We stopped overnight in Grand Rapids and were looking for a good place for breakfast. We came across this place and what a fantastic choice. The atmosphere is great. It looks like a lodge with big windows overlooking the lake. The service was fantastic. The waitresses were all walking around at a quick pace and taking care of of everything very quickly. It is not too often you see such hustle great customer service. This food was great. I had a ham and cheese omelet with hash browns. The omelet was good and the hash towns had a nice crisp on them. The other people at our table had a regular egg platters and a smoked sausage scramble. The smoked sausage scramble was really good. All and all, this is a great place for breakfast. The good is great, the service is amazing and the prices are very reasonable. I would recommend this to anyone looking for breakfast.
Review Source:This is a GR mainstay, around for as long as I can remember... and virtually nothing has been updated in all that time, it looks a bit run-down at this point which is sad because their food really is consistent and fabulous. Â
I recall going to the downstairs steak house before school dances because that was one of the most "formal" places in town. Â Now we generally sit in the bar with the free popcorn. Â My favorite thing to order here is the German Rueben.... YUM! Â This thing is fantastic. Â Add a side of waffle fries and you are one stuffed customer for a reasonable price.
That being said you can't really go wrong with anything here. Â Their salads are good (they used to have a seafood salad that was delicious, but that was many years ago), their pastas are good, their meats are generally good. Â
I would go five stars if this place was updated. Â The bathrooms are flashback to the 80's, the carpet pretty much has wear holes in it, the table coverings are also wearing thin. Â A nice place, a nice location with consistent food and friendly staff. Â It needs a facelift, but that doesn't detract from the food, although it may put some people off before they even sit down.
After a long day paddling your kayak, you can really work up an appetite. Why not satiate it at Forest Lake Restaurant & Lounge? You can order a big steak or huge ribs or walleye and get a gigantic side of the famous twice-baked potatoes or one of their soups. Beer cheese soup maybe?!
The food is straightforward. It fills you up, that's for sure. And it's mostly pleasant. No, I suppose there's not a lot of finesse or subtlety, but didn't you say you were looking to satiate the hunger you worked up out on the lake? Mission accomplished, right?
had a craving for steak on my way back from Duluth. Â the reviews on yelp were encouraging and it was right off highway 2, so i figured i'd stop in. Â for starters, you've got to try their strawberry butter. Â it tastes almost like strawberry milkshake and you might be tempted to grab a straw! Â as for the salad....eh. Â the steak was average to above average. Â it was well cooked (medium rare) and was nice and thick and the jack daniel's sauce was good, but nothing to write home about. Â
now, for my favorite part of the meal... the twice baked potatoes! Â it was simply delicious! Â it was filled with bacon bits, cheese and cooked to perfection. Â my girlfriend couldn't stop reaching over, eating half my potatoes. Â
overall, i was very pleased and satisfied with the place. Â love the woodsy decor and the staff were nice and friendly. Â would i come again, certainly.
Love this restaurant! Â Never had a bad meal here! Â Their twice baked stuffed potatoes are delicious, the ribs and steaks are very good too. Â They have a strawberry butter for the bread that I so love! Â Love the woodsy atmosphere and you can look out at the lake when you eat downstairs which is where we almost always go.
Also they have delicious breakfast meals upstairs and lunch items. Â Great restaurant, one of our favorites for all meals!
