I'm not sure if anyone ever really GOES to Yelm...but, if you're in the area be sure to stop at Flanagan's Apple. It's a bit off the beaten path, but it's worth it!

When you walk in, whether the joint is packed like a sardine can or if it's only you and your buddies, you will instantly feel welcomed. The walls are adorned with folksy Irish artwork, blessings, and quotes...and, the owner (albeit not from Ireland, but Liverpool) will welcome you with as authentic of an Irish greeting as I've ever experienced.

On Friday and Saturday nights, they host and open mic night, which is extremely fun. But, get there early - the place is always PACKED!! My first time was a few months ago on a Friday and I was surprised that there were that many people that knew how to play and sing Irish music! Fiddles and guitars, singers and dancers all made for an enjoyable evening.

The menu is small and has a good variety of generic pub grub and authentic Irish fare. Not over priced, and the quality is suitable. Just be aware that this is NOT fine dining. They have a good choice of beer (including Smithwicks and Guinness, naturally) which are reasonably priced as well.

The ONLY complaint I have about this place is the wait staff. The owner, his wife, and I think his mother (cook in the kitchen) are all EXTREMELY hospitable, funny, welcoming and warm - but, the kids he has working the floor are a bit inattentive and slow-going.

Other than that, I say GO! You'll be glad you did!

I really wish I could put more stars on this place. I have been dying to go here for a while now living in Roy. finally went here with my girlfriend and I would say five stars for the environment and all the staff except our server. he was just plain horrible never once checked on us, had to keep going to the bartender to get the drinks and order food. if you are looking for a good traditional shepherds pie do not order it here. the shepherds pie is just a soup with a ridiculous amount of huge vegetables with a little bit of mashed potatoes thrown on top. I didn't come across any meat in it so who knows if it had any meat. it was completely flavorless so I ordered the bangers and mash and my server didn't even take it off of the menu he just throughout the shepherds pie that I sent back. If I were going to pay $12 for absolutely nothing I would've much rather brought it home and fed it to my dogs. it wasn't until I went to the bar to talk to the bartender who I believe is maybe a family member of the owner good then took it off the tab and finally after waiting for 20 minutes for a drink made me a new drink. the bangers and mash were pretty good I have had better but I wouldn't complain about it the shepherds pie is for sure no good as far as drinks the Irish fix is delicious. I would definitely come back here for the environment I would just never order that again it was such a disappointment when I was so looking forward to the shepherds pie. the reason I love this place is because I come from a heavily populated Irish town with many Irish pubs back east and was hoping to love it. unfortunately the food is not so great and the service is really horrible perhaps if I go back and the service is better I will review this place again.

I wish I could give it 2.5 stars. It's not too bad but the service gets slow and the food is not fresh. John the owner is very cool and sometimes sings. I like the feel of the joint but I just wish they were better.

This place is easy to miss when driving through Yelm.  It sits a bit back from the road so one has to look for it.  It is worth looking for though.
The people there are pleasant and the live music is fun.  The food isn't all that Irish but it is good and the spirits flow freely.
The outside area is nice when the weather permits it's use.  Try it for a fun evening out with friends.

I've been here a few times now, but then I went for their New Year party... I had so much fun! The people that work there are wonderful, all very friendly. The waitress (Heather) is always really sweet and helpful.
The food is reasonable priced, there are enough options without it being overwhelming, and each thing I've tried is good. The prices for drinks are also decent and plenty of options.
The fact that they have live music and NO TV!! actually are both big positives. Some nights, they have an open mic.

I really love this place too!  When in Yelm, do as the Irish do, go to Flanagan's Apple!  We are from out-of-state but visit often.  Flanagan's Apple is our first choice for great beer and food! The corned beef and cabbage as well as the sheppard's pie are worth the 18 hour trip by themselves!  We bring the kids and grandkids to this friendly welcoming home away from home knowing we will have a great time.  We listen to live music, relax with a pint and the little ones enjoy the toys provided! We all look forward to our next trip to Yelm and Flanagan's Apple.

This sweet little spot has wonderful owners who are gracious and welcoming and kind. They make a great sausage roll, and can play music to beat the band. There is an open mic night Fridays where you never know who will come through the door or with what instrument (incl bagpipes!). The ambiance and energy here are lovely; the food is good; the patio has umbrellas and heaters amidst a cozy garden setting. Go, go! Your new favorite local pub awaits.

I really love this place. Live music good food, great beer and other drinks but the thing that makes it really stand out is the service and music. The owner sing and is amazing! We bring our kids when we go and they always have toys there for them to play with. Its a very chill family friendly restaurant/bar. Breakfast isn't the best there but I love their corned beef and cabbage on Sundays.

We stopped by on a random Thursday night, its close enough we can walk, but the waitress told the guys that they were closing within an hour, so we didnt want to waste time walking! LOL... anyhow, we walk up the landscaped front, and walk in to a step into an authentic Irish Pub. Lots of decorations hanging on the walls, there was someone playing guitar and singing, but it was such a nice night that we wanted to sit on the patio, the waitress turned up the lights so we could read the menu, with the umbrellas up, the light is pretty minimal. She offered suggestions for drinks, the guys got a pitcher of Smithwicks, and the girls got a mixed concoction from the bartender, that was sure to be a hit... and it definitely was! We then decided to order the Irish Soda Bread with the honey butter... it was delish! We will definitely be heading back! ... Plus we will be heading back for Halloween, to pick up a bag of their ice... its a different shape, from their small ice maker, but the waitress said to just give them some heads up and they would have no problem getting it for us!

A nice looking place that grabs your eye as you drive on by, Flanagan's Apple has probably cornered the booming Yelm scene for Irish Pubs. It has a nice interior that looks like it was a Mexican Restaurant in a previous life that has now been remodeled with traditional Irish Pub swag  all over the place, the look works a little better than  I would have imagined reading this description.

The whole party got a Black and Tans (made with Smithwicks and Guiness) that hit the spot perfectly. The waitress was phenomenal, kind, quirky, and helps to make the place shine. The food she brought out, however, put frowns on the faces she had previously put smiles on.

We didn't go for a full dinner (prices were closer to $12-$15, so we just grabbed a snack) and instead just split an appetizer platter. While this isn't normally the culinary highlights of a place, its normally alright tasting. What we got was this:

4 Mozzarella Sticks that were, at best, warm on the inside
5 Fried Mushrooms that were just fine
5 Chicken Wings that were tiny and extremely overcooked
    Some carrot and celery sticks
    Ranch dressing

A promising place with a great staff that just needs some help from the kitchen.

I have been here numerous times....no TV...just a great place to grab a pint, some food, and some conversation. Plus grabbing the guitar hanging on the wall and singing some irish tunes is pretty damn cool.
