Just ate here w/ my brother at around 1 pm on a Sunday.

Service for us was much better than most of the reviews here.  After seating ourselves, our waitress came with our menus in less than 2   minutes.  Drinks came in 5 minutes. Order was taken in less than 10 minutes. Food was on the table in about 20 mins. She also checked on us & our refills several times.

As for the food itself, we were both pleasantly surprised.  I can only review the breakfast items so take that into consideration.  We both made use of Granny's build your own breakfast menu.  I had the biscuits & gravy, hash browns, sausage, & small pancakes.  My brother had the sausage & egg  biscuit, blueberry muffin, hash browns, & small pancakes.
-The biscuits & gravy were ok
-The hash browns were good enough
-The sausage was good, just a touch salty, maybe contains MSG
*The highlight of the meal had to be the blueberry muffins & the pancakes.  Both made from scratch, both incredible.  Granny uses a darker flour with a sweet cornbread flavor but were crispy on the outside soft on the inside.  The small pancakes come in 2s and are pretty big.

The prices are also decent, the total between the 2 of us was $23 but we eat more than most.  Overall i'd give Granny's a 7.2.  Will definitely hit up the pancakes/muffins & try their omelettes next time we're in town.

This place is so-so. It was a good break from the Greenbrier but probably wouldn't come back.

I ate here by chance in 2007 while visiting the Greenbriar.  In 2011, passing through on the interstate, I made sure to stop here again.  Granny's lived up to the hype I had built in my mind over those four years.  Considering the limited food options in the area, Granny's is the best there is outside of the Greenbriar but with far more appetizing prices.

2.5 stars...As another reviewer posted, a non-chain scaled back version of cracker barrel.  Again, service was extremely slow, but the food was decent!  I had the catfish special with corn fritters and okra...can't beat the price...but slow service and school cafeteria like ambiance.  The complimentary corn bread was yummy...try it, there aren't too many options in the area...

The preface to this is that we spent about an hour trying to figure out where to eat. We didn't want any "fine" dining and didn't want to do any repeats from earlier in our trip. So this restaurant is the embodiment of fine southern cooking. The atmosphere is southern rustic meets a truck stop, but the smells are heavenly. The service is not super quick but the wait staff is very friendly and helpful. Now, we're good southerners, so we know better than to go for salads of sandwiches at a place like this: we went for country fried steak and chicken and dumplings, with an appetizer of fried pickles. We couldn't have been more pleased with the meal--and I'm not sure if my mom could cook it better herself. We will definitely be repeat customers when we're in that neck of the woods!

P.S. The potato pancakes and corn nuggets will blow your mind.

2.5 for Granny's House. Granny's seemed like your standard country family restaurant. Not a chain like Cracker Barrel, but a much scaled down version of it. You have a few rocking chairs out front and a small store you walk through before you seat yourself in the restaurant section just beyond it.

The entire restaurant was packed, a sure sign of a good place to eat (or that there's no other place around to eat) so we grabbed a seat at the counter. Yup, sat right there at the counter where all the servers could see you. Now, I don't know if it was because I was hungry and yeah, they were busy, but I find it quite irritating to wait over 15 minutes (at least) just to be given a menu. I didn't sit there to watch them do their jobs - there was a rumbly in my tumbly! At least I can say that when we were given service, it was very friendly.

The food? Well, my club sandwich, not so good. How? I do not know. The fries that came with my meal, also not so good - pretty limp. Who likes limp things? Not me. My hush puppies were pretty good though ...and his hamburger steak and potato cakes...The mac & cheese was (yes, I am going to say this) TOO cheesy for me. Or maybe it was the cheese? Definitely pass up the corn bread, it tasted like nothing.

Cute country restaurant but I think I'm going to stick with the chain version of this place.
