I got a bee in my bonnet about tasting some real Texas barbecue while I was touring stately Roswell, NM and noticed that the border was only 87 miles away (Bronco Crossing). We didn't want to drive too far across the border (the closest BBQ joints being in Brownfield, another fifty miles or Morton, another 30 or so).
When we wound up in Plains, we were lucky enough to find this great place! It's very small, just a lunch stand with a small patio under an awning. The lady who runs the place does all the cooking and is just about the sweetest. But on to the piece de resistance, the barbecue itself.
Frankly, as far as good barbecue goes, I have never had better! The brisket was so tender, when I picked up a piece to eat it, it fell in half! The sauce is homemade and incredibly delicious. The chop sandwiches were huge and the potato salad was quite lovely. To top it off the sweet teas are huge and the piece of Coca-Cola cake (with peanut butter icing) that we had for dessert was very tasty.
As someone rather inexperienced with Texas barbecue I was very impressed with this little place and highly recommend it to anyone passing through this (rather desolate) part of West Texas.
