You have to expect a little quirkiness from a place called, "Sea Hag."  If you're looking for white linen and snobby waiters, this probably isn't the place for you. From the spinach salad (with crab & shrimp), to baked oysters, to halibut fish & chips, we thought the food was great. The waiters were like friendly extras from, "Spinal Tap." The large photos on the wall look to be from that same era (1984). This place may not go to 11, but it's a solid choice for seafood.

Omg... I love this place! I have to admit, at first, I was a little hesitant to eat at a place where "Hag" was part of the name, but I was pleasantly surprised!

I ordered the 4 piece cod fish and chips, the portions were huge, so come hungry! The fish is beer battered and delicious, and the tarter sauce was so good, I asked for some to go! The clam chowder was good too!

If you get seated by the window, you get an ocean view!

This place rocks and can't wait to go again!

Oysters from a jar!?!?!?!?  How is that possible given the location of this restaurant?  Served with cocktail sauce and 2 black olives (?)  Had to get our own crackers and lemons - which still could not save the oysters which were tasteless, obviously canned and rinsed - let's face it "texture" isn't the oysters' selling point.

    Service was terrible.

    Amazing clam chowder.

Will not be returning. Ever. Not even for the amazing clam chowder.

The service was good. The chowder was tasty, the kids Mac & Cheese got raves from my 5yr old, however the Neptune Platter was not what we expected. Maybe it's better fried, than it is sautéed.
Decent drunk and wine menu. But all in all not someplace to return to for dinner, maybe lunch

Always a must stop when we are in the area. Nothing fancy but always good. The clam chowder is excellent (Sorry Moes) Atmosphere is down home fishing town. Prices are reasonable and portions are plenty. Try the Halibut.
After dinner or lunch take a walk over  the bridge and check out the harbor. This is where Jack Nicholson took the nuts fishing on "One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest".

Yep.  It's good.  The bar is fun and lively.  The food is very good -- I had a lightly crusted halibut fillet and a cup of very good clam chowder -- husband had the fish and chips.  The fish batter was light and crispy, and the pieces of cod were tender and perfect.

In the winter, the fireplace is cozy and welcoming -- no complaints.

The food over all is nothing trail blazing -- but it doesn't have to be.  It's good.  That's good enough.  And it faces one of the best ocean views in the US -- hard to complain too much about paradise.

We arrived at Depo bay after driving 6 hours in crazy weather condition. I really did think anything would have been good. A local referred us to this joint and it was a as good as suggestion can get.

A nice fireplace in the back of the bar calls for a nice group gathering and you feel almost like you are on a ship.

The food wasn't the best, but the beer selection was good.  Ninkasi IPA on tap. The food will fill your belly after a few good beers, and you won't care anymore if it is not the best.  To be fair, their general dinner salad was great.  It has beets, walnuts, and blue cheese.  The basic goods.  I ordered salmon and chips and it did the job.

When I return to Depo Bay, I will definitely return to this establishment.  Great service and relaxing environment.  The price is right as well.

Food was okay, not the best, not the worst. Only really bad thing were the obnoxious people in the lounge already trashed at 2pm who were extremely loud.

Food was good, good chowder. But very slow & inattentive service. Calamari was good. Normal bar food quality.

The service was fast and friendly, but the food was almost completely tasteless. And I mean DISTURBINGLY tasteless. I had a $23 combo platter that included a variety of seafood.  To be honest, I have eaten better food for less than half the cost. I have to assume that they rely on tourist traffic and zero repeat business. Blah.

The restaurant decor is very humble. The seating area is small. Wooden tables, booth seating and fish photo decor.
I have a problem with seafood restaurants smelling fishy upon entry, but luckily it didn't have this over powering scent.

Our waitress was extremely sweet, patient and very knowledgable.
I ordered the Ribeye steak with baked potato, a cup of clam chowder, and a blended margarita.

We were served bread and clam chowder first, and didn't have to wait long, since we had gone during peak dinner hour.

    The clam chowder was superior!!
The Rib eye steak was full of flavor, easy to cut, and absolutely delicious.
The potato was regular sized. I did ask for extra butter and sour cream, which our waitress forgot. I did ask her two times and still no extra's, but the food was still very enjoyable.

The margarita was fantastic, very strong, and not diluted with sweet and sour.

This was a wonderful meal and my number one restaurant from now on when I visit
    Depot Bay!!!

The eggs were perfectly poached for the Eggs Benedict.
That's difficult to find, and worth mentioning!
    Prompt and friendly service.

Clam chowder was bland and there was approximately one clam in the entire bowl. Dungeoness crab cocktail was small and not awesome for the price. The place has some great old 70s photo fishing posters on the walls which I enjoyed looking at. The service was good. The Cosmo was average. Probably won't go back.

Oh, I love the quirkiness of establishment..and hey, the clam chowder was damn good!!!!

The Conn man grew up in the Northwest and used to come here as a kid, so as part of our roadtrip this time around up here was to check out this spot. He ain't a foodie, but this place was worth it.

Love the menu as it provided random Q&A that even my non-mensa brain could answer (sorry, had to take a jab at the mensa-spouse ;)). Also, they serve breakfast here w/ quite a spread, but I was here mainly for the seafood.

We're in a fishing town, so gotta get some fresh seafood options, even if they're upcharging. I opted for the half crab, steamed. Basic fixings that come with it: melted butter or cocktail sauce along with a loaf of bread to eat with the crab. Crab meat had a hint of sweetness in it, which I loved! I had mine with a cup of their clam chowder. Dude, their clam chowder nailed it here-- as good as ones you'd find in Boston. Sure, it was a $25 lunch for myself. Was it worth it: to me, yes, and I still got full!

    What a spunky little joint.

A fun menu that offers your typical beach food with a seafood emphasis. There are some really nice fresh dishes on the menu - especially crab - but be ready to pay. If you're not packing your wallet, go with the fried seafood. I ordered the veggie burger. That's my fall back at joints like these. BUT, I asked the waiter what the patty was made of... he wen't to ask the kitchen... result = they didn't know!

Dum Dumb Dummm - huge problem for a restaurant kitchen. If you don't know what your food is made of, you shouldn't be serving it. Grocery aisles can serve me better.

Luckily, I liked the vibe of this place, along with the chowder. That made my experience a wee bit better. The chowder is way worth ordering and can be substituted as a side. Order it!

The hags are out and the verdict is in... good place to stop to experience the culture of the town and enjoy a hearty bowl of chowder.

    Haglicious.

I have always liked this place.  I usually come here for eggs neptune, a wonderful bay shrimp breakfast omelette with hollandaise.  today?  I had dinner.   a wonderful halibut and salmon braid, with crab and shrimp, with a delicious homemade fettucini alfredo.  the soup/chowder, fabulous, and so was the salad bar.

this place is stand up.   and the drinks are good too!

I was here three days ago.  My son, who loves chowder, said this was the best he's had.  I thought it was very good as well.  I had the english muffin with crab and shrimp.  It was fabulous.

No hags were harmed in the making of this review.

Basic waterfront seafood place on the main street. We both opted for the fish & chips special, which was actually three large pieces of rock cod. Enjoyed the first 2.5 pieces but couldn't quite make it after that... Fries were fine but a bit soggy.

Reasonable prices, good service considering the summer rush and they appeared to be a bit short-staffed. The adjoining tavern had live music going, if we weren't tuckered out we would have joined in the fun.

On my first visit I had the Monte Cristo, it was so good on my second and third visit I also had the Monte Cristo.  Typical oceanside restuarant decor, service was on par.  I also enjoyed their tartar sauce (I like to dip my fries in it).  I purchased one of their t-shirts, good quality at a reasonable price.

We stumbled upon this YUMMY little place when we stayed at Moolack Shores Motel about 4 miles North of Newport.  The owner of the Motel suggested we go there for dinner when we asked what restaurants he might recommend, we wanted seafood!  It happened to be on a Friday night and they had the all you can eat buffet on Friday's... heck yea!!!  We LOVED the food and the town and little shops there in Depoe are so adorable and inviting as well.  Had to go back recently and check those out too!  If you want wonderful seafood at a great price, you won't be disappointed!  Can't wait to go back again next time I'm over that way!

I was told about this place in a store while I was in line to checkout..  The lady asked me where I was going and I told her Depot Bay..The man behind me said GO TO this place for the best clam chowder...We did and it did not dissappoint! Probably the best Clam Chowder I have ever had...  We had it in a bread bowl and could not eat it all because we were sooo full...
Also great for kids,  after the meal they get to pick out a shell to take home!

"I only play with his ass hole on special occasions, like Labor day, or his mother's Birthday."

"We like to role play.  Like the other night we pretended we were a bird and a fish."

"A Conga line?  I've been waiting all night for you to ask."

    "Let me Instagram this moment."

A girls weekend at the beach always inspires some truly spectacular conversational gems. A birthday at the Sea Hag inspires an epic conga line.

The girls and I headed in here for Candace M.'s birthday one weekend and basically gorged ourselves on great seafood and even better conversation.  The menu is extensive, offering every manner of seafood imaginable.  If you can't make your mind up, they offer an assorment of seafood stuffed into other seafood so you can try it all.

Candace M. and Jaime L. started out with the clam chowder, which they said was awesome, and I know is awesome, because I stole a bite; who wouldn't?  Crystal M. and I opted for the house salad which was huge and chock full of assorted veggies; even beets :)  It wouldn't be a complete seafood dinner without oyster shots, which were so big Crystal almost choked on hers and gave up.

Candace went with the shrimp and crab stuffed salmon which she said was spectacular, Crystal opted for the fried halibut and chips which were huge (she definitely went home with left-overs), and Jaime and I both opted for our own orders of clams which was stupid of us as they were so plentiful we couldn't even begin to finish half of our orders or even look at our side dishes.  On a side note, the alfredo that everyone at the table ordered at their side dish, came out room temperature to the touch, and stuck solid to the dish they came in as though they were made ahead of time and left out to sit.  This was the only problem with the meal at all, though.  The rest was absolutely spectacular.

The place, itself, is super fun as well.  The restaurant side looked pretty sparse so we opted for the bar side, which had planty of seating; there was even a tabletop curving around a fire pit in the middle of the bar.  There was live music and a few people doing some version of the Jitter Bug.  I've heard that some nights you can convince some of the staff to play music on crystal glasses, but we weren't that lucky.  Toward the end of the night the entire place joined in for a Conga line and mini dance party to honor Candace's birthday.  This place is adorable, delicious and the perfect place to end a girls weekend.

I've been to Gracie's at least a couple times now and on my last visit, the clam chowder was just okay. It used to be great and super delicious. What a bummer. Besides the downgrade clam chowder, my Salmon & Chips was pretty delicious.
Jesse had the Oyster and chips. It was pretty tasty as well.

I really suggest this place for dinner than lunch. I like the atmosphere here better during dinner time. They also serve all you can eat seafood every Friday night. Next time, we will drive down there on Friday night so we can get there on time for the buffet.

It's one of those places you just have to visit. The atmosphere is colorful, to say the least. You never know what could happen at Gracie's Sea Hag! I love the funky seaside decor, the booths in the bar area, the fire pit, and the bar games. If you're looking for a more laid-back experience, I recommend the restaurant.

In my mind, however, the only reason to come here is for the fun. The food is okay but nothing to write home about. Granted, I've only been here once. My mom and I both had a cup of chowder. It was good but certainly not the best the Oregon coast has to offer. Not even close. The fish and chips were so-so, not the worst but not the best either.

They have a full bar and a good beer selection, however, so getting a good drink here is easy to do. We also split a Ceasar's salad which, surprisingly, was the best thing we ate. The dressing was spot on and may have been homemade. The lettuce was crisp and the croutons were crunchy. Really delish.

Gracie made an appearance while we were there, playing the bottles behind the bar as only she can. Caused quite a stir. That's what this place is all about!

Some other people may not care for this place as much as I do, but I've seldom come across better seafood in the course of my thirty two years of life. As a qualifier, I don't usually seek seafood out due to having an adverse reaction to fishes natural oil. As a result I have a healthy aversion to it.

But the Seahag is a fond memory from childhood. My parents always used to stop and eat here if they could. Everything they serve ranges from 'pretty good' to 'the best on the coast.'

Their prices are about what you'd expect from a tourist town. Their burgers, sandwiches and their incredible chowder bowls are affordable, and they have many higher end seafood dishes as well to choose from.

The only real downside to the restaurant is their somewhat dated decor. Some people call it contrived, though I think that's a stretch. The restaraunts been open since the sixties and the decor simply reflects that.

Overall it's a great stopover for couples or families to have something tasty which won't completely rape the wallet without having to resort to Moes.

This place is listed on Yelp under three variations of the same name. Just so you'll know.

The Sea Hag has been one of our Oregon Coast favorites for many years. Though the food quality and preparation have steadily declined for some time now, it's still pretty good.

We stopped in for breakfast this morning as nothing much else was open on this mile or so stretch, in Depot Bay, at 8AM+/-. Service has always been consistently good here, so it was not surprising that out server, Bonnie, was on her game this morning.

SWMBO ordered Bacon and Eggs with Hash Browns and an English Muffin. I chose the 3 Egg Omelette with Dry Rye Toast and Crisp Hash Browns. Everything was good apart from my "Crisp" Hash Browns with were limp and soggy and looked exactly like Carol's. Bonnie clearly remembered me ordering them Crisp, so I must infer it was a case of a cook who doesn't (or didn't, in this case) follow instructions.

Note: They have no Orange Marmalade.

We had breakfast here one morning while on our mini-vacation to the Oregon Coast.  The food was really good and very affordable.  Our waiter was very attentive.

If you like clam chowder, this is the place to go. I was expecting the clam chowder to be "good" from what I had heard, but I didn't expect it to be the best clam chowder I've ever had. You salty, beautiful Sea Hag, you.

I wish I had ordered a bowl of chowder instead of a cup. After I was done I kept gazing forlornly into my cup, as if I was expecting more clam chowder to magically appear. Shortly after I finished, my meal came. I ordered the oysters and chips, and my boyfriend ordered the halibut and chips. The oysters were good, though small. My boyfriend said the halibut was "okay".

Come for the chowder, leave happy. :)

Came back on Friday night for their all-you-can-eat buffet.  I recall they only have the buffet on Friday nights--so definitely check up on that before heading out on a Tuesday...

The buffet consisted of a variety of fish and seafood dishes, maybe 10-12 different selections.

You go here for the seafood.  Lots of it.  All you can stand.  And I say that lovingly, cause I can stand a LOT.

Tonight's buffet had steamed Yaquina Bay Oysters and clams, popcorn shrimp, fried fish (battered, cod I think), a cajun fish and spiral pasta dish, salmon with some kind of creamy crab sauce (heavenly!) and more.

I'm NOT an oyster lover.  In fact I've never met an oyster I've liked.  Until this buffet.  Those were some REALLY good oysters and I'll freely admit I had 3 plates of them (you can only fit about 4 on a plate--and there's only about a tablespoon of "meat" in each but I couldn't stop!!!)

The fried cod was not greasy and still reasonably crisp.  For buffet fish it was very good.  If I'd ordered that on a plate of fish and chips I probably wouldn't have been that impressed, but given that it was buffet style it was probably the best quality I've had in a buffet.  The clams were excellent.  The salmon with creamy crab sauce was heavenly (though my brain did step in after the second helping and remind me that as a general guideline I'm trying not to consume 4000-calorie meals...).

$25 a person.  The quantity of oysters alone was worth that--but I got a whole buffet out of it.  Three of us, $75, and we were all very pleased at the quality and quantity.

Don't go there for the salad--it's literally assorted chopped iceberg and four plastic bottles of dressing to choose from, along with a couple small vats of corn and peas.  But really, who goes to a seafood buffet for the salad anyway?

Loved it.  We'll definitely be back.

Walk into Gracie's and you'll be transported back into the 70's. Wooded panel along the wall.
Our waitress was friendly and everyone seemed to have worked there for decades, very appealing in some strange way.
The portions are enormous. Be prepare to walk out with a doggie bag.
The menu is very typical of coastal community.

Stopped here for lunch on the way to the Wine Festival in Newport, OR this past weekend.  I had a cup of the clam chowder, which they are known for and it was very very delicious.  Creamy with a dollop of butter in the middle...really tasty!  I also had the fish and chips with rock cod and it was so fresh it practically melted in my mouth and did not taste fishy at all.  They are on the coast, after all.  My wife had the seared halibut and she shared a few bites with me and I can tell you the halibut was also flaky and perfectly prepared and it definitely was fresh.  The garlic bread sticks that came with our meals were tasty too.  The service was excellent with water and sodas refilled on a regular basis.

I am giving this 5 stars because the service was great, food was awesome, the portions were big and filling and I wouldn't eat anywhere else in Depoe Bay!!!  I will definitely be going there again next time I'm down the coast!

This has consistently been one of my favorite places on the Oregon Coast.
Food is great.  Atmosphere and staff are comfortable and friendly.  Everything you'd expect from a small town establishment with food that rivals any fancy Pearl District restaurant.

    Try the Salmon/Halibut braid.
I prefer the atomosphere of the bar over the actual restaurant.

Breakfast has many seafood items not found on the usual breakfast menu.

Whenever I'm in the area this is my first stops to eat. I can't say that I have tried anything on the menu other than fish & chips and the chowder, because the chowder is out of this world. Easily the best chowder I have ever had, and this is coming from a guy who is snobby about his chowder! The fish & chips were good, but not anything revolutionary.

My girlfriend and I both love this place and so has anyone we have recommended it to. Sea Hag come for the chowder, stay for the.....Well, chowder.

My paternal grandparents are "Grandma and Grandpa" and maternal grandparents are "Granny and Papa".  My folks both take the stance that they cannot be called either of these names when the time comes for something more than "Mom and Dad".  So my sister and I last summer (under the exposure of a week of 115 degree Wyoming weather) decided that our future tykes will be calling them "The Admiral and the Sea Hag"

Oh yeah, they loved that one.  But until they suggest something better, it's what they're stuck with.

Fast forward to this summer while walking down the main stretch of Depoe Bay, I think Amanda spotted the sign first: "MOM! It's YOU!" We both cackled as she stood under the restaurant logo and took her picture.  Dad looked at the menu and said "hmm... wanna try it?"  and we figured, what the heck, why not?

Turns out it was the best clam chowder we had on the coast, great smoked salmon, and some mean fish n' chips.  The atmosphere is tattered but tidy, the waitresses nice but so busy that they were absent most of the time.   Next time I'm in town I'd consider bypassing the commercialized and gentrified dining spots for some good down-home cooking that is the Sea-Hag.

Or as we've started calling it: "Mom's Place"

For 23 years there has been a place on the Oregon Coast with Chowder so good I always regard it as my Calibration Chowder.
(That means I compare all others to it - and they are usually lacking...)

No, this special pace is not Mo's.   Let the tourists go there...
so they'll stay outta our real-deal cozy Oregon places.

It's Gracie's.  Tucked in next to the Deep Sea Fishing launch mini-harbor at Depoe Bay, the Sea Hag Chowder is thick and creamy, with healthy butter and bits of all the goodies you've ever hoped would be in your Chowder.

In contrast to MANY other places,
here a bowl of Chowder IS a meal.
    Total nourishing comfort food.

     I'd have it for breakfast.

    And in 2009 -
    Gracie's will be non-smoking, yay-hoo!

Slow down when coming to Depoe Bay or you'll miss it...
and that'd be a dang shame.

    Re:  My Calibration Chowder...

Sounds like a Micro-brewed Beer name, doesn't it?
good guess. Now you know something more about me...
    I'm a competition Beer Judge!

    Beer goes great with Chowder...
and better than wine - with most foods.
    So there.

I completely agree with Jenn G. on this one, the Sea Hag is definitely an Oregon coast must if you're searching for authenticity.

I came here with the fraternity Beta Theta Pi for a date function weekend dinner, we all got very shnazied out and had a wonderful meal with good food, drink, and service.

With a name like Sea Hag...how could you not go...just to see it for yourself!

Tagline:  "Food so fresh the sea doesn't know its missing"

I don't think any other restaurant can make such a claim!  I'm giving this joint a solid 3 stars on the food and entertainment and then plus one for having the best tagline around.

On my motorcycle trip down Highway 101 last 4th of July I rested my very sore ass inside this little gem.  Had some great clam chowder and since I was done riding for the day I had me a big 'ol burger and fries.  The food is NOT spectacular in anyway shape or form (but, man does it just seem to hit the spot after 350 miles on a Harley).  It's slightly (see incredibly small space between thumb and index finger) above average and they pretty much do it all here.  They got burgers, sandwiches, steaks, all things seafood, salads, breakfasts and pastas just to name a few!  Note: almost everything here is "world famous" too!

Speaking of famous... Gracie, the Sea Hag herself, is a bit of a local celebrity.  Almost every night, as the dinner rush slows down and the night crowd starts to head over to the "bar" side of the house, Gracie grabs a pair of xylophone mallets and starts up on her "world famous" playing of the bottles.

You haven't lived until you've heard "Louie, Louie" being belted out on some vodka and rum bottles.

Gracie's Sea Hag is your one stop shop for all things food, liquor and music.
