Awesome place! My boyfriend and myself sat at the bar on a Thursday evening. Rich was the bartender and he was very friendly! The wine is high class and very good. The food was even more high class and delicious. They have themes nights every week where they do a different type of food ei: New Orleans night and they have homey New Orleans type food. Everything was great and we are dying for an opportunity to go back! Prices reflect as per the excellent service and great eats!

I have to admit I was pretty disappointed with this place. I moved up to Monroe about 3 years ago from the City and I was very excited to see a nice wine bar opening. My first time there I met a friend at the bar and later that night had 2 more friends join us. The bartender was a lot of fun and the drinks were good. We order some apps, which were very reminiscent of the late 90s in the style, and when I got the check $$$ Very NYC Pricing.   Being once in the biz myself I gave it another shot. My mom was in town and wanted to go out for dinner. I told her about the new wine bar and restaurant. The place was pack, lots of good looking fun people, great vibe.  But once again the food fell flat and the prices are just not justified.  My 3rd and prob last time here, I had some friends up from the city, I wanted to take everyone out for a drink and some dessert, we came in on a Sunday at 7:30, there was a few tables, the 4 of sat at the bar and ordered a round of drinks. Then ordered 2 desserts to share and one more round. Its now 8:30 and the place is empty and just the staff staring at us. I asked when they closed and she said they were. I didn't want to hold anyone up so got the check $130!   I love the idea of a nice place in Monroe, but this place falls flat.

Fairly average restaurant with a high price

I have been to this restaurant twice. Both times I ordered salads which were good but for the price not amazing. Way too much dressing was put on them, I would suggest asking for it on the side.

The restaurant has high ceilings which tend to echo noise and keep the place very loud even when there are not many people. The atmosphere is nice inside and it does sit right on the edge of the pond for a nice view outside as well.

The service on both occasions was sub par and somewhat awkward. I would highly suggest limiting the specials for the day to not have a long drawn out speech at the beginning of the meal.

Went to Fusion with friends on a Saturday night and wasn't impressed at all.  It was crowded, very loud, and very cold if you are seated by the door.  The service was slow and my friend had to send her fish back because it was raw.  Our table was  given complimentary drinks for my friend's additional 15 minute wait for cooked fish; however.  I ordered spinach lasanga thinking it was the healthiest choice on a very limited menu only to find out that it was probably the worst choice in terms of fat and calorie content!  It was so loaded with cheese that 3 bites made me sick.  I took the rest home only to throw it out the next day.  Not impressed and won't go back.

It's hard for me to review Fusion as I only had a salad when I came here the other day with my mom. We were trying to be "healthy" since we have been eating nothing but junk (oh the holiday's), so we both got salads - one with salmon and one with shrimp. They were okay, nothing to really write home about. There was nothing different about them  and you would think for the price tag, they would have some type of WOW factor. Nope. I was honestly disappointed. I would say that I should come here for dinner to give it a second chance, but I am a little nervous that dinner will also be an average meal with a heavy price tag. I guess time will tell what I decide to do...

I came across this gem of a restaurant via the Yelp reviews, and I sure wasn't disappointed!  Located where the Velvet Monkey used to be, this restaurant is a pleasant surprise and welcome addition to my local favorites!   Went for a girls night out and found the ambiance and service to be excellent.  Decor is on the minimalist side. We felt the timing of the food from the kitchen was just right.  Not rushed and not slow.  I had the lobster mac and cheese, which was yummy and my friend had the tuna tartar app.  Both very good.  Miso glazed sea bass and lamb shank special for entree were excellent.  There were so many good choices on the menu I had a hard time deciding on my meal and can't wait to go again.  The wine recommended to us was delicious.   As previous reviewers mentioned, it was a little loud, but didn't detract from the overall experience.   (After all, people were making merry and enjoying themselves - a good sign of a good spot!) The tables are pretty close together, so there's not much privacy to conversation.  Regardless, this is a lively, tasty experience and I can't wait to go again!

We are sorely in need of fine dining establishments in Orange County, NY.  FOUND ONE!

Don't know how this one has escaped my knowledge for so long but I'm thrilled to have found it.  First, called late in the day on Saturday for a reservation that night.  Spoke with Matthew who squeezed us in - and I mean, squeezed.  We took the last table available!  We were stuck in traffic so I called to let him know we'd be a half hour late - "NO PROBLEM!  We'll hold your table"   Score!

Christine was our waitress and couldn't have been friendlier.  They had some great specials, we had a hard time choosing.  I had the scallops over lobster and pea risotto.  It was delicious.  Hubs had a porterhouse veal chop.  I'm not a huge fan of veal, but I tasted it and it was really good.  The chef clearly knows what she's doing.

The ONLY compliant I have about the restaurant is that its REALLY loud in there.  They currently have wood on the ceiling and I guess they've had enough comments about the noise level that they are going to put something more sound proof up there.  It became a non-issue for me once I had enough wine in me, but I had a rough day and when we first sat down I thought it was going to be a problem.  It's hard when you can't have a conversation with your dinner partner.  But hey, if that's the worst thing I can say about this place then that's a pretty good thing.

It's worth it.  Go try it, but don't take my table!

First, they need servers who can tell you what's in the dishes.  I don't want to hear that the salad has "lettuce and stuff" or that she has to ask the chef what's in a dish.  Servers should know that.  The pizza appy was delicious.  My frenched chicken breast over Gorgonzola risotta was overcooked and the Gorgonzola was overpowering.  My friend had the special of swordfish and monkfish over risotto with truffle which was disappointing for $29.  The swordfish was overcooked and the piece of monkfish was good but very small.  There was no taste of truffle in the risotto. Will try again but only for appys and drinks.

I went to Fushion on a Saturday night, it was packed and no place to sit. After waiting there for approx. 5 mins to see how long the wait was, my bf and I just turned around and walked out since nobody really acknowledged our presence. but its ok, i forgive them because they were really busy.

I still wanted to go there so the second time around was much better. My bf's friend was playing music there so it was exciting for him. It was half packed this time and we sat at the bar. I ordered beer and the miso glazed salmon. It was good, despite that was my first meal of the day after a rough hangover.

Haven't been there ever since, but def will go back for more!

Fusion is exactly the kind of place that is needed in Monroe.  I think there should be 4 or 5 restaurants like this in town!  Its upscale, but not overly formal.  It has a really cool "vibe".

This was our second trip.  The first time we just sat at the bar and had drinks and dessert.  That was a lot of fun.  The Bananas Foster was awesome!  The bartender offered several tastes of wine until I found one I liked.. which was perfect.  A great experience.

The second time we came for dinner, which had it's good and bad points.

Please keep in mind -- the following comments are not meant to discourage anyone from patronizing Fusion... quite the contrary.  This is all constructive criticism.  I offer this as someone who has worked in the hospitality industry and really wants Fusion to succeed.

The food is very good.  My wife ordered a Sea Bass, & Sea Scallop Lobster risotto special which was delicious.  I had a T-Bone steak (my favorite cut) which was good quality meat, but it tasted overly smoky.  I like a lot of seasoning, but this tasted "wrong" to me somehow.  It almost seemed as if it was in a house fire.

Onto the service.  Our waiter was very calm, collected and professional.  I felt like we had the best waiter in the room.  As I sat in my seat facing towards the kitchen, I felt like there were just TOO many staff members in the service area.  This became a reality when the young bus staff came to fill our water glasses way TOO often.  There is a fine line between attentive service and intrusive service.  It all would have been fine except every single time someone would come to fill the water glasses he or she would stand on ONE side of the table and fill BOTH glasses.  Now if you think about this for a second, you may realize the problem with this... there was someone constantly reaching across my wife's face for her water glass while we were trying to have a conversation.  Its a very simple but important point of service:  Beverages should always served from the right.  Food should always be served from left.  Plates should always be cleared form the right.  This seems to be a forgotten point of service, but costs nothing to implement and adds a lot to the experience...even if the guests are not aware of these, perhaps "old school" rules.

When the waiter brought the check he said "take your time" which was appreciated.  There were people at the bar, probably waiting for our table, so we didn't linger too long, but the waiter's invitation to take our time was a nice gesture.

I encourage everyone to patronize Fusion and I encourage Fusion to continue to peruse excellence.

This chef knows how to cook. Every dish was well prepared and presented with flair. The musician added to the ambiance without drowning out our conversation. The wine selected by our waiter was superior.

When we return to this area of the world, we will definitely return to this restaurant.

Bland and very long to come out of the kitchen.
The mac & cheese wasn't bad but why serve a starter which could feed 2 people as the main dish?

Great food, but left with a bad taste in my mouth.

My wife and I had dinner with another couple on Friday night (4/27/12) at Fusion Cafe an Wine Bar. We sat down right away (6:30 reservation.) Wonderful food!! I had the a steak special that was amazing! We were having a great time until we paid the check. Now, I am NOT complaining about the price of the meal. I certainly do not mind paying a hard earned dollar for a quality meal. But, once we paid our bill, the server asked us to leave because they "were too busy and needed the table." We certainly were not being squatters and hoarding the table. We had just finished paying our bill! Now, there is a way of clearing customers from their table without being so rude. Offer them an after dinner drink at the bar or something. We wouldn't have even taken them up on the offer, but would have left with a better taste in our mouths.

Good luck to Fusion Cafe and Wine Bar. Monroe is in need of a few great dining spots. But, most of all, as a customer, good luck keeping you table.

I have dined at fusion twice so far, once for dinner and once for lunch. both times it was excellent! The first time I had my birthday dinner here and we had roughly 12 people. they were very accommodating. I started out with the fried calamari. This calamari is absolutely divine! the fruit jelly dipping sauce is so different from regular marinara! (i also tasted a friends chopped salad and it was very good). For my meal I chose to get another appetizer, i had a special that was clams and chorizo with beans and corn in a broth.  it was fantastic! our entire party loved their dishes (only complainent i heard was that the flatbread pizza wasnt as good as expected and was too dry) and we all LOVED the vino! when i went for lunch i also started with the calamari and had the organic chicken panini with the apples and cranberry jelly. it was great as i expected

Party of 8 on a Saturday night.  My meal was rare or not cooked fully (Pork). My fiance's didn't arrive for a good 5 or 6 mins after everyone else's.  Mark (manager) rectified these 2 problems so quick and with such kindness and in a professional manner!  WE WILL BE BACK.  The cuisine  was awesome and our evening was a joy.  Our waitress cared; she was on-key, kind and very attentive - that is rare.

OK, so I am going to be a bit hard on this place because I really feel it could be great if it just changed a few things.
We had a 7:30 reservation for 2 on a Saturday night. The tables in the dining room are arranged in a bit of an awkward manor and seating position is very important to me when I am eating. I see many restaurants make the mistake of trying to cram as many people in as possible and this can makes things uncomfortable. We had 2 seating options here: 1- Immediately between (more like on top of) 2 other parties sharing the same bench or 2- A random 2 seat table in the middle of the floor. We chose option #2 and this proved to be a little uncomfortable. We constantly had waiters walking by and tripping all over us because the tables were so close together. We also watched the bar traffic flow into our table crowd us while we were eating. The last thing I want to have 1 foot from my face while I am eating is the ass of a stranger. I felt very claustrophobic. Also, the table shook like crazy when I cut my steak and this is another thing that drives me crazy when I am eating. It is a good way to have your food wind up on your shirt.
We each ordered a glass of the Bodega Cabernet to start, and for a wine bar we were not impressed at all. I think it had more to do with the temperature of the wine than the wine itself, but if you call yourself a wine bar the wine should be stored correctly.
For an appy Kerry and I ordered the Sweet and Spicy Ribs. I thought they were fantastic, with just the right amount of sauce so no complaints there. Kerry got the Steak Taco Salad for an entree and that was excellent as well. Definitely something I would consider ordering next time. I ordered the Grilled Monterey Rubbed NY Strip for my dinner and I was not overly impressed. The quality of meat and cooking temperature were not better than that of a TGI Fridays type place. It was OK, but I would not order it again. This was probably my mistake because this was not really the type of place that I would get a good steak in, so next time I will go with something else. The second glass of wine was a house Malbec (not sure of the brand) but it was better than the Cab, only it could have been a little cooler in temperature as well. Temperature has a huge impact on a wine's taste.
All in all it was not a horrible experience, but I do get the impression (from the decor and prices) that they are shooting for a higher end image. If that is the case than they have a little work to do. We desperately need more decent dining establishments in Monroe, and I think Fusion is on the right track.
The service was fine, no complaints there. Our waiter was attentive even though he was really busy, and he was knowledgeable of the wine list as well.
I would go back to this cafe again, but perhaps when it is not so busy for a better dining experience.

My wife and 2 and 3 year old son went on Friday night without a reservation.  The hostess and general manager were very accommodating and found us a seat even though the restaurant was very busy.

We started with the crab mac and cheese and it was excellent (I would come back just for that).  We then split the Steak Taco Salad and Drunken Tequila Shrimp.  Both entrees and drinks were delicious and reasonably priced.

The waitress and staff were very attentive and made it a good experience.

It is nice to have a reasonably priced restaurant with great food in the Monroe Area.

The team of Ramapo Dental recently descended on Fusion Cafe and Wine Bar.  With 16 people from Rockland, Orange and Bergen counties, of various tastes and palates,  I would of thought SOMEONE might not have been impressed.  However, everyone was thrilled with the diverse, inventive menu.  Chef Kathy has a knack for creating dishes with real culinary aplomb. I sat at the end of the table and watched as one by one, my fellow diners got wide-eyed with delight as they took their first bites.  Fusion offers an artful blend of Asian, European, Latin and classic American fare, all infused with subtle nuances and flavor combinations, elegantly plated and served by an attentive and professional waitstaff.  Imagine, an upscale NYC restaurant, but without the NYC prices, and right here in Monroe!  Don't hesitate, check out Fusion Cafe soon.  Don't be surprised if the dining room is packed - the word is out, and everyone is flocking to the latest and greatest dining experience in the area.  Fusion - the name says it all!

Went with our friends lat night.  We could only get reservations at 530 or 930, so we decided to go at 930 and show up a bit early to wait at the bar.  Not a good idea, the place was absolutely packed with diners at the bar.  We went to another place for a drink then came back around 930. The place was still exceptionally busy, but they seated us quickly(after we found the host ourselves).  We ordered the beef salad special, the eggplant, and the crab mac and cheese for appetizers. The beef salad had cabbage and Thai spices. It was unusual and exceptional.  The eggplant was ok, but thought too thick and rather bland. The crab mac and cheese was sinfully good and very cheesy. For entrees we got the duck special, ny strip, beef special, and the seabass with gnocchi. All were delicious, but the duck was unbelievably tasty.  I eat out in Manhattan alot and the steak was on par if not better than steakhouses there.  I tasted the seabass and it was light and flaky, the gnocchi was rich, moist, and delicious. But, I can't stop thinking about the duck special.  It really was one of the better prepared duck dishes I've had in a long time.   I don't know if they will make it a regular on the menu, so get it before they remove it!

Overall, it's a new restaurant so they are figuring out how to deal with the crowd, but they need a host/hostess who stays standing at the door who directs waiting guests and helps them get a drink at the bar while they are waiting.  But, it's food here that will keep people coming back.  It's as good or better as some NYC restaurants that charge double the price. Orange county needs more establishments like this and this should be a model for the way to do it right.   Fuslon Cafe will be a staple in our dining lives.

For the stars,  5 for the food, 5 for the wait staff, 3 for the host/bar wait. But I'm sure they will get that to 5 after some time.

A welcome addition to the Monroe dining scene. While the wait is a tad long (to be expected as they've only been open a few months) it's worth the wait. Bartender is quite adept and knowledgeable at her craft surprising us with great cocktails that she created using only her imagination. Service at the table was timely and curteous. Food far exceeded our expectations as we weren't expecting much from a restaurant in Monroe.  Keep in mind that Monroe is the type of town that only offers you unimaginative variations of Italian food and barely anything else. So obviously Fusion Cafe is a beacon of hope that we can have decent dining options in our little town. We had the Tuna tartare, swai, and the NY strip and we enjoyed every bite.

We'll be back, without a doubt. I hope this restaurant thrives and shows potential business owners that a contemporary American restaurant can thrive in this community, thus attracting more great places like Fusion Cafe.

We recently went to the Fusion Cafe and Wine Bar and the food was very good. I had the drunken tequila shrimp and it was a decent size and very tasty. However, a little spicy for those who prefer blander food. My sister really enjoyed her chicken a la cognac. The men ordered burgers and said they were pretty good. They had a decent selection of wine but were a little on the pricey side.

The only cons were that they do not take reservations for less than 5 people. The tables are also fairly close together and they could use some light music to liven things up a bit.

Fusion Cafe and Wine Bar is an awesome restaurant for both lunch and dinner.  The food is  delicious and affordable - "Classic American favorites prepared with a Latin/Asian twist."

The management, wait staff and bartenders are VERY helpful courteous and attentive to the needs of their patrons.  My wife and I have eaten at all the various restaurants both new and old in the Monroe area and have to say that Fusion is our new favorite.  The menu is diverse and delicious, the prices are extremely reasonable - especially compared to the previous establishment , The Velvet Monkey, which gauged all who walked through the door.  Fusion really lives up to their name in all respects including helping pair your food to your wine.  Upon my asking our waitress which wine she recommended to go with my Drunken Tequila Shrimp (which was Dee-Lish), she brought me 3 samples of different red wines to sample - a very cool gesture I thought.  We had a few of the appetizers and they were excellent as well.

Towards the end of our meal it was very nice to meet one of the owners, Mark, who had been moving around the restaurant greeting diners and helping out where needed.  A hands on owner is usually the mark of a successful business and we really hope that the case is true here.  Fusion Cafe and Wine Bar is a VERY welcome restaurant to our area.  Check it out ASAP - I'm sure you'll agree.

If there was a 2.5, I would give it a 2.5. Exactly average.

First off, we emailed on Thursday or Friday and left a voice mail  message in an attempt to make a reservation for Saturday night. We also  tried calling on Saturday afternoon and  into the evening  (4 or 5 times total from 2pm to 7pm) and nobody picked up. The automated message played and we left a VM for a call back. They didn't. Then we showed up at 8pm and it's packed, with a 1 hour wait. I asked the Manager why they weren't answering the phone and he just picked a cordless phone out of his pocket, looked at it, looked at me as if this was some "new fangled" piece of technology that he didn't quite know what to make of and shrugged. He wasn't rude, but that was so not helpful at all. I understand that they are new and very busy, but answer the phone at some point and return a call. At the very least call the next day to say "Hey sorry, it's been totally nuts here and we just couldn't get back to you yesterday, but please come in any time." It's almost as if they are taking the easy way out like chain restaurants that don't take reservations.......except they should just say that, so people stop trying.

I was just really curious to try it so I went by myself for lunch on Tuesday. The same Manager greeted me and he really seemed nice. I asked him a few questions about the menu and then ordered an Eggplant Caprese Salad and the Fish Wrap with Black Beans and Roasted Corn. I ordered the Fries after asking how they were prepared. He explained that they were "tossed in some flour" and that "she sprinkles salt and pepper on them."

Appetizer arrives:  I was expecting a thin, crispy piece of eggplant, layered with tomato and fresh Mozzarella. What I got: On the outer rim of one side of the plate were three small, good tasting pieces of Mozzarella layered with three  small tomato slices and a nice pesto style drizzle. The eggplant  was on a bed of greens as two thickly cut, thickly battered, oily, deep fried pucks not incorporated into the Caprese in any way. If this is  "Crispy Eggplant Caprese", it's "lazy" as it's really two appetizers in one: A good but miniature Caprese Salad and a not so good Fried Eggplant

Fish Wrap and Fries arrive. It's a deep fried piece of fish with not much flake with some corn and black beans and a Mayo "ish" spread inside a flour tortilla. The corn and Black beans do not taste seasoned and are pretty bland, but the whole package tasted okay. If you are feeling like fish, this "Trifecta of Starch" (Battered Fish, Corn/Beans, Flour Tortilla), does not provide the "I had fish for lunch" feel that you might be thinking of. Was it bad? No. Would I order it again? No

My biggest complaint was the Fries. I was originally confused because when he said "tossed in flour" and "sprinkled with Salt and Pepper" it gave the impression that there was a home-made element. The confusion stemmed from the idea that the only fries that are flour coated are the processed ones you see at certain restaurants that come frozen in a bag. But the words "Tossed" and "Sprinkled" gave me a little bit of hope. They turned out to be those HORRIBLE BARNACLE FRIES that are similar to the ones that Burger King abandoned 2 years ago because no one could stand them. They are the ones that have those tiny crispy strands hanging off them. They stay crispy longer and that's why certain restaurants like them as they don't have to throw out batches as frequently.  The problem is that they are oily, are more likely to take on the flavor of the oil they were fried in (very fishy oil in this case). I have never met anyone who likes this style. When I suggested that these fries will not be very popular with their customers, he mentioned that I could substitute next time.  That was certainly very nice of him, but I was politely suggesting that he should pass this along to the chef and that they should at least explore the possibility of switching them out.  I get it  that this restaurant's lunch crowd is not their main focus and that these fries were probably an afterthought, but if you serve lunch, and feature mostly sandwiches that come with fries, having the fries be decent is probably a good idea.

The only reason I wrote this review was NOT  because I had some kind of awful dining experience (it was fine), but more because I feel that the 5 consecutive 5 Star ratings just doesn't do Yelpers any favors. I am not saying the other reviews are necessarily disingenuous, but 5 perfect reviews raise eyebrows.

The bar seems nice and I will return again to give it a chance for dinner. I still honestly dont know if they take reservations.

I have been here twice for lunch, with a good friend whose suggestion it was.  The food is terrific, the service excellent and the overall feel is friendly and sophisticated.  I can't believe it's in Monroe!   Mark, the General Manager, has urged us to try it for dinner and I can't wait to do so!  Don't miss this wonderful new restaurant!

Went a few weeks ago for dinner a week after it opened. I can honesty say I was surprised; the food was amazing and so was the service. There was a little bit of a wait for a table, but since its the new flavor of the week you have to expect the locals to come and support the new business. Pricing was very reasonable for the quality of the food. I will be back in the close to near future.

From the moment we entered the front door we all knew we had found something special.  Fusion looks like a restaurant you would see in a hip NYC neighborhood.  The open, airy layout was upscale and inviting.  A stop at the bar for pre-dinner drinks had us encounter a friendly and knowledgeable bartender.  After a brief conversation, our bartender knew exactly what to make us and her concoction was right on.  We sat down and the waiter was attentive but not overbearing.  Our group of four saw so many interesting things on the menu that we decided to order every appetizer on the menu (including the special) and split them as our entire meal.  The service was spot on.  The host, Mark, came over and suggested some wine pairings that were both spot on and not expensive.  He did NOT try to sell us the most expensive wine and seemed genuinely interested in our getting the perfect compliment to our meal.  The food was FANTASTIC!  Every dish was better than the last.  I highly recommend the tuna tartare although I can't say any of the dishes missed the mark.  We all shared two desserts which were different and extremely tasty.  If the Bananas Foster happens to be a special the night you are there, don't miss it. After a filling meal, two bottles of wine and two fantastic deserts we got the biggest surprise of the night.  We got the check and were shocked at how low it was.  This dinner had the feel of a "special night out" restaurant but the price of a "we should come here more often" type place.  The funny thing was that even as we sat at our table, the people at the next table were already making reservations to come back even though they had not finished their meal!  I feel like I stumbled on to a hidden gem.  I highly recommend you check it out before it becomes one of those "impossible to get into" places.

I can't tell you how excited I am that this place opened in Monroe. Thrilled, really. I live in the city and my boyfriend lives in Monroe. We would always go to the same boring places for a drink and all I wanted was a good place where we could drink good wine. Well, this place hit the nail on the head. We went with a couple of friends for some bottles of wine late at night and it was a wonderful, relaxing experience. I honestly thought I wasn't in Monroe. We were all ecstatic. The service was phenomenal. The kitchen was closed but they offered us an amazing cheese plate which was generous and delicious. I cannot wait to come back over and over again and try their food. Everyone should go!
