Worst food we've had in a long time, everything seemed bottled, frozen or canned. The waitress was terrible, not knowledgable at all about what was in the food. If you have any dietary issues (for three of our party of four we were trying to find something that would not have gluten in it) good luck wringing any information out of the wait staff. Sorry, but not only that, it was expensive and we had gut-aches afterwards. Won't be going back.
Review Source:While on business, a couple professionals in my field and I met up for a dinner date for business and the like. Â They suggested their regular haunt, the Gavel. Â
This is your typical, small-town-downtown diner(ish) family restaurant. Â It's the kind of place out-of-towners glide right past, while locals have their butt imprints molded into their favorite vinyl booth or table. Â
Wine is available but since this was work I just enjoyed a water with my salad and strip steak.
There's really not that much to say: Â The salad was crisp and cold and tasted great. The steak was thinner than I hoped but cooked perfectly (medium-rare, as requested) and had lots of flavor . I've had the same steak a million times before, at a place just like this, and I always enjoy it. Â The service was fast, courteous if not overly friendly and the place was clean. Â My only complaint was cigarette smoke wafting over from the lounge. Â It was a little obnoxious...
I think we ended up below $50 with tip for 3, no booze. Â Worth a visit.
