I can't believe I just drove 90 miles for a brisket sandwich -- and I can't believe it was absolutely worth it. Â This is Texas BBQ as it should be. Â Huge bun, chopped brisket, sauce, pickles, and onions. Â Perfection. Â Soooo good. Â The place is easy to miss but worth doubling back for.
The sides didn't look impressive so I skipped them. Maybe I was wrong and they rock, but I'd rather have room for all the meat they give you.
I love eating here, the prices are great and the food is awesome. Â The portions are huge. Â Order a taco and expect it to be the size of your wrist. Â
My only complaint is when busy they won't answer the phone to place an order and they don't always stock enough food.  I LOVE their fajitas  but they were sold out 3 out of the the last 5 times I have been there.  But then they wouldn't be sold out if it wasn't good.
Definately one of the best bar b que places to eat.
Since I traverse Hwy 90 W. from SA to Uvalde occasionally, I am always curious about places that spring up along this trek from time to time. The Yelper in me has me duty bound to check these places out and report them back to the Yelpdom. With luck, the good ones will prosper and carry on - but we have to be willing to make time to stop if we want them to make it!
There is a new BBQ restaurant in Sabinal, and it goes by the name of Grandpa Rudy's Pit. GRP is located is a cool little metal building with rustic character, and pits located right outside. Inside are 4-5 large tables, and a couple of enthusiastic employees serving great BBQ!
On 3/4/11, I felt compelled to stop and and got a sliced BBQ sandwich to go.
My to go was professionally packaged, with a large styrofoam container for the beast and napkins all inside a brown paper sack.
The sandwich itself ($3.99) was LARGE and meaty, with the pickles, onions, and sauce well contained by the large, crispy bun. The buns had been toasted just right by a stint on the griddle to make it into a crispy delight. The sliced brisket looked wonderfully classic with smoke ring in tact.
I noted some other menu items (since they have no website) as FYI - so if you are headed W on Hwy. 90, check out Grandpa Rudy's pits!
