  We live in a north Dallas suburb, and whenever we are headed towards Amarillo, we alter our route a little bit and make it a point to stop at Fenoglio's for breakfast. It is a nice way to shift from the anonymous suburbs mentality.
  
  This is one of those real Texas barbecue places that has been there for years, with "stuff" all over the walls, a counter with stools, funny things on the wall to read while you are waiting for your breakfast or lunch (they close early, no dinner) that is made right in front of you at the counter. The people who work there are very nice, real gems. You will not leave as a stranger. And, the few times we have been there, the other customers have been very chatty too. It is the type of place where locals come to eat every day of the year.
  
  One item on the menu is the "bowl of crap", which is beans, meat, onions, etc. and jalapenos and onions, if you wish. I finally got to try a bowl of crap on my last visit, and it was really good! I had it with brisket. My husband had some sausage, and tater tots, and then some of my bowl of crap. But you could tell he wished he had just had his own bowl of crap.
  
  Prior visits, we've had more breakfasty foods, which are good, but the real draw here is the barbecue and the ambiance, and the nice people.
  
  This Friday, I am headed to northern New Mexico, and I will time my trip so I can hit up Fenoglio's for an early morning bowl of crap and a cup of coffee. It will be my fourth time there. Great place.
  
  Important to note that it is cash only, and super affordable.
