The green frog is predominantly about great live music, but the grilled cheese is a highlight for me every time since they opened the new location last year. (The old location didn't offer hot food). Check out the 10+ kinds of grilled cheeses with options like gorgonzola, bacon and greenapple, or "the elvis" with cheddar, bacon and peanut butter. I haven't tried it yet,  but the jalapeno, pepper jack cream cheese and tortilla chips grilled sounds amazing - especially with all the great beer on tap! All grilled cheese are offered on your bread of choice, including Gluten Free (yay for me!). They consistently grill it so the cheese runs out and gets crispy on the side. Yum! Downside: it often takes 20+ minutes from order to delivery, but usually we're enjoying the music so it doesn't matter. They added a new outdoor patio which is unique in downtown Bellingham, and awesome in the summer. Note though if you are out on the deck belly up to the bar or chatting at a picnic table you can't hear the music or know that the music is starting.

A unique type of place that you only come across every once in a while.  It hits all the main points you look for in a social spot.  Live music, large outdoor seating, variety of liquor and beer (Bloody Mary bar too), a simple quality menu, low prices, interesting venue, and most of all friendly staff.  Definitely check this place out if you're in the area.

I've been here a few times and have thoroughly enjoyed it each time.

The Green Frog has a good vibe that's not too bar-like, the employees are super friendly, they have an amazing selection of beer, and I've seen some good music. I've never felt skeezed on and it seems like there's a fair amount of regulars.

Keep in mind the bar is cash-only (they have an ATM) and the only food offered is grilled cheese sandwiches, complete with a non-dairy version.

The new location has so much potential to be the best bar in Bellingham. Great outdoor seating, amazing beer selection, and great atmosphere. But when the novelty wears off, and you realize they don't take cards (cash only), there always seams to be a cover, the excitement numbs dramatcally. Sadly this bar seams to have fallen victim to the draw of snaring a few late night wanderers willing to pay the $8 covers, for a mostly empty dance floor, at a once thriving dive bar. For now the new location isn't worth the walk, or the trouble of withdrawing cash beforehand, when more established (downtown) bars offer a more casual, and accommodating experience. It really is a sadness that this new location, with all it has to offer, misses the mark on such simple points. High hopes dashed at the new Green Frog Acoustic Tavern.

There is no Juke box in The Green Frog. Instead the playlist of over 16,000 songs are all made by those who have played there. Often the rafters shake with the sound of hateful angry banjo, or the straining vocals of a broken belle. It is enrapturing.

On a night without a show the bar is truly pleasant, It is the sort of place which lacks peanut shells but does not seem adverse to them. The owner spends a great deal of time on the floor interacting with his customers. He is one of the nicest, warmest people in Bellingham. When you go meet him, see what he recommends. The specialty food is the stately grilled cheese sandwich. The menu has a half dozen varieties. The Green Frog features local beers and a patio. Summer is coming, I will be spending more time on this patio.

There is no waitstaff at green frog, only a friendly bartender who gives you the most delicious selection of beer on tap in the 'ham. One star off because it's so small and can get crowded but rumor has it they are moving to a larger space soon. Live music a lot of nights but I like to go when there isn't so I can grab a pint with my friends and have a nice low key night. You're not going to find any short skirted waitresses with overpriced martinis, but if that's your thing then you probably won't like the frog anyway. Cheap pint night on Tuesday.

Dirty, unkempt, poor service from jaded, apathetic, talentless waitstaff, and a resident-alcoholic owner who's keeps the joint open only because it's the only thing which allows him to feel significant in life. He sits around trying to sound intelligent to all the goofs who will listen. The bar is filthy. It's dark, dank, disgusting. No one of value or worth would ever be caught dead here. Walk in and immediately discover the better reviews were solicited - this place is a dirty, uninspired, urine-soaked mess of a
wreck. These dorks can't even afford to fix their toilet, so they have passive-aggressive flushing instructions posted. Go to this bar to feel better about life, but don't walk all the way in. Smell the failure, walk out. NYP next door is way better, and that says a lot.

Minimal seating and very small space is an unfortunate feature for how many people will show up to enjoy their amazing locally brewed beer that the bartender knows a lot about. There has been rumors that they might relocate to a larger space.

They don't serve food but have peanuts you may purchase to eat and join in the novelty factor of throwing your shells on the ground. I've seen people bring in their own food to enjoy.

Their brewers night they have during the week features local brewery's that come in and have their beer on tap to try. Each time you buy a drink you'll be given a raffle ticked to have a change to win free merch from the guest brewery.

Bring your pet, have a delicious beer with friends while you enjoy the great live music.

Love it.  Down to Earth, great music, great vibe.  And I can bring my dog.

My friend and I stepped in here for just a quick, look-see and it turned into an hour and a half long adventure. WE LOVED IT!
It always amazes me how friendly the people are in Bellingham and the Green Frog is no exception.

    The Beer was great.
    Music was great.
The dog was a nice touch, too.

If I had one complaint it would be that the instruction in the bathroom might be a tad bit too complicated for drunks (like my friend)... but maybe that's the point?

Stumbled in on $3 pint night when an acoustic guitarist was playing some mellow music. Nice, eclectic selection of beers.

They have a small food menu, but apparently also allow pizza in from the place next door.

Nice decor-- homey, quirky, pub-like, but not really grungy.  Bathroom is surprisingly fancy, smelling slightly of lavender, being clean, and having an automatic paper towel dispenser.

I'd probably come here often if I lived in Bellingham!

Would've been 5 stars if the bartender hadn't kept randomly disappearing??

There's 2 kinds of people who go to the Green Frog: those who like beer, and those who like music.  (And people who want to bring their dog to the bar.)  I fall mostly into the beer category, but overlap into the music category sometimes.  And the beer!  They have a great selection of beers I've never heard of but are consistently delicious.  Every other Wednesday there's a brewer's night.

There's live music every night.  Usually the singer-songwriter, guitar-playing type.  It's a great venue for the indie scene, and the Green Frog prides itself on being a 'listening room', meaning give the musicians some respect.  The shows I've seen there have been really good.

The bar itself is really narrow, so it fills up fast.  Although sometimes it's pretty empty, earlier in the day.  It's pretty dark in there, so I'd recommend it for those days you want to forget it's gloomy outside.  The owner James, is nice to everyone, and puts out a weekly email newsletter letting you know who's playing and what's on tap that week.  There's a sign-up sheet at the bar.

Eschewing brevity, both in its name and beer menu, the Green Frog is a tiny, glorious, hole-in-the-wall type of place on the edge of downtown Bellingham's commercial corridor.  Dog friendly and littered with peanut shells, the Green Frog has nightly live music and one of the longest lists of micro-brews in town. In fact, other than the actual brew pubs, the Green Frog, whose beer-loving owner scours the Earth in search of the finest brews, has THE most unique and varied menus around. Even as a self-proclaimed beer-snob, I commonly find myself staring blankly at the lengthy and ever-changing list of exotic brews having NO idea what to ask for, either because I've never heard of them, or because there are just too many choices. Either way, that's a good kind of problem to have.  Oh...the music!  I forgot! They have live music most of the time. Usually of the not-quite-ready-for-prime-time variety...in a good way. Whether eclectic, exotic or just plain strange, the musicians at the Green Frog are right there in your face. With only about 800 total square feet, the "stage" takes up most of the open space not already used up by the tables and bar, so it gets pretty cozy. Again, in a good way.

No Crap On Tap - and they mean it. The owner's dog is always there to greet you and who doesn't feel at home with piles of peanut shells on the floor. I finally took my husband and he was equally as impressed.

    I LOVE THIS PLACE.

They have the best beer selection in the area and you'll find better beer than Boundary Bay can offer!!

Plus the atmosphere is super gritty and fun.  There's usually an animal wandering around and lots of characters to entertain you.

They have a cool thing worked out with New York Pizza next door too, so New York Pizza will deliver pizza over to you when you're drinking at the Green Frog... which is so sweet.

From the first time I could walk, I remember going to the Green Frog Cafe. There were always old men with beer guts playing Domino's there. They would lie about their lives while they played. It was pretty rad to hear them talk. They use to all call me "sidekick" when I was younger.

Me and this old man, we were friends. He was a drifter, a driller of oil wells, an old-school man of the world. He would run his hair through 70 years of living and wonder why every well he drilled had gone dry.

At the Green Frog Cafe, he'd wink, and give me money for the girls. He taught me how to drive his car when he was too drunk to. We lived our lives like some old Western movie. It was great.

One day, I met him at the Green Frog Cafe, and he was pushing 80. He had brown tobacco stains all down his chin, but to me he'd always been a hero of this country, so I wondered why he was dressed like all those old men. I was grown and he was almost gone.

So we sat and drank beer and played Moon and Forty-two. He said, "Jack, that son-of-a-bitch is comin." We was like desperadoes waiting for a train.

Sometimes, I sit in the kitchen and cry, while playing Red River Valley. I'm sure going to miss that old man and all the memories we had at the Green Frog Cafe.

I have to give 5 stars on the tap selection alone. I got beer fever and the Green Frog has my medicine.
This is one of my top 5 local drinking gems. The taps are wicked good! If you love good beer you will love this place.

5 stars for the beer selection and Brewer's Night every other week.

They really do live up to their motto "No crap on tap" by only serving really, really good stuff. The prices might appear high to the PBR-loving college kid (don't worry, you won't find the typical Friday night crowd here), but you get what you pay for; quality pales, porters, stouts, lagers, scotch ales, seasonals, and my personal favorites, IPAs. There is always a wide variety of beer and even a few root beers and soft drinks. James, who is there most of the time and is one of the owners, is a really friendly guy who knows his stuff. One time during the Brewer's Nights when they give out prizes, the featured brewery didn't show up (due to snow) and James gave out things from his personal collection. I ended up winning one of his AMAZING Imperial Russian Stouts he's been saving from 2006. I felt kind of bad taking it from him..

My only complaint with the Green Frog is the layout of the space. I wish it were in a larger, less narrow room with a bigger, less awkward stage. But the atmosphere remains very unique. You'll find peanut shells littering the floor, guitars and other random stringed instruments hanging from the wall (free to play) and dogs running around. You also might find musicians playing on the stage, as they have live music almost every night. I was excited to find out that Joel, who booked at the 3B and Chiribins, is now booking Monday nights here, so expect some more rock acts to be rolling through.

The Brewer's Night is by far my favorite thing about the Green Frog. Every other Wednesday James brings a brewer or a rep (from a brewery down the west coast) who raffles off prizes - usually pint glasses, limited brews, or other merch - and offers their beer for $3 for a few hours that night. I have gone home with a prize every time except for one. In fact, I hope I don't regret writing this review if it means my competition will increase....

Still, if you love a good beer in a casual environment with friendly people (and the occasional dog), you'll enjoy this place.
