What a dump. Â The parking was terrible. Â We BARELY found a spot in the lot. Â Despite my opinion of the place, it is clearly really popular with the locals.
I am told this place was something, once upon a time, but that ship has sailed, in my opinion. Â It's like a poor man's Chuck E Cheese with arcade games lining the walls. Â Unattended kids were crawling all over. Â I was expecting a bar atmosphere, but it is definitely not that anymore, although there is a full bar in the back.
They serve Blue Moon by the pitcher, and the steak nachos were outstanding, way ABOVE my expectation for bar food. Â It looks like they serve a lot of pizza there, but I didn't try any.
They do karaoke on Thursday nights, which is why we were there with our karaoke-enthusiast friends. Â No complains there. Â The karaoke system was well run, and kids and adults alike were participating. Â Again, not quite the bar atmosphere I was expecting, but being family-friendly isn't a bad thing.
The problem, however, is that although there were A LOT of screaming kids there, there was also the unmistakable scent of pot wafting out of the ladies room, which diminishes the family-friendly vibe for me.
So, I guess I'm just confused by this place. Â Is it for kids? Â For adults? Â It seems like it kinda wants to be a bar, but it's like a bar you can bring your kids to. Â Classy.
I haven't been here in a while, but in the past everything was great. Â They have cheap pitchers of beer, great burgers and fries. Â I like that they have a salad/sides type bar where I can add lettuce tomatoes, etc to my burger. Â I'm a huge veggie person so I hate when I only get one tiny piece of lettuce and a slice of tomato. Â They also have different sauces to add to your meal.
It's a very casual place, tables are picnic style, and you can always find interesting people there. Don't expect anything fancy, but it is a chill place to hang out, drink with friends and watch a game. Theyhave many tvs for games and game machines for kids or adults too!
For students from UOP, they accept pacific cash here!
food quality went waaaaay down! used to have the best wings, now have the worst!!!! manager on duty thursday at noon talked crap under his breath while giving a refund. cooks were dirty looking and very unfriendly. have their games didnt work. i used to love this place but will never come back!
Review Source:We stopped going for 8 months because of a creep working the cash register that is annoying and always has something to stay. Â We came back to give it another shot and he is still working there? Â He must be the owners kid or sleeping with the owner. Â We will not go back just because of his attitude. Â It is too bad because the pizza and wings are actually half way edible when your blood pressure comes down from the crappy customer service from the cashier. Â He has to be killing the business because at 7 pm on a Saturday night, there was 4 customers!
Review Source:Good place to watch UFC fights and sports games. It has plenty of tvs and a short list of beer and a lot of liquor on the shelf. The crowd isn't too bad on a Saturday night (surprisingly) and that was on a big fight night. The parking lot is small and plenty of grub from the kitchen if you're hungry. A lot of CHP/Stockton PD on that road too so I wouldn't be driving and drinking at all.
Review Source:Horrible service. Waited while the cashier chatted with her friend for 3 min. Then got on the phone for personal phone call. The food took 20 min for a chicken sandwich and a tri tip sandwich. The bread was cold and limp. The chicken was devoid of flavor and the tri tip was a hunk of rare meat stuck in bread. The fries tasted store bought. I guess this place would be cool for watching sports though the tvs are pretty small. For the ufc its a 8 cover charge.
Review Source:The Grauduate is OK.
Their pizza honestly is nothing special, is WAYY overpriced, and sorta greasy if you ask me. The place is messy (you'll ALWAYS see stuff on the floors), has a juke-box and arcade games everywhere, and is good for the kids...besides the full bar. This is definitely a family/hang out sort of spot. Picture a giant room with a bunch of long public park style wooden picnic tables with benches to eat at. That's the Graduate. Definitely not a place you'd come to to impress a date or have amazing food.
My biggest gripe is the fact that you have to wait at the bar (where there's NEVER more than one bartender working) to order a friggin drink. There's not waiter service. You order all of your drinks from the bar, which could take forever and a day for him/her to help you, depending on how busy they are. Even for just WATER! Ridiculous! The same goes for food. You go up to the register to order, you wait at your table, and they'll call your name over the loudspeaker to come get your food.
I will say that this is a pretty good spot for a really big group of pople due to the way it's set up. People have a lottt of party-type gatherings here. Birthday parties for kids and get togethers with families are really common here. You're also GUARANTEED to run into at least one person you know from school or work when you eat here, it never fails! I nicknamed it the "reunion"s spot. It happens every time!
The boyfriend and I stopped here to check out the end of the women's World Cup finals. No one greeted us so after a minute or two, we parked ourselves at one of the tables close to a TV. Looking around, we definitely stood out. We were the only two people that were not a) covered in tattoos or b) candidate for early onset type II diabetes. The place looked like a beer hall, replete with the long wooden tables and gothic looking "chandeliers". Definitely an odd setting for Stockton.
We were a bit confused on how to order since no waiter approached us to give us a menu. After much investigation, it turned out that we have to go to the cash register to order. We also needed to order alcohol separately at the bar. I got the chef salad, with swiss, cheddar, ham and turkey and the boyfriend got the chicken sandwich. I was pretty flabbergasted by the size of the salad -- it was a variable mount of cheese and meat atop iceberg lettuce. There's a condiment bar next to our table where the dressings were stored. The waitress warned me that the Italian vinaigrette is in low supply because it's not very popular. I guess that explains why the patrons are so jolly looking.
The place is corny, but I could see it being a very fun place to watch a game. The next time we need to stop on the way back from Tahoe to catch a game, I will certainly remember the Graduate.
If you have never been to the Graduate you're in for a surprise. You would think a place like this dies long ago with Naughty Nick's if anyone can remember that place. Sports dominate the flat screens on the wall and arcade and crane games still have a place in this world. The tables are long wooden picnic benches, which is a nice touch with the wooden lacquered walls.
Everyday a different special plate, I especially like the ribs special. For an inexpensive price you get 3 BBQ Ribs with 2 sides, my sides are French Fries and Chili.
Best Happy Hour in town hands down just because it's Monday through Friday and most places exclude a Friday. My weapon of choice is a 32 oz. Guinness a meal in itself.
By the time I leave, work has been done and happy hour a success.
This place is so and so. When I go there I really don't go for the food I just go to have a few drinks with friends. They have a lot of big t.vs so you can watch your favorite game on plus you can't never go wrong with one dollar beer night. I do recommend this though just don't wear anything blue if you want to make it to your car in the parking lot. This is defiantly not a place to bring your wife or sancha/sancho to or even a first date. It is way to loud. Only thing I ever order from there is the basket of fries since it looks like that is the only thing they're able to make just right. So if you're into gangsters and bland food and great beer then come on down this is the place for you
Review Source:Aside from the *super* hot drunk 65 year olds in hot pants and halter tops (no bra...) gettin' their flirt on with the bearded hells angels....the pizza is good!
we will definitely be getting pizza from here again...TO GO.
(one annoying nuance of this place.- you can't order a drink at the "food window". you have to go to the bar..so to get a soda with your pizza you have to wade through the riff raff to get your drinks....and whip out your wallet for a 2nd transaction...
I remember going here as a kid and had soccer parties here. Â It brought back a lot of great memories. Â We happen to be there on $1 beer night which was sweet. Â I didn't get a chance to have the food. Â But I can only assume it's similar to bar food. Â The place was about 1/2 filled will young people playing in the arcade and the parents sitting at the bar. Â
I can't help but really enjoy this place. Â It's really diverse and kinda fun to just hang out w/ a good group of friends.
VEggie Friendly: Â Beer! Yes!
This place is rugged. Nothing fancy going on in here. Come here after a hard day of work and eat cheap decent food and get DRUNK!
When I was younger I use to think the food was great here. As I got older I realized how average the food is, but who cares about enjoying the food here? I come here to get DRUNK! Drink more and drink again and again. Maybe watch some sports while I get DRUNK!
3 1/2
Ok. Still 3 1/2 but now it gets the round up. Came back again and I like hanging out here. The drinks are good and it seems to always be interesting. Good place to hang out with you friends. We came here late when it was practically empty so it was nice to not have to scream at each other either. The place is growing on me. Still have to try a gradburger though. I think that is the real test for if its a solid 4 stars.
I have been going to the Graduate for so long I can remember when it had pool tables.
I was visiting for a couple days and being the life-long Giants fan I am I needed a place in Stockton to watch the possible clinching of the first World Series in a half century by my beloved team somewhere in Stockton.
I decided on the Graduate.
Total right move.
We got there a couple minutes before the pre-game and stayed until after the final out. Â We were probably there three hours. Â They had the game on the bigger of their two huge projection TVs that fill up a whole big wall.
By the way they had the World Series on one TV and Monday Night Football on the other. Â Are you serious? Â This is Northern California and no one cared about football this night...total stupid decision on the part of management. Â
Still it was an awesome place to watch the game. Â The food was great, the people who were working for the most part were really friendly and I got to see the Giants win the World Series with like 100+ other fans who were as excited as I was.
:0)
I come here because it's close to my boyfriends house.
It a good place for parties but you have to get there early because you technically cannot reserve a table from what I've been told.
Great place to hangout with friends for beer and pizza and TVs everywhere.
The only thing I dislike about this place is the bread they use for my BLT it's too damn hard and every time I ask for a different bread they seem to be out of it.
They have daily specials listed on the board and some of them are pretty cheap and filling.
The Graduate is a Stockton institution at this point. If you're a local and grew up in the area, you no doubt have memories coming here as a child and begging your drunk Dad, Uncle, Nino, etc for more quarters to play video games while they polished off a pitcher (drunk people drop quarters like leprechauns). A secondary memory is coming here as a teen and sneaking a few underage drinks while an NFL, NBA, MLB playoff game played in the background. This is followed by the memory of coming here on a Friday after work for Happy to look at all the young "baby mama's" in attendance that night (this is like going out to a club for some of them).
This place definitely has a pulse when it comes to big sporting events/playoff games, so expect a big crowd who are not afraid to show their enthusiasm for their team. It's a mix of family, blue collar workers, ghetto folks, and even sophisticated types who all enjoy one thing....BEER AND STIFF DRINKS. The mixed drinks here are epic and served in those mini carafe containers. After one you will no doubt be feeling a buzz, and after two you will be slurring words. Not bad for less than $15 total.
The food is good and reliable, plus it's way better than average bar food. I've had the burgers, steak sandwiches, chicken wings, and pizza and have yet to be disappointed. The great thing is it's all very filling and allows you to soak up that booze to make the trek down Country Club Rd (D.U.I. haven) in one piece. All in all, a good place to get together and shoot the sh*t for a few hours and enjoy a game.
FUN FACT: I once took a date and her young daughter here for pizza on a Saturday night. While the little girl played video games, she was BIT by another vagrant child (who's Mom was busy polishing off a pitcher to notice) for not giving her a quarter. Needless to say, that's the last time she came down from Modesto to visit me again. Gotta love Stockton!!
I was convinced to go here again for dinner with coworkers. Â This time, we decided to all collaborate and order a bunch of pepperoni pizzas. Â They were decent pizzas, a bit too saucy but with good flavor and not a terrible amount of grease. Â They don't really compare to the pizza's you'll get at Michael's, Dante's, David's, etc.
The pizza convinced me that this place isn't completely awful for food. Â I hear the burgers are good here - that'll be the next one I review if I get dragged here again. Â The graduate has earned another star, but I'm still not going to go back unless invited.
You really can't go wrong at the Graduate.
Been around for 30+ years. Â and so have I..haha
Not an elegant dining spot.. not a good spot for a
quite romantic anniversary dinner..
BUT....
It is a great fun spot..up beat atmosphere, good, consistent
food, large portions, reasonable prices and they are generous
when pouring the alcohol! Â Lots of machines that will eat up the
kiddies quarters and keep them entertained for hours...as long
as you keep them in quarters! Â ;)
What more do you want/need??
I had a medium two topping pizza with extra cheese.
<a href="http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/5Gb6kWueHYRBo36738o-rg?select=sHVEczMnxB-XevuVDhBbBg">http://www.yelp.com/biz_…</a>
Omg, be careful when you order extra cheese!! Â Must
have been at least a couple of pounds of cheese on that
sucker. Â Lots of toppings too! Â Sooo much cheese and
toppings on it that it took extra time to cook. Â I had to send
it back to have it cooked a bit more because of how thick
the toppings were. Â It came back perfectly done. Â I forgot
to ask for light sauce. Â Having light sauce makes for a
crispier crust and that's the way I like it.
I also had a bowl of their soup...clam chowder tonight. <a href="http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/5Gb6kWueHYRBo36738o-rg?select=zg3AkdnZtuiEzKudrevOjA">http://www.yelp.com/biz_…</a> Â
I am sure it is home made. Â Very thick..lots of clams! Â Quite
tasty. Â Comes with a couple chunks of garlic bread.
I'm going to sleep good tonight  ;)
Go there.
I went to Maureen G's second annual UYE and had a blast. Thank you Maureen G. Â
I had a 60 percent Kobe beef burger and although well done; did not taste dry. In fact the burger was good.
If you are hungry don't order the onion rings with your burger; get the mountain of fries instead.
Oh yeah both bartenders were fantastic; and the cooking staff were all courteous and helpful.
For what the Grad does, they do it well. Casual, come as you are.
It's been a while since I've been and I'd forgotten they have some very nice non-beef choices. Something I especially appreciate when I'm in the mood for a burger. Tonight I could have ordered either a turkey burger or gone totally vegetarian with a garden burger. Instead I opted for the Friday nite special, fish fry, plus 2 sides. All for like $7.00. I don't think you can even get the Colonel's Chicken for that!
Well, I'd have to say the company at my table was, how do you say..... great! We had a UYE meet-up tonight and I got to meet 4 new yelp friends. I always have fun when Yelpers are involved.
Why do I love the Grad, you may say? Well, let me count the ways-10 in all!
1. It's been here since I've been here and that's a long time!
2. It hasn't changed a bit; thank goodness they still have those Alice in Wonderland chandeliers-if they got rid of them, I'd have to stop coming!
3. Fries
4. Garlic Bread
5. Long Island Ice Tea
6. Big long picnic tables, there's always room for one more and no need for a reservation!
7. Giant entry doors that look like something out of the fairy tale castle that Jack in the Beanstalk discovered upon climbing to the top of the stalk-a battering ram couldn't knock those things down!
8. Although it's no longer considered a biker's bar, it's guaranteed you will see a biker or two!
9. I've never gone to the Grad and had a bad time.
10. It holds some wonderful college day memories for me!
for the sake of being original, i came here on a monday afternoon with some friends the day before our graduation. it wasn't really crowded, but i heard its gets pretty crazy on weekends...like someone got stabbed or something? anyway, i had the chicken strips with a salad and baked potato, and it was pretty good for 7 bucks. AND they have tons of different beers on tap.
overall...it's just a really good atmosphere. i love the long tables and benches, and long bar with regulars hanging out watching baseball, the order-and-pick-up your own food; it's really chill.
The Graduate is your one stop shop for good food, stiff drinks, good urban fashion (I see some folks matching from head to toe with their favorite team colors, mostly front runner fans during post season play), and if you're lucky there will be an MMA brawl in the parking lot if the Raider's fans get mad when their team loses...(True Story)... I've tried a variety of sandwiches, pizza, burgers, and appetizers here.... They are all of a good size proportion with plenty of taste and will soak up the sea of booze that you will no doubt have in you stomach... My favorites are the
Glendale sandwich, chicken wings, pizza bread, and grad burger... The pizza is pretty good as well. Â A little doughy at times, but
when you are on you're 2nd-3rd Long
Island (or whatever you're poison) you can careless... Â Feel free to bring the little ones as well.. There is plenty of games and other quarter gobbling machines to keep them
busy.. I know my mama and daddy fed me a lot of quarters while they got their drink on!!!!
The staff here kinda has that I don't give a sh!t attitude, but hey you just gotta get your food ordered at the counter and be nice to the bartender so that he will pour the alcohol like it's going to be Prohibition starting the next day..
Be forewarned that the Sheriff loves to cruise by this spot at night, so don't leave if you sound like you have a severe speech
impairment and are walking like a side show circus clown wearing oversized shoes... You will make yourself a moving target and
become a celebrity in the 911 section of the Stockton Record the next day....
I went here on a Wednesday with a couple of friends to try the daily special: Ribeye! I called before going and was told that the special was $8+tax so I was a little disappointed when I got there and found out it was actually $9+tax. You can either get the ribeye as a sandwich or get it with 2 sides (I got the fries and salad). They also have happy hour M-F from 3-6pm so I got myself a newcastle for $3.
Overall, for the price, the food was pretty good! The only bad thing was that they mixed up my order with my friend's order. Besides that, everything was good. After reading the other yelp reviews, I was a little hesitant about going to the Graduate but I was pleasantly surprised. I will be definitely be returning again soon!
A good place to kick back with buddies, munch on unhealthy but super good food, and have a few drinks in a very casual, somewhat family setting.
I hear this is a good place to watch sports, since they have several screens, but I don't really do that. lol I come here for the personal pizza; topped with onions and mushrooms...yum.
The bartenders are also super nice here and make pretty good drinks! I suggest the Mai Tai's and the Watermelon Kamikaze's!
The favorite spot of alcoholic single dads, softball guy, little league teams, and meth dealers needing a busy drop off spot.
Pizza tends to be burnt, burgers OK, steak sandwich and Glendale are best on roster of food items, Drinks strong and beer cold.. Staff seems way tired of the grind.
Not exactly first date location, or, location to take uninitiated out of towners that havent seen our ghettofab residents in one of their natural settings ( such as WalMart) . Therefore, it is the perfect Stockton family food/booze stop.....where else can Dad get blotto on pitchers, while mom socks down LI teas.....and the lil ones can play video games to their hearts content?
It's one big room with long tables; so you sit where ever there is seating. There is a small bar in the front, near the ordering counter. Â Along the walls are cheap arcades - similar to those broken old ones you see at laundry mats. You can bring your family while you drink and watch sports. Your kids are allowed to run loose in this little boxed room. Parking is not easy to find on weekends.
I came here for a birthday and we took one table. We had food and cake all over the table, so people clearly knew it wasn't empty. Half the people from one side got up to the bar and the kids ran to play games. Half of the table was still occupied. A soccer team walked in the door and sat at our 'unoccupied' seats with cake that hasn't been eaten yet.
Wouldn't go back .. not even for food.
My phone call to the Graduate.
Me:"Hey, what's up? Are you guys showing the Sharks game tonight"
DB: "uhhhh ummmm.. huh?"
Me: "Sharks, you playing it tonight?!"
DB:"It's not on right now"
Me: "Yeah, I know that, it's on at 4:30. Are you going to show it?"
DB: "Let me ask my manager"
DB:"Sharks.. ummm that's Hockey right?
Me: "Yep"
DB: "Then yeah, no, we aren't going to show it"
Me:"Uhhh what?!"
DB: "I mean, like, you can like come in and make a 'special request' but like no promises"
Me: CLICK
Just when I thought the graduate could be my next spot they shoot me down even before I get in the door. Will not be going in ever now. Just lost yourself a customer.
I used to come here back in the days with a group of youngsters (I'm old now) usually the youth group I was involved in at the catholic church I attend to. They have a decent amount of games and such for entertainment, but its good during sporting event nights like football, baseball, you name it. I actually went with my dad once being the first time, during a sporting event, 49ers vs, I dunno, and I was prolly in High School still.
The food is great, love it! They serve beer as well I still think. Umm I think its convenient just several miles or so off the freeway? But great food being their pizza, burgers, uhh chicken?? Great tasty food, cooked fresh as their ordered.
I wanna go again. Prolly do so soon.
I'm not sure what all the fuss is about this place.
I went here today for lunch, and was not at all impressed. Â $25 got us a burger and fries, BBQ beef sandwich and rings, a side of cheese sticks, and two large drinks. Â It felt very overpriced.
The sides looked and tasted rather generic, and the portions weren't that significant. Â Even at $2.50 each, there's no refills on the drinks. Â There's no table service, at all. Â Their BBQ beef sandwich was worse than Arby's: tasteless roast beef with too much BBQ sauce squirted on top.
The folks behind the counter didn't have much personality, though they might have been tired from the lunch rush. Â They were nice though.
A quick note: the dining area is just long rows of tables. Â I didn't notice any booths or private areas. Â This is great for parties. Â Definitely not for business meetings or anything where you want peace and quiet.
decided to eat there after taking the day off work, I had not been there in several years and I was not disappointed. The chicken sandwhich with cheese and bacon was great, and my friend had the burger while sharing a pitcher of New Castle. We left full and happy, staff pleasent and curtious thanks for a great lunch!!!!
Review Source:Updating my review and removed two stars because the food quality has been hit and miss.
I still go quite a bit because it's a great family place where you can enjoy decent pizza, pitcher of beer and the kids get to play some games. Â I used to love the hot wings until the wings have been cold the last few times. Â Got the rib special one night and the ribs were so tasteless I couldn't finish.
I'll stick to the pizza , cheese bread, beer and long island iced tea from here on out. Â I'll update if the rest of the menu gets better.
I have'nt been there in about ten years funny I only live 3 blocks away. But if memory serves me correct the pizza was better than average and trust and believe there is some horrible pizza places here in Stockton (Michael's on the westside). And the draft beer ahh I love draft beer used to go with friends from work and kill a few pitchers and enjoy the eyecandy.
Review Source:The Graduate  (I'm sure it actually prevented some people from becoming graduates)
I loved this place when I was an undergraduate at Pacific. Unbeatable Long Island Iced Teas. Â We use to share a big plate of fries and buy a few rounds of Long Islands. Â Great place to chill out on one of those sweltering Stockton summer nights.
Stop by to see why.
Pretty solid pizza, parking lot gets full quick on the weekends, and you have to park around the corner in a slightly questionable neighborhood. I've never had a problem though, but had a friend that lived at the apts down the street, and know things go on, so be careful.
Decent beer on tap as well. It's a fun place to hang out, we use to come here to battle back in the heyday of street fighter when pacbowl got boring. Be wary of the barflies though.
I've loved The Grad for years. Â You can get a really great meal there. Â Show up on a not so busy hour so you are able to park you car in their lot... and not across the street. Â They have really good burgers, pizza. Â When we used to live closer, my husband used to bring home their ribs and I would just go nuts!
Friendly staff... I think the bartender has been there ever since I wasn't old enough to drink and serving me beer!
