The food was great had the sweet and tangy chicken!! it was incredible. the fried pickles are good as well.. the drinks are also really good. only complant is that it took like 10 mins for us to get our drinks each time. the waitress was very slow
I'll be honest, I've never had a drink here during peak times.
When I have been here, I've gotten excellent service.
The bartenders have known when to leave me to drink in peace and when to make sure I had another. A truly fine art I feel lost in some bars.
The prices are reasonable, the on tap options are better than I have come to expect out of Abilene, and the drinks have been mixed well most times.
The worst service I've recieved was from an obviously new bartender/waitress who didn't know what a perfect bombay sapphire martini was, and when she looked it up and made it for me came back with flakes of ice littering the glass. She was still however appropriately attentive, and will hopefully grow as a bartender. Making a fine drink is a skill that takes time and practice.
Honestly, I thought this place was pretty impressive for Abilene. It opened after I moved away, and my friends took me while I was in town for the holidays.
First impressions:
- Awesome space! The old McLemore Bass building is a gem of downtown Abilene and you really can't find bar space like it anywhere else in the city.
- Great crowd! Almost every table was filled when we arrived - a rare feat for an Abilene bar.
- 2 bars! A bar upstairs and downstairs. Smart and convenient!
Second impressions:
- Multiple-personality disorder. A century-old building with mid-century artwork on the walls should not have sports playing on TVs and rap blasting through the speakers. And the lingerie-clad waitresses severely cheapened the atmosphere.
- The upstairs bar couldn't process credit cards. The bartender was regularly running up and down stairs to run cards, leaving upstairs patrons without drinks while he was away.
- It emptied around 10/10:30.
A valiant effort, Fat Boss, but please work on figuring out who you are as a bar. Please don't become just another seedy pseudo-sports-bar that attracts nothing but loud crowds of cheap-beer-drinking hooligans. Abilene has enough of those already.
