After a long hike in Idyllwild with my dad, it was time for a little treat. Â
Goodtimes was recommended by a store clerk in town, so we figured we would give "The Best Burger on the Hill" a shot. Â I got the patty melt with swiss with a side of sweet potato fries, and dad got the Ortega burger with sweet potato fries.
I am usually not a big fan of hamburger meat, but this place could change me! Â One of the best patties I have ever had. Â The patty melt was the perfect combination of meat, onions, mushrooms, swiss cheese, and rye bread. Â The fries (although I have had better, I have to admit) we very good as well, and just made the patty melt that much better. Â Dad's burger looked amazing, and he said it tasted even better. Â I haven't tried any other burgers in Idyllwild, so I can't say it it is the best on the hill, but I am willing to bet it is!
Service was some of the best. Â Our waitress was super friendly, was very accommodating, and made sure she took care of my dog as well. Â She brought out a water bowl for him, and the owner brought out a milk bone and became instant friends with my puppy. Â
Goodtimes is a great place all together!
My wife and I hike a lot and we take a liking to finding a good place that serves good burgers and cold beer after long treks through the mountains. Â This September (2012) we hiked to Apache peak out of Idyllwild and then down the PCT for a few miles. Â We through on the Chacos after the hike and wanted to find someplace good to eat. Â The sign out front said "Best Burgers in Idyllwild."
We went in and it was an awesome old restaurant with a super nice older lady and man who ran the joint. Â The beers were cold and 28 ounces. Â I had a BBQ bacon cheeseburger with onion rings. Â The porch was great as it sat off the main highway (little traffic) and the smell of pine trees and mountain air filled the atmosphere. Â
It is a great place to unwind after hiking San Jacinto and the Tahquitz/Apache mountain ranges.
"Pushy owners, dirty tables and chairs"
Went there and was seated on the patio--the white plastic chairs were covered with dirt and greasy finger prints--we placed an order--the  woman who owns the place had on a sweater that was covered in pet hair and pushed us to eat desert--all we wanted to do was pay the bill and get out. NOT the place to go if you expect cleanliness.
