I like Guadalajara Restaurant, especially now that it is all non-smoking.  I like their shrimp dishes, and they have great guacamole.  The chili rellanjo was one of the best I've had.

The best kept secrete of mexican food in Lockhart. It is the Chisholm Trail of the bbq in Lockhart. This place is right down the road and awesome food. Dont be fooledby the strip mall apearance, It is not! It is the mexican food place with a lot of flavor plus great salsa. SKIP Pizza Hut You can not beat the lunch buffet for 5 or 6 bucks. IT IS GREAT with fajitas soup and  enchiladas, fresh tortillas all one low price. My love and Cade (5) liked it to.

not your typical tex mex food we eat there at least once a week sometimes twice in a day once for the lunch buffet and once for dinner and have NOT had a bad meal yet! I highly recommend the camarones guadalajaras which is 8 large cream cheese jalapeno stuffed bacon wrapped shrimp served with beans(charro or refried)rice, pico de gallo, guacamole, grilled onions/peppers and tortillas all for the small price of 12.99 my husband loves the camarones a la diabla which has 8 jumbo shrimp, spicy sauce that makes him cry plus the same sides for 11.99. we have tried all their chicken entrees and all are delicious and unique. the margarona's and dos a ritas are awesome! great atmosphere and great employees as well all friendly. The proprietors Mr and Mrs Domingo Moreno are downright great people who care about their customers and if something is not right or to your liking (which i personally can say as many times as we have been there has happened once) let them know and they will do there best to fix it.I dont give ratings or comments very often maybe once before but i truly believe they deserve my time and recommendation.

For the person who inexplicably gave a 1 star review, all I can say is "give it another try".  Don't give up the experience of the best Mexican food around just because of one bad service experience... every restaurant deserves a "bad-hair-day" mulligan on occasion!

My wife and I live way out in Dripping Springs, but when proprietor Domingo Moreno of Drippin's popular "Domingo's Mexican Grill" relocated to Guadalajara in Lockhart early this year, we just had to follow him.

What a surprise to find Domingo's always smiling face running the show in Lockhart, dishing out more of the best REAL Mexican food to be found anywhere in the Central Texas area.  Many of our favorite items were on the menu, including my always fav. (and to-die-for) Carnitas, as well as their multiple preparations of Tilapia.

Chips and Salsa are always home-made, and the margaritas (ask for the Domingo special) are unbeatable anywhere within and outside the Austin area.

Best of all, prices are ridiculously reasonable.  Just wish they were a little bit closer to us.. then we'd be weekly visitors!

Been here twice, first time was just as good as first, but I wanted to be sure. We had the Pollo a la parrila, was DELICIOUS. I do recommend it.

Best Mexican food in Texas we have found so far! These guys havent sacrificed their authentic cuisine for the yellow food eaters in Texas!  EG: piled with queso and starchy fat condiments) Taco el pastor, real corn tortillas, onions and cilantro, just like Mexico! Guacamole-Great and fresh!
    Spicing and seasonings-just right!
They need to get a soda dispenser so all drinks are refilled! Only con.

Yum yum!  My favorite: another Mexican restaurant discovery, this time ensconced in a small strip mall on the east side of Lockhart.  The owners have tried hard to mask the generic shopping center look of the place with lots of color, and nearly succeeds.  The chips and salsa are good and the excellent selection of reasonably priced Mexican beer is served in frozen mugs.  Lovely.

I had the vegetarian enchiladas with green sauce, and even carnivores would like the delicious mushroom-squash filling and toothy tart verde sauce.  I rate this dish 5 stars and would certainly order it again.  Hubby ordered a Texas burrito and really liked it.  I will also say that their charro beans are possibly the best I've ever had, and that is saying something.  I tried to get the recipe out of them and got a vague "bacon and pico" sort of answer.  The black beans are good, too, but not as mouthwatering and complex as the charros.  The rice, so often ignored, was also a star.  In fact, you could just eat rice, charro beans, chips, salsa, and beer and be perfectly content.  The only downside here is the lackluster service.  Our waiter was quite polite, but just disappeared for long stretches of time.  It seemed like every time we needed something there was no one around.  The service is why I give it 4 stars instead of 5.  However, there will certainly be additional visits and I will be more than happy to upgrade my review if last saturday's lunch service was an anomoly.

Upscale menu!  I know I've tried two of their Tilapia dishes if not three.  All are good and we're talking a large fillet that just about covers the plate.  I tried the Durango Plate most recently which features a Poblano pepper stuffed with beef, chicken or cheese, a cheese enchilada, guacamole, charro beans (or refried) and rice.  I got the beef pepper and it was delightful....delicate flavor of the poblano stood out just right.  I'd love to have their recipe for their charro beans, which are the best I've ever had.  I have to mention the salsa.  It's definitely homemade with fresh cilantro.  Service is excellent. Of course they have lots of selections for cold beer and some great margaritas.  Guadalajara is getting discovered.  Friday night, the owner said there was a 45 minute wait and people were lined up out the door to be seated.  It's a direct result of the good dining experience at Guadalajara Mexican Restaurant.

I know that Lockhart is synonymous with barbeque, but sometimes you want some good Mexican food.  Guadalajara is the place to go.  If you are a local, or happen to be passing through at lunch time, go for the all-you-can eat buffet.  Great Tex-Mex cheese enchiladas, fried shrimp, stuffed crab, fajita meats, and the usual assortment of refried beans, rice, etc...  The real standouts on the buffet are their Queso (when is the last time you dipped a shrimp into Queso my friend?), their Charro (borracho) beans and finally, the best thing that is not on the menu but appears only at the buffet bar, is their salsa de Mocajete.  They have a tasty red salsa, but this is the real deal.  Roasted tomatoes and jalapenos, blended perfectly!  On to their entree's.  My usual order is the Jalisco Style tacos.  Marinated skirt steak with cilantro, onion and lime topped with a special tangy red extra hot sauce on corn tortilla.  Wonderful.  Just like Mexico.  The other standards are the Esteak a la Mexicana, which is the same delicious skirt steak marinated and diced up with tomato, onion and jalapeno, or get the Carne Asada.  Same beef, not diced and served with grilled onions and bell pepper (I sub jalapenos) and a cheese enchilada.  You can even get that with Nopales!  This place has excellent jumbo shrimp and and a great hand breaded chicken fried steak (everything is hand breaded).  They even have Higado (liver) if that strikes your fancy.  Full bar and lots of beer selections (Bohemia!).  Don't let the lonely looking strip center fool you.  This place is great and is family run.  Give them a try!
