My wife and I honeymooned here 3 years ago. Â We were looking to get away from the crowds and just hang out by ourselves and that's exactly what we got. Â The cabin we stayed in, the King, was nicely appointed. Â Through the front windows we had an AWESOME view of the ridges leading up to Dolly Sods, and we enjoyed all the amenities like a private hot tub out back, big shower and the big porch. Â Ron and Rella, the owners, were great at meeting all of our needs as well. Â If you get a chance, chat with Ron over a drink about how he came to own a set of cabins in West Virginia; he's had quite the life so far.
Please note: I will say that one potential issue for folks could be the food. Â When we went the restaurant across the field in the barn wasn't that great (not terrible, just not notable either). Â The big problem here is that there's not really any restaurants or even grocery stores until you get about 25 minutes down the road (there's a Shop 'N' Save in Davis). Â So, come to Golden Anchor, but come with a cooler stocked up with and use the kitchen in your cabin. Â Because the restaurant wasn't stellar, I've gotta give 4 stars.
For local activities we recommend checking out Dolly Sods for some hiking, horseback riding at a farm toward Davis (I forget the name but we had a blast) and maybe driving to see Seneca Rocks and even Spruce Knob. Â On our last morning we actually drove 3.5 hours away and did white water rafting with ACE on the New River. Â Super long day but totally worth it.
If you're looking to just get away from everyone, relax and enjoy the great outdoors, Golden Anchor hits the spot.
My wife and I just returned from a two night stay at the Honeymoon Royale cabin. Â I expected the cabins to be hidden in the woods, but the property is right off the main road. Â They are exceptionally quiet, however. Â The main office was not indicated off the driveway, but we guessed (correctly) that the restaurant with the same name also contained the front desk. Â An older gentleman greeted us and gave us a few tips regarding the cabin. Â Service was friendly and personal. Â The cabin was amazing. Â I didn't expect so many small luxuries such as heated flooring in the bathroom and full body jets in the shower. Â There was a full kitchen, Bose sound system, and satellite TV. Â There really was everything and more we expected. Â I took off a star due to no internet access and the owners requesting the guests remove and prep the dirty linens and remove their own trash. Â I don't mind the work, but a five star resort would be expected to do everything for the guests. Â For a getaway in the mountains, it doesn't get much better than this.
