Frank's is one of my favorite little family-owned & operated restaurants in the Luling-Lockfart-San Marcos area.  I love their barbecued brisket plate, which is at least 3" thick!  And I'm in love with their burgers - be sure & try their jalapeño bun!  Friendliest owners you'd ever want to meet!  Attentive wait staff.  Reasonable prices.  Large portions.  I drive 11 miles just to go there!

Good place to go if you want some barbeque in the Martindale area, but don't want to go into San Marcos or farther.

The staff was very attentive and friendly. The decor was what you'd expect of a barbeque restaurant with some Mexican artwork thrown in. The ceiling was pretty cool. My friend and I couldn't figure out what it was, but it had that exposed beam look that was covered with dark pink...harden foam? The description makes it sound a little weird, but it looks interesting in real life.

The food was good. The brisket sandwich was a little dry and I wasn't a huge fan of the almond slaw. I think what got me was that it was a too sweet. My friend had the gumbo (soup of the day) and cornbread and she said it was delicious. And yay! Free refills on the sweet tea. They came in styrofoam cups and the waitress even told us to fill up for the trip home.

If I lived in the area, I can see this being a place I'd go to often.

Ended up here with a craving for BBQ as we drove through Lockhart on a Saturday but the lines were longer than my wife and baby's patience.

While this place is only about 10 minutes from Lockhart, it might as well be on another planet when it comes to BBQ.  The meat was nice and tender on the brisket but the lack of bark and smokiness led to an unhealthy dependency on sauce for flavor.  The pork ribs eschewed a rub for a sauce and were lacking in just about every way (except tenderness).  The sausage was moist but the flavoring didn't work for me.  The menu says they smoke the meat but I wouldn't be surprised if they reheat it via steaming or a microwave.

As for sides, I didn't care for the pineapple cole slaw.  The tater tots were passable.

I'm giving this place 3 stars because they were really nice and I think it's probably a solid place for standard American food.  But based on the food I had, I'd give up on the BBQ.
