Neat but equally quirky local cafe with homemade foods. Â My wife and I stopped here and had the two last biscuits (sorry) for our bacon egg and cheese sandwiches. Â We loved them!
If you are dining in they have ceramic cups for your coffee and paper cups if you are going to hit the road. Â We chose to eat on the porch area looking at the dwindling garden by the roadside. Â
Closed Sunday
Get here early before they run out of homemade biscuits for your breakfast sandwich and don't forget to order a side of super delicious homefries...I'm a total homefry snob!
The Grist Mill is a sweet place to stop for breakfast before heading off to Hector for some wine tasting along the Seneca Lake Wine Trail. Â It's definitely worth making a special trip to Burdett to eat here.
Everything is made fresh, they use lots of local ingredients, and their baked goods are excellent, especially their seasonal pumpkin cookies which are actually kind of "scone-like" in consistency. Â YUM!
The only bummer is that they close from December through April.....so what are you waiting for?!?
The Grist Mill is a cute little breakfast and lunch restaurant in the middle of Burdett (it's not a big town!). Â There is plenty of outdoor and porch seating, and they're doggy-friendly, lucky for me!
When you go inside the Grist Mill you'll see menus on chalkboards with the day's offerings. Â The menu doesn't change often, and that's a very good thing since everything my friends and I have eaten has been wonderful. Â I've only been there for lunch, and they offer a good range of sandwiches for vegheads and carnivores: fresh mozzarella with tomato and basil, brie with pesto, the best reuben in the area (extra points because they make their own bread and it's thick enough to keep the sandwich from falling apart), hummus wrap, and a tuna salad with apples and brie. Â If you order a sandwich you usually have the option of foccacia, rye, wheat, white, cinnamon raisin, or a roll; the foccacia is delicious! Lately the side offerings have been a couscous salad or a pasta salad and I'm not sure if they change but the couscous is my favorite.
You can place your order with the gal at the register and they'll usually bring the sandwich to you when it's ready. Â We were sitting outside one afternoon and saw the girl cooking come outside and pick some fresh dill for my sandwich, and I was sold. Â It doesn't get fresher than that! Â There really isn't a server as such so leave a little tip at the register for the lady who brings your food. However if you do need more napkins or something small, somebody will bring it to you unless they're super busy.
Sadly, there is no alcohol here, but they offer boutique sodas, iced tea, coffees and bottled water (and they are so happy to provide a water dish for your doggy that it's listed in the menu!). Â Their takeout menu says they do catering and private dinners for 12 or more, and I would trust that the food for those events is outstanding. Â Even better: the driving range is maybe 4 blocks away so you can eat after you golf!
