Okay - BEST BRUNCH FOOD EVER! Â I had cookie dough pancakes this morning with veggie sausages and rosemary Yukon gold potatoes that were so good, I could probably eat it all over again for dinner. Â The service was fantastic (make sure to get a guy or one of the awesome brunette waitresses) and the upstairs backroom is awesome. This is a must-try: Hurry, GO! :)
Review Source:First of all, as they acknowledge, this place is not wheelchair accessible. Â Hoisting myself up the one step from the ground entrance without even a handrail puts me in a bad mood, so my opinion might be clouded by that experience. Â Once you do make it in, there is no bathroom on the ground floor, so plan ahead if you don't do stairs.
Inaccessibility aside, my experiences here have been mixed. Â The chicken wings are the best, well done so they're crispy, not all fatty like at some places, and the sauces I tried were all delicious. Â Fish sandwich was great, and hummous was delicious, although probably not completely authentic, which I just say because it was a little different from the hummous I've had at Mideastern restaurants.
On the down side, when we ate here at the beginning of the school year in late August, there were some flies buzzing around, which put me off somewhat  The hamburger included some kind of flavoring pre-mixed in the meat, which made it too salty for my taste.
Bottom line: Â probably worth trying after fly season as long as you don't have mobility problems, not worth it if you do.
I would like to say that I am a huge fan of one of a kind trendy places to go hang out and grab a bite to eat. I was brought to The Feve by a friend and it was love at first sight. The walls are covered in local art and the atmosphere is very warm and comfortable. This is a good place to go either on a special occasion or a night out. The food is high quality with fresh ingredients and the service is outstanding. The hummus is probably the best I have ever had and i highly recommend the crab cake sandwich.
Review Source:What a great find! We were visiting the campus with our son who was considering the school. We are from California and not used to the bitter cold. I was longing for anything that remined me of home. We yelped the area for a lunch choice and went with Feve. Wow what a great sandwich selection. Many unique sandwiches with a lot of vegetarian options. Many beer choices and all California wines. My husband raved about the Cuban sandwich and I was very happy with the Ericka veggie. The decor was very simple, looked like a common california eatery. felt like home. Highly recommend you try this spot!
Review Source:This place is pretty awesome. It started off my very first day trip in Oberlin. What a cool little town!
They had awesome french toast, amazing bloody marys, and some pretty incredible stuffed crepes. All around creative menu - executed perfectly.
The best part? The owner's daughter sells some killer mac & cheese at the farmers market. Little chef in the making. It was delicious!
Why did I give this place a 3-star in 2010? What the hell was I thinking. The bar specials upstairs are to die for if you are on a budget. I mean, what can be better then getting buzzed without spending more than $10?
The new menu (as well as the classic menu) features many tasteful food. Personally, I would get the burger with the mango chutney (I forgot the name of the burger but trust me, its there) or the Brunch Burger. Speaking of brunch, their brunch special changes every week so it can be a gamble trying out their different menus but 9 out of 10 times, you'll end ordering something delicious. Just beware of the Vietnamese Sandwich if it is ever on the menu again.
Now to the sides (and yes, that includes wings). Now, I love the lemon pepper wings at WingStop but I'm not going to drive all the way to Mentor for that and the best wings here are the dry rub wings. Their sauced base wings are okay, not the best in the world, but definitely good but their hot wings were not hot at all. I have a love/hate relationship with tots.
If you can't handle college kids (and their rowdiness), I would seek another place while college is in session.
Wow! Â Been here a few times n loved it. Â Came here tonight (8/30) and we left. Upstairs bartender was rude "I just work here I don't make the rules" was his response to our surprise they were out of tater tots on tap and tots night by 6:45 pm. Oh and they don't have any beer on tap and a "limited" menu upstairs "because of construction" But they don't even have everything on that menu. Â Sorry we made the mistake of thinking this was the place we wanted to go tonight. Â We're going to spend our money someplace with food and without flippant employees.
Review Source:This is most certainly a college spot.  You'll get the vibe as soon as you walk through the door.  It's  not a bad thing, just the vibe of the joint.  To some extent, I actually appreciate that vibe.  There's no TVs on the wall, sports-bar nonsense, or coffee-shop couches.  It's a place that ditches the frills of a want-to-be fancy restaurant to serve tasty food to the college crowd; It's a place to get decent food and engage in conversation.  Service was attentive and friendly.  If I were still a college kid, I would probably give this place four or five stars.  At this point in my life, it seems just average, or maybe 3.5 stars.
I stopped in to meet some people for brunch on a Sunday and the experience was just fine. Â The pancakes are great. Â They even make a special pancake that changes regularly. Â They were serving fish and chips pancakes when I visited. Â I wasn't brave enough to try it--I couldn't shake an image of perch mixed into pancake batter. Â I shouldn't have been scared because they used fried fish and fries as a topping to the pancake. Â It looked good. Â
I had the apple caramel pancakes, which tasted great. Â The pancakes aren't the fluffy Bisquick batter pancakes you might see at other breakfast joints. Â These had a more hardy mouth-feel and they were a bit thinner than what you get from iHop or Denny's. Â It reminded me of the homemade pancakes my grandmother used to make from mixing a little bit of buckwheat into the batter.
Hot damn was this a nice find! My wife and I had taken a short road trip to take some photos at a near by state park and stopped in Oberlin for some grub and more photos.
We parked right by The Feve but walked around first. We met a nice man who recommended The Feve, giving it good a good review. We took his word and he was spot on. we got a mix of burgers, wings, and stinky tots which are garlic tater tots that would make Tina feed them to Napoleon.
Awesome vibe, good view, great service, and bad-ass food. Go there when you are in the areola!
I love this place. It has a great relaxed atmosphere, and the service is friendly. I LOVE tater tots..so much that it's kind of ridiculous. The Feve's tater tots are the best I've had. They have various kinds but I like mine spicy. Their sandwiches are delicious---my favorites are The Number Nine, Avocado Melt, and the Shistawouk. Their salad dressings are unique and very good as well. It can get pretty busy, and the restaurant itself is pretty small.
The prices are really affordable...definitely worth going to!!
Napoleon Dynamite votes Feve for the "Best Tots" Â
Situated on the Main St. of Oberlin surrounded by historical buildings and many potential fellow-thinkers that resemble an urban outfitter catalog shoot.
No-nonsense ordering flows with the smallish simplistic dining area. The Feve serves up a sizzling selection of both traditional comfort burgers and divine works of art.
Seriously this place is just fun! Â Once you get your food you can enjoy a truly great burger. Its the perfect size, flavorful and is accompanied by a fantastic side of fries, tots, or hummus (yes I said hummus) Â if you so choose.
I came a little early to avoid the crowd and parked my Texas Rear-end right  up at the bar.  I ordered a glass of wine (which was inexpensive) and I must add "No short pours here" Interesting wait-staff, friendly and engaging.  My food came out quickly and was attended to promptly throughout my meal!
"Feve for President"
The Feve is the most wonderful bar ever. Â Seriously. Â I'm not just saying that because I have fond college memories of drinking far too many $2 well drinks. Â I'm saying that because they have cheap, awesome drinks and drink specials. Â Also, the bartenders are the best bartenders ever. Â Probably. Â Also, they have tots that are far superior to any other fried tot. Â I also like their decor, exposed brick, some bizarre local artist, nothing pretentious, just a good time.
Review Source:The Feve! Yay! Some aspects of the food and drink could be better, sure, but for a college-town bar (and the only bar in town), I think it's great. Of course, order some tots to go with your Great Lakes brew, and get one or two or three of the dipping sauces to go with. Many of the sandwich-type things are very tasty. Also check out the Friday 5-7 happy hour ($1 dollar well shots/drinks)--but, if you want a table during the school-year, you'll need to get there well early. Bar upstairs (but you can also order food) and restaurant (also with full bar) downstairs.
Review Source:I am from the Chicago area and have family in Wellington, OH. They take us to The Feve every time we visit because we love it so much. I've had both their brunch and lunch/dinner.
In my opinion, the brunch is better than their lunch/dinner. Served only on the weekends, it's different every weekend and it's amazing. They also got me addicted to white wine spritzers!!! There is always a wait but I don't mind waiting for this food. And they put you upstairs to wait so you can sit and talk and have coffee while you wait.
The burgers are great. We also love the spinach pie. The best thing on the lunch/dinner menu is the breaded mushrooms- I cannot eat breaded mushrooms from anywhere else now.
I live very close to Chicago and The Feve is better than a lot of places in the city. I seriously would move to Ohio for this place!!!
Man, I wish this place was there when I went to Oberlin. It opened up right as I was leaving, but at that time, it was just a coffee shop. Now it's got amazing food, a great cocktail menu, lots of space, and that brunch was off the hook. Seriously. I'm so jealous of Oberlin "kids these days" that they have this place.
Review Source:Their regular menu is good- average- you get what you ask for generally speaking but it is a little bit on the expensive side. They have a good drink selection. Service is on the slow side and the staff is not particularly friendly.
On the flip side- their brunch is AMAZING. I love it. Usually has a long wait (upstairs) but their pancakes in particular are super yummy. Jalapeno bacon cheddar pancake a couple weeks ago was crazy delicious. I only wish they had coffee upstairs while you wait for brunch.
Overall, pretty good.
I was only in town for a couple of hours and stopped in for a quick dinner. I happily soaked in the sleepy quaintness of downtown and equally enjoyed the Feve's ambient lighting, exposed brick, and eccentric-contemporary-farm-esque-homages. I was an awkward party of one dining on the first floor. When asked about where to sit, the waiter seemed rather frazzled and never made much eye contact the whole evening. For such a chill and small place, I was curious as to why it seemed so high strung? Even when he brought my plate, it seemed like he just plopped it down with my silverware.
I wasn't in the burger mood and got the avocado melt with megan (herb seasoned) tater tots. I immediately grew jealous-- why isn't there a place like this on my campus? The tots were done oh-so-well. Hot and crispy. As I mentioned before, I'm not a vegetarian, but the avocado melt was DELICIOUS with slightly caramelized onions, sweet peppers, oozy muenster cheese, and of course-- hefty chunks of avocado. It doesn't sound like much, but I was super full by the end of the meal with tots to spare. Including tip, dinner came to $9. Score! I was pretty sad leaving such a darling little place. The Feve, you will always have a special place in my heart!
Reliably great food every time I've been, with a nice mix of vegetarian and carnivore fare. I had an avocado melt with tater tots (I ordered fresh garlic on those tots, and they rocked), and my husband had wings and the veggie plate. He reports that the wings are breaded, which he normally doesn't care for, but the flavor was pretty great. The veggie plate came with a generous portion of creamy hummus (house-made, I think). We were both really happy with our food.
The service has always been good, in my experience. On this particular visit, a party of 20 was taking over the place and were unhappy that they all couldn't sit together. (Uh, guys? I got the feeling you'd been here before- is this really the first place you think of for a PARTY OF 20?? It's the size of my living room.) The manager on duty did everything but tap-dance to keep them happy. Kudos to him and the staff for being accommodating.
I would not have gotten through college without the Feve.
The food there is amazing. Â The burgers are literally the best in the world. Â I have yet to find one as food. Â Avocado Bacon Burger? Â Bacon Swiss Portobello Burger? Â You want burgers better than these? Â Impossible. Â It's not just the burgers, either. Â The Avocado Melt is delicious, as are all the salads, even just the side, which comes with their delicious house dressing. Â The tater tots are also great. Â
Brunch is also a weekly ritual I looked forward to every week. Â It made me get up at 8am on a Saturday so I could be first in line. Â The menu changes every week, but the most memorable meals for me were the smoked salmon pancakes with a chive cream cheese spread, a duck scramble, and chocolate raspberry pancakes. Â There are always two options for pancakes; one sweet, one savory. Â You can also just order the regular ones every week. Â The pancakes here are delicious, so I would usually just get the plain unless something special caught my eye. Â I would give just about anything to have some Feve pancakes right now. Â
Yes, Oberlin is a small college town, so the Feve must cater to the needs of 2,500 kids who think they know something about the world. Â Despite this, the Feve does well in presenting itself as a mature, serious restaurant with great food and an outstanding happy hour. Â People should choose to go to Oberlin simply because they would then be able to eat at the Feve all the time.
All you five star "Feve Does Not Rhyme With Beave" reviewers? Â A few quick questions:
Are you reviewing the beer list only? Â The beer list is wonderful, chock full of variety and a few surprises, and if you're on your last buck a can o' PBR is right there for you. Â As a bar, this place is just great.
Are you reviewing the service? Â Nice folks, sure, in that "Oh, hey. Â You didn't get menus? Â I'll go talk with Hector..." way. Â Ten minutes later, "Dude! Â He never came over?" Â Sure. Â That's certainly service, if by "service" you mean "pocket full of excuses."
Are you reviewing the atmosphere? Â Brick walls full of art make the place look less like small-town Ahia, but they do not make up for college bar bathrooms, down the stairs, through the sticky hallways. Â Yeeewww. Â I'm not sqeamish, but. Â Yeeewww. Â The tables and chairs in the dining area seem to be moved after each party leaves, making for an interesting little hoe-down during a meal. Â If by "interesting" you mean "STOP moving furniture, I'm trying to eat, here."
Are you reviewing the food? We needed to chow something quickly so my two accomplices had salads and I had fish 'n' chips. Â Big mistake. Â While they had actual plates, I had some sort of cardboard wrapped in foil to resemble a boat. Â The fries were soggy, the fish was fishy, the boat sank.
Come on. Â Even given that this is a college town, there's no way this is anything more than three stars. Â As just a bar? Â Sure, four or five; they are a restaurant, though, and don't get much of anything right in that regard. Â (Nostalgia seemed to be a recurring theme in previous reviews. Â I guess nostalgia just ain't what it used to be.)
I have eaten at the Feve three times and I have yet to be disappointed by anything. In fact, it is the only restaurant in Oberlin that I insist on visiting every time I am in town. The food is delicious, the service friendly, the atmosphere fun, and the prices reasonable. I have enjoyed burgers, salads, salmon omelettes, tater tots, and more. Everything is always fresh and tasty, and the folks in the kitchen seem to be equally adept at churning out delicious pancakes during the weekend brunch as they are pulled pork sandwiches on a weekday evening. That kind of versatility is something that I don't find often in a restaurant. I cannot speak kindly enough of the Feve and the great people and yummy food that you will find there.
In short, if you are in Oberlin, go to the Feve. You will not be disappointed.
The Feve: proving that a restaurant can be trendy AND serve delicious food at the same time.
The Feve is without a doubt the best place to eat and hang out in Oberlin. Â The food is always good and sometimes great, although the brunch menu sometimes goes a little off the deep end and they don't serve any desserts. Â You can get tater tots with tons of excellent dipping sauces, and everything is incredibly affordable. Â
It's also open later than most of the other restaurants in town, and tends to be the center of downtown Oberlin's "night-life." Â Don't stop in The Feve for a quick meal, though. Â While the staff is really nice, the service is unbelievably slow, even when it's not that busy.
The food here is top-notch and could rival some of our better brunch spots in New York. Â I had a lobster pancake here a couple months ago and it was tremendous-- chunks of fresh lobster embedded throughout a delicious, flavorful pancake. Â The pancakes are the way to go here.
One time I came with some folks for drinks and tater tots up on the second floor. Â Tasty and cheap. Â The atmosphere was pretty laid-back and the bartender was friendly. Â All in all, probably one of my favorite places to hang out in Oberlin.
Great food, interesting beer choices, and a whole lotta fun!
Walking into the Feve is like walking into a cool hangout that makes you feel like you are as cool as the people in here. Â Brunch on the weekends is fantastic; after being in Oberlin over the weekend for graduation, the Asparagus Quiche was delicious. Â The Feve tries to have lots of local food and drinks from the area, making for a fun twist on local goodness.
The Feve (rhymes with rev, like an engine) is a great local, cheap bar. Â It is primarily filled with Oberlin College students.
It's split into two floors. Â The first floor is used for their weekend brunch and daily dinner. Â The second floor is the bar (dinner can be ordered at the bar upstairs, but there isn't waiter service other than bringing the meal up).
Dinner is standard and good. Â Burgers never fail here. Â Add some tater tots or stinky tots (garlic tater tots) or some fries and you're good to go.
The liquor selection is nothing to write home about, but it is CHEAP. Â Happy hour gives you $1 drinks. Â I'll order a bourbon (edit: not during happy hour) and pay $3.50 for it. Â They also have rotating daily specials, not just Friday happy hour.
It doesn't take long to know the bar staff by name (for the most part, there are just two of them). Â The only complaint that I have is that mixed drinks (rum and coke, or bourbon and coke) can be somewhat weak. Â If you prefer stronger drinks, I suggest you specify that (ex. "a bourbon with a splash of coke" or something more accurate to your preferences).
The Feve gets five stars. Â It was my college bar, and the only bar where I've really been a regular.
An important fixture in downtown Oberlin for students, professors, and town residents alike.
Pretty damn good food (the buffalo shistawook, cilantro-lime-chicken salad and Feve burger are all consistently great), chill atmosphere, and a friendly bar staff make this a great place to drink or eat. Decent brew selection as well.
Weekend brunch earns 5+ stars...an ever-changing menu of different sweet and savory cakes, exotic scrambles, and more. Outstanding. And affordable.
Tripping over my feet, nalgene bottle fulled to the brim with cheap pinot grinot - the Feve is where I would haul my drunk A$$. And it was always so welcoming. There were the charming towny bartenders that always hooked you up with at least one drink on a slow night,, the drunk - butt pinching townies who tried to corner you at the bathroom, and the La Grange - wasted limo driver - that would drunkenly promise you a free ride in his 'luxory vehicle.' Hell, on a Friday or Saturday night - there's  all of Oberlin crammed into a tiny space known lovingly as the "Feve."
The Feve has so much nostalgic charm, that as I write this, I'm craving a whiskey sour and a plate of tater-tots. Many a night was spent crammed into a Feve booth, bitching about the 'oh so cool' server that rolled their eyes, when you asked for more silverware. Or the lame party packed with freshman and loud jocks. Many a casual date (wait - who am I kidding - no one dates in Oberlin) ended up at the Feve for some hot wings, or warm chai. The Feve has undergone so many changes - some good, some bad; but it's still immortal. Everyone has a drunk embarassing story that begins or ends here. From patting down guy's crotches after spilled wine- to tripping down the stairs head first. Â I can't wait to revisit for commencement sometime, and down some PBR upstairs, in a hazy room full of smoke.....
Oh, The Feve. How you nourished me with your tater tots, grilled cheese, felafel and tang. I miss your brick walls, surly waitstaff and the thrill of hearing your name screamed over the loud punk rock that was a staple of the joint. My ill fated college experience at Oberlin just wouldn't have been the same without you.
