggest the green curry mainly for new comers.
Other favorites:
1. The coconut  soup is a flavor sensation in your mouth! Try it with a bite of rice on your spoon!
2. The Shrimp and Mint salad (forgot the name) is awesome and super healthy!
3. What I get most of the time I come here: Tofu Soup and Sizzling Chicken (grilled chicken on a plate of fresh spinach drizzled with peanut sauce).
Ask for the PURPLE RICE, it is naturally buttery, it is super healthy like brown rice and it adds aromatics to your meal.
Exotic Thai is part of a small chain of Thai restaurants. The locations that I have visited have been clean, attractive and friendly, and this location is no exception. Although the menus are nearly identical, this location serves Yum Thai Sausage, a dish I discovered and loved when I was in Thailand.
Review Source:This was some Thai-riffic food (I can't believe I just wrote that). Overall the interior of this restaurant seems a bit small / lacking, however the food makes up for it. The pad thai was very spicy, which was exactly how I requested it. The flavors were good, however the only thing I noticed was they didn't provide sprouts or a lime with the meal. Overall the service was good, and when I need to chug water constantly because my dish is so spicy, they did it right.
Review Source:If you know nothing about Thai food, then this is your place!
I think I'm one of the only Asians that they know of that turned away the rice. If you're on the Paleo diet like I was, then you'll find it nearly impossible to find something other than salads to eat. And even some of the salads have sugars added. I've had better Thai experiences under the Paleo regimen and without restrictions. It doesn't seem rich in spices as one would expect from Thai food. It seems watered down by the clientele that they serve.
Meh. I'm not feeling this location. Now I come to thai places expecting to leave mouth burnt, teary-eyed. I've been to different exotic thai locations multiple times and I have to say this is certainly my least favorite. My fam and I ordered tom yum, pad kee mao, pad thai, seafood platter, and thai ground chicken. We asked for THAI spicy emphasizing that we wanted to be sweating at the end of the meal. Everything came out mild and they just threw a few extra red pepper flakes instead of using chile peppers. When we complained after the two noodle dishes, the waiter said he would request our thai ground chicken to be extra spicy. Alas, a few more red pepper flakes were thrown in and i left the restaurant without a drop of sweat on my poor forehead. Also, the chicken and the pad kee mao were both extremely subpar and lacked seasoning. The seafood in the platter was clearly frozen and chewy.
Last but not least, they didn't have the mango with sticky rice because it was out of season :( Now I know seasons come and go and exotic thai can't do anything about it but it was just the straw that broke the camels back for me.
came to this place yesterday for dinner. Â the service was good, but the food was only okay for me. Â i had the tom yum goong to start off and the pad thai for the entree. Â i liked the soup a lot! Â i loved the sourness and that there was a decent amount of shrimp in it. Â but when it came down to my entree, i was not a fan of the pad thai. Â it was too sour and too sweet for my taste. Â i felt like it didn't have much spice to it and lacking bean sprouts! Â i found it odd that none of my dishes yesterday felt like it had any spice in it at all, especially since this is a thai restaurant!
the reason why i'm giving them 3 stars is that the fiance actually liked their garlic chicken. Â for him to say that he liked thai food and that it was worth it is a big deal since he tends to dislike thai food and thinks that most thai places have small meat portions.
also had the fried banana with coconut ice cream yesterday. Â it was good, but not great, which is again the reasoning behind my 3 star rating.
Bar none, the best Thai in all of the Conejo area. Skip the other places and drive direct to this location, however be careful you are calling the correct location as there seems to have been a split off from the other Exotic locations. This is family run and totally fresh - its on par with Thai Town in Hollywood which is totally authentic, fresh and flavorful. Great prices and great location even of ordering out.
Review Source:I've never sat down to a meal at this restaurant but I've frequented their take-out many times. I'm a fan!
Staff is always courteous and their dishes never disappoint.
My favorite meal is currently the Goye See Mee dish, which consists of crispy noodles, baby corn, bamboo shoots, carrots, a tasty broth and I substitute tofu for meat.
As a matter of fact, I think I'll have that for lunch today... Â :)
My friends and I found this little gem on the way back from the beach, and I don't think Pad See Ew ever tasted better. As busy as they were, we were greeted with a smile, and quickly shown a table. I had come with three other friends of very disconcerting tastes, so there's usually one person not completely happy with the decision. Every plate we ordered, from the curry to the noodles, to the recommended spicy salmon was top notch.
Service was quick without being sloppy, food was served in a timely manner without being over-sauced, smiles were doled out like they meant it. Everyone left satisfied, and we all agreed to come back next time we were in the area. That never happens.
The only issue I take with this place is that it's not located closer to my house. How dare they.
I was visiting friends and family in the area, and we were all set to go out to dinner. Not having been back in SoCal for a while, I left my fate in the hands of my friends to decide where to go. "Are you in the mood for awesome Thai food?" they asked. When am I not?
Now, born into a Thai household, I've rarely tasted restaurant fare that has compared to my mother's. Naturally, I remain skeptical whenever anyone announces that they know a Thai restaurant that is "awesome." I had to see this for myself.
Upon entering, I first noticed the beautifully done decor that lent the place an inviting air--traditional Thai aesthetics with an odd but intriguing modern flavor. So far, so good. The waitstaff was quick to seat us, and attentive as they took our orders for drinks and appetizers--always a plus.
As a gauge to measure how well a place replicates authentic Thai cuisine, I always reach for my two staples--satay and rad na. I noted my fellow diners--now regulars of this establishment--swore by one of the specials: the spicy salmon. Of course, I would be trying some of that as well.
What's the verdict? Well, no one can beat a mother's spatula, but this was as close as they get! The pork satay was not only tender, but perfectly seasoned. The accompanying ahjad (cucumber salad) was about as true-to-home as I've had, and the peanut sauce was an excellent way to complete the taste. They hit the trifecta!
The rad na was rich and flavorful: the beef was moist and the vegetables, crisp. I can't say how many times I've gone to a Thai food restaurant with dried-out meat in a sea of sauce and wilted greens.
And what of the salmon? I didn't know what to expect, never having anything like it at home--more modern than traditional, I suspect. That being said, I think I enjoyed it more than anything else we ordered! The salmon was fresh and flaky, and the vegetables added so much flavor to the fish. I also loved that it was served on fresh spinach; the texture of the dish was amazing.
Having returned home since, I'm sad to say I can't try any other menu items for a while. The next time I'm seeing my friends, however, I am demanding we make a return visit. I want to see what other hidden gems are about. :)
