First let me start by saying that I visit Anna Maria for a few weeks every year and love to try the local restaurants.  I had eaten at Feeling Swell a few times before and was generally very happy with the service and food. This wasn't the case at all on my last visit. I went in a few days ago to have a drink and dinner. The three of us went in and sat at the bar and started to browse the menu. We felt like the waitress was rushing us to take our order which was very surprising considering we were the only customers in the entire establishment.  We eventually ordered our appetizers and meals. In that time a table of 10 came in and was seated outside. This place has an open kitchen so all the customers are able to see and hear the chef as he is cooking your food.  We watched as he very angrily tossed our frozen Mac n cheese wedges into the deep fryer and waddled around in the kitchen looking very unhappy.  He then slowly brought out our appetizers to us from the kitchen a few feet away. Since we were sharing the apps we politely asked for a few small plates. He grabbed a few and slammed them down on the bar while giving us a mean look. Apparently plates are something you should not ask for in this establishment.  Our waitress eventually came back and brought out our meals. My fiancé asked our waitress for some A1 sauce for her cheese steak sandwich.  We watched the waitress walk a few feet over to the kitchen and request the sauce from the chef.  He looked up at her and very loudly said "You've gotta be fucking kidding me", for the entire establishment to hear.  I then asked him if that was going to be a problem for him and the waitress quickly came over and told me not to worry about it and that she has to deal with him all week and that he's always like that. I politely explained to the waitress that she gets paid to deal with him, and that I do not.  Big mistake by the waitress for sticking up for a lousy, rude and unappealing chef rather than her own customers that had clearly not done anything wrong.  She also said "what do you want from me? I have a 10 top outside!" Including the 3 of us that would make a whopping 13 people currently dining in the place.  It's very apparent that she can't handle 2 separate tables at once and has a very poor attitude towards customers.  The unfortunate thing is that I'm getting married in Anna Maria in a few months and the reason we went into Feeling Swell is because we wanted to talk to someone about hosting our rehearsal dinner for 45 people there. We obviously won't be doing that and have already found a terrific alternative on the island with a staff of friendly competent people.  I will never go back to feeling swell again and would strongly suggest to anyone thinking of going here to think twice.  There are much nicer places a stone's throw away that will appreciate the business much much more.  There was nothing swell about this place from the incompetent waitress to the rude grotesque "chef".
Review Source:food was pretty good, the live music wasn't bad either. good prices especially considering what the other places on the beach were charging. the only drawback was that they added 18% gratuity to the check and didn't mention anything. Â I paid with a credit card so i didn't notice the receipt and put my usual 20% tip. Â Then when i got ready to leave i notices that 18% was already added. Â Basically she made $17 on a $30 check.
Review Source:It sort of pains me to give this place 2 stars, but it's what it deserves.
We arrived on AMI after 9pm, so most places were no longer seating, leaving us with this dive bar/restaurant. Â Walking in we were greeted by the musicians that were about to begin their final set. Â He told us to order at the bar, we got our drinks (were out of Sierra Nevada), and were told to sit at a table to order by the bartender. Â We went outside worrying that the band would be awfully loud in such a small place, only to fine three perfectly empty tables....covered in dirty dishes, leftover food, half empty glasses, and beer bottles. Â We went back inside, and grabbed a table, and picked out what we wanted to eat. Â My wife proceeded to the half full bar to place our order, the bartender said she would be right over. Â Ten minutes latershe showed up, after walking buy us a number of times, and got our orders. Â We had cheeseburger, and the Cuban sandwich. Â Cheeseburger was a nasty, mealy, low grade frozen patty. Â Honestly, Wendy's has a higher quality patty. Â The Cuban was on nice bread, but was a single piece of eighth inch think ham and a not of "grilled" pork. Â It tasted ok, but there was no meat. Â The best part of the food was the boiled peanuts. Â The band ended up being rather talented, I really enjoyed their rendition of Dire Straits "Sultan of Swing".
Minus 1 for inattentive, unhelpful staff, minus 1 for dirty tables, minus 1 for bad food (even by dive bar standards). 2 stars.
Alternative math: plus 1 for ambiance, plus 1 for quickly filling us with cold beer. Â 2 stars.
I would go here again to drink beers, but thats it. Â I would try cheesesteaks next time we go, if there is a next time.
I was staying at my cottage down the road for the week and kept wanting to try this place. Since we had a toddler we placed a carry out order for the cottage. We were told there was a grautity already added into our total bc we ordered "a large order" f!! Then I forgot to mention to add bacon on the one burger so before she reread the order to me I mentioned it and she told me it was too late to add bacon on it. ???? Bacon and cheese are free of charge so its not like she needed to re-total my order. Very diappointed and canceled my order.
Review Source:Came in for lunch while shopping, and really liked what I saw. I had a burger, and it was cooked just the way I ordered it, and nice and juicy. Boyfriend's mom had a chicken cheese steak that looked amazing as well. Service was fantastic - there really is something to be said for service with a smile, especially when that smile is absolutely genuine. And when you could tell that said server was being run ragged (not assisted by a couple of power flickers) and didn't let it affect her demeanor towards the customers.
Located a couple of blocks up from the beach, it has both indoor and outdoor seating. Its not big, so I'm going to guess that at busy times there can be a wait. And if you don't know the island well, traffic can make it a pain to get in and out of. Â
Nothing fancy happening here, just good food at a local place.
My girlfriend and I were looking for a place to grab some food close to the beach. We drove around for about a half hour trying to yelp different locations but nothing seemed to fit. We finally decided to just go into the first burger place we saw which happened to be Feeling Swell. We read the reviews and 4 1/2 out of 5 stars was good enough for us to stop.
I ordered a Corona which was great and ice cold. The bartender recommended the Hamburger or the Philly Cheese steak so we each got one. The burgers came with cheese, bacon, and a pineapple slice. The philly cheesesteak was also great. Each tasted like you were grilling it yourself in the backyard.
The atmosphere was nice and the patio area where we sat was shaded and quiet during the time we were there. They have live music playing inside so I'm guessing this place gets bumping later on at night. We will definitely stop in again when we're in the area.
I am picky about my wings. I live in Chicago, and damn our wings are good. When I come to the island I want grouper sandwiches and ice cold beer. Well the beer at Feeling Swell is ice cold, which is good, because the wings are HOT. You can go mild or medium as well, but for the iron-mouthed adventure set, the HOT can't be beat.
It's a really cute place, beer and wine only, and I can't wait til our little one is big enough to go in for lunch too. We bellied up to the bar for happy hour ($1 domestic drafts) but the rest of the beers are super-reasonable so I could get some yummy Sierra Nevadas and not break the bank. We also got some sort of shrimp poppers. Like a jalapeno wrapped around a big, juicy shrimp and then fried. Not the healthiest of lunches, but fiery and fresh! A really great business on the north end of AMI. Can't wait for our next trip to hear some live music there, if Grandma and Grandpa will babysit....
I have a soft spot in my heart for Feeling Swell. Tasty food, a large outdoor area, and giant wine pours--need I say more? The food is far from gourmet, but it hits the spot, and the price is right. The servers let my husband and his British family watch all the Premier League soccer games at the bar, and they were really friendly to all of us. Very flexible and accommodating, even when we had large parties and children in tow. And they have a super-delicious HOMEMADE VEGGIE BURGER. I'll definitely be back the next time I'm on AMI.
Review Source:Great service! There is indoor seating at the tables or the bar. The outdoor seating is great with the umbrellas shading you from the strong Florida sun. The decor inside is fun and laid back. They even have live music during the evenings.
There is a great selection of drinks and beers. The list of food covers a few sides of the menu. We opted out for the cuban sandwich which came with fries or onion straws. The set of mild wings had a tang to it but was crunch and saucey at the same time. Can't wait to return!
