So far, so good at the Goat. Â After several meals, we've found a nice, dependable spot for a casual dinner. Â We've tried burgers, wings, chick sandwiches, fish n chips (DH LOVED 'EM). Â The fries are FANTASTIC! Â The bar area is cuter than the table area; the formica table tops and steel frame chairs wreck the ambiance of the latter.
Of course, the beer selection is fun and the prices are right!
The Gabby Goat is a great new hangout for Effingham. Â It can handle groups of people or just couples. Â It does get VERY LOUD in there due to the number of customers. Â There a several TV's for watching the game. Â The nachos are outstanding! Â There are many craft beers on tap but I wish they had Bud Light on tap also. Â I love draft beer when I go to a bar and it is not available there. Â But I can get it in a can which is I like (I hate bottle beer). Â All in all, this is a great place to hang and I hope it lasts a long time.
Review Source:Stopped by the Gabby Goat for some drinks and appetizers while in Effingham overnight. Â The atmosphere was great, the beer selection was even better. Â I tried the Nachos with fajita chicken and they were everything I wanted them to be plus more. Â They make their own queso cheese sauce and its really good and the chicken was really seasoned well (kinda sweet and hot). Â They were going to have a band play but I left before they began. Â I would stop by there again on my way to St. Louis and get a full meal next time. Â Definitely a recommended stop!
Review Source:The Gabby Goat is a nice addition to the Effingham area. The town was in need of a place to get some good grub and a craft beer. This place has been many other businesses in the past. It originally began as the Greyhound bus station, then was turned into a bar and grill in the mid 90's called The Ole' Grey Dog. I actually tended bar and helped open a pizza section in a part of the place. It then transferred from owner to owner remaining a bar/restaurant of some sort.
With a remodel and a change of pace in their beer selection, this place has become a local favorite. The bar is separated from the "dining" area and provides room to hang out with friends and have a great night out. The setup allows for people to see and be seen.
The menu has some tasty treats on it as well. Standard bar fare, but with a little added "love" put in each dish. The service is attentive and quick. The waitstaff actually has electronic ordering pads they place the order right from your table; pretty fancy for the Effingham area. Our server was very good about explaining the specials and the promotions they had going on at that time. She didn't half-ass tell us about them either; she explained them thoroughly and quickly.
Being a local for most of my life, I'm glad to finally see some better choices in Effingham. Keep up the good work. I'll be sure to visit when I'm in town!
