Green Pastures is a nice place to go when you want to kick back with a cold beverage and listen to some amazing jazz. It's a smallish/medium sized place, but usually packed with fellow music fans, chowing down on their fried chicken dinner. Mmm, fried chicken.
Anyway, back to Green Pastures. They've got a well stocked bar and the bartenders are oh-so-friendly!
Green Pastures is a little slice of heaven. I started coming here when I was at EC and I still make trips all the way up to Elmira to see shows here.
Very small and cozy inside, reasonable drink prices, and the friendliest, most wonderful Jazz club I have ever experienced. Jazz shows are usually held every Wednesday and Sunday from 7 to 10. They serve the most unbelievable fried chicken dinners during jazz nights that are not to be missed.
Howard, the owner, is almost always there and is a great guy. The crowd is very mixed and always very friendly. Its like you are in someones house, just hanging out, having good food, and watching a friends band play. I usually go by myself and never have trouble finding interesting folks to chat with.
The have a couple of jazz groups that regularly play that are all great. Usually just a 3 piece band, but they do mix it up. They occasionally bring in acts from all around upstate NY and NYC. George Reed is not not to be missed if he is playing. He is an unbelievable drummer.
This place is a real jewel and I have never found another place that has the same sort of vibe, you really have to experience it for yourself.
