My friend and I were passing through on our way to Albany, NY. Â We were looking for some good food after shopping for hours at the Lee Premium Outlets. Â I pulled out my trusty Yelp app and we found ourselves at the Gypsy Joynt. Â
I was a little concerned that we were not going to be able to sit down and eat. Â It is the kind of establishment where you order at the register and they bring the food to you. Â On the Thursday night we were there, it was packed. Â However, by the time that we decided what we wanted, and then ordered, I had snagged a table. Â
This is a very eclectic place, with a small stage for live music, a bar, a bakery, and a small outdoor area in the front to enjoy some adult beverages or eat. Â The place is decorated with funky art and behind the counter is a huge mural of the family members that own and operate the Gypsy Joynt. Â Many of them were recognizable in the restaurant and lived up to their Gypsy name. Â
My friend and I both ordered the grilled salmon salad. Â It was supposed to come with grilled asparagus, but they were out, so we substituted with grilled zucchini. Â It was a really fresh, great sized, great tasting salad, and for the amount of salmon that was on it. it was certainly worth $10.
We also both ordered a mini pie to take with us. Â
At the Gypsy Joynt, you bus your own table, and get your own water, which we were both totally fine with. Â
I wish I could have stayed longer in Great Barrington, but now I have something to look forward to if I ever return.
I can only go by my experience, I came here with the hubby and my friend. We sat by the window and my hubby dealed with the red haired young man. He was very nice and informative and we ordered the Hawaiian pizza and some sort of salad ( my friend wanted a healthy item). The pizza  was RIDICULOUS! It was huge and fresh as could be. My friends salad was filled with luscious vegetables and curious ingredients. The pizza was filled with juicy pineapple chunks, and tasty bacon, and it was so big we had left overs for the next day.Only sad we didn't get to see the live band. You guys are wicked cool!
Review Source:It was definitely helpful reading all the reviews before we went in. Bottom line...it's good.
Yes, you walk in, grab your own menu, find a seat, order from the bar and bus your own table. Knowing that we didn't walk in there and look like Deer in highlights.
We started with their wings..really delicious. The burgers were amazing and the coffee with homemade desserts were fantastic.
We will DEFINITELY be back.
Tried Gypsy Joynt for the first time about a week ago after walking past it and peeking in a few times since it opened. Â I was looking for a late lunch and found this to be a great place that fit the bill. Â It's cool inside. Â Very unique decor. Â Certainly unpretentious and a very interesting menu. Â
The menu claims that they take pride in knowing where their food comes from which is commendable. Â The menu is unique for sure and the prices are reasonable. Â
They also have live music but I have not seen it in action, yet. Â
Definitely worth checking out.
I think people on Yelp are too liberal in general with the 4 and 5 star ratings (not just for this). Â Gypsy Joynt is good, but not five stars, sorry. Â 5 stars means "WooHoo, As good as it gets!". Â As good as it gets? Ummm.
I'm sorry, the food is certainly delicious but they serve it with a nice sour puss and attitude every time that I go in here. I've been going to this place since it opened and the owner has never been nice to me and neither has any of her daughters. I am a fairly cheerful and nice individual so my attempt at even making the cashier happy always fails and I feel like I am an inconvenience to them. I'd also like to point out the hypocrisy of a group of affluent, white people calling themselves "gypsies".
The food certainly tastes good but after repeated poor service spanning over YEARS I am no longer going there. There are other tasty options in GB and the Berkshires; this is not the end-all, be-all of restaurants.
If you don't care how clearly ungrateful and annoyed by the *owners* about your business, loyalty, or the snobby vibe that they exude (I'm a well-educated liberal, so I'm not sure why I feel like they think that I'm an idiot, other than I don't dress in anthropologie clothes and/or free people clothes), then this might just be the place for you. Sure, the portions are liberal and it's an interesting place to be inside of, but I just cannot patron a place where they so clearly do not care if you're there or not.
Don't buy into their marketing of the friendliest place ever! It's so not.
First time at the Gypsy ( Thursday Mar 6 ). A bit confused at first as we didn't know the routine...get menu, go to counter, order. Then sit back and relax in this very funky Main Street eatery. We started with a BBQ chicken pizza as a appetizer and can honestly say this is truly wonderful stuff. I was in the mood for chili as it was miserable outside so. Got the fritz pie...OMG, I could take it intravenously. others had salads and sandwiches and were all tickled pink with their selection. I would refrain from the fettuccini Alfredo ...stick with Pizza and sandwiches. The burgers looked wonderful, but that is for next time!
Review Source:Two words: Yo Adrian. Â
More Words: Â The Yo Adrian sandwich with the veggie patty is my jam. Â It never fails to be as delicious as I remember it. Â Since I don't live near GB, I only have a chance to get out to Gypsy once in a while. Â I always tell myself I'm going to try something new, but I never ever do. Â Unless I'm there for breakfast, in which case the giant cinnamon buns really are the way to go.
The place is lively, eccentric, and cozy for large groups of people. Â Also, the menu is crazy and large enough to please pretty much everyone.
FAVORITE MEAL IN THE BERKSHIRES! Â
My husband and I came here for the first time last weekend. Â At first, the restaurant seemed to be filled with chaos. Â The whole place was just packed. Â We managed to grab the last table and find some chairs. Â This place is mostly self-service. Â You order at the counter and they'll bring out your order. Â
Another yelper recommened the mac & cheese, which we got and it was amazing! Â We also go the 100% grass-fed beef Mr. Yunioshi burger that came with homemade sriracha sauce, grape salsa, goat cheese, tomato, onion, spinach & avocado. Â Was curious about the grape salsa, but it worked on this burger and I loved it! Â The burger came with a heaping amount of baked sweet potato thick cut chips and those were also delicious. Â Great food for a small price.
Hands down THE BEST in the Berkshires on all accounts (food, creativity, price, friendliness). Â You can't order a bad item from the menu but for me personally the vegetarian options are the best around. Â Everyone is welcome here. Â The Weller family (owners) are awesome and liven up GB. Â They catered my wedding, wife's shower and work events. Â Be sure to visit their clothing store down the street for unique stuff. Â If you don't try this place you've got issues.
Review Source:Gypsy Joynt is my favorite place to eat in the whole world, and I've missed it more than anything else since leaving Great Barrington.
If you're the sort of stuck up jerk who's offended at the idea of placing an order at the counter and bussing your own table, stay away! If you don't like to be surrounded by absolutely adorable babies, keep out! And if you think that kitschy, over the top decorations are anything but fun and cool, don't bother stepping in the door!
But if you're looking to be served some downright delicious food by a gorgeous, hilarious bunch of redheaded hippies, Gypsy Joynt is for you! My favorite sandwich is the Sunny Romani, but they're all (and I mean ALL) to die for. Everything is good, but their sandwiches are what's worth writing home about.
They also have a decent espresso bar selection, and their desserts are AMAZING. I suggest getting one of their stuffed cookies, or, if you've got the intestinal fortitude for it, a giant, delicious, hot, sticky cinnamon bun. Always perfect. If they're not still hot from the oven, you can ask them to warm one up for you.
just the best food at reasonable prices. Â thats the best review i can give and this is the best place i've ever eaten at. from the real burgers that are fine food to the great hummus and generous fresh crispy salads with fruit this place rules. Â order at the counter and pay, then find a table and they'll bring you your order. Â i also love this place because i hate paying extra for the usual restaurant con game of awkward, fawning, formality, that most places use as a replacement for good food. everybody is nice and the casual, friendly owners are happy you came and make your food like you're a friend of the chef.
Review Source:Love this place. I look for an excuse to get there for lunch - great salads and looking around the pizza and burgers all look good too. Very good menu with many selections - service is friendly and food is fresh and excellent. Have only been here for lunch but will get my husband to join me for dinner. Casual and fun! A great place - prices are good. Oh, I love that the drinks come in mason jars - a fun touch! I come in with my iPad and hate to have to leave.
Review Source:A little bit o' SF in GB.  An eclectic grungy taste of hippydom with a menu that  is more Tolstoy than anything -- and someone with the munches really must have had a hand in writing it:  peanut butter on a burger?; baked pastries that look like they ate hormones (do Europeans still  wonder  about the source of American obesity?). salads fresh but overwrought,  the plain ol' grass-friend burger was decent but kinda bland.  If you miss the Haight, here's your joint.
Review Source:Second time I've been there and wasn't very impressed. Â The service was uneven and very slow. Â We were a large 3 generation group with very well behaved pre-schoolers. Â They were reprimanded for sitting on "the stage" a couch and some cushions where musicians set up in the evening - then other people sat down there to wait for their table. Â When we finally got seated we realized people who came after us were served before we were. Â The drink orders were mixed up as was one of the meals. Â Another dinner was overlooked and had to be sent back. So maybe a great place for the young folks looking to hang out - but I won't return and neither will my family or friends.
Review Source:Any place that hands me a ROLL of paper towels with their wings, and a mason jar full of good booze gets my full attention.
I'm a foodie. I don't try to hide it. I'm a little chubby maybe, but listen - it's the price you have to pay when you're a serious seeker of good food and drink. Also, if you're in that "comfortable" stage in a relationship where you let yourself go a little, or if you're hiding under the cover of people assuming you're just wearing a hefty sweater during the winter months. Anyways....
Back to The Gypsy Joynt. I don't know why they spelled it wrong. Perhaps to allude the people seeking an actual joint. Although, if so, they may have failed. It's trippy and cool inside. Lots of junky chunky things happening all over. It's like a depressed TGI Fridays. Like if TGI Fridays was into poetry and pondering existential questions over a mason jar full of vodka in a college town in the Berkshires, man.
Mix-matched tables and chairs. A small stage where the kid from the counter stops taking orders and jumps up to play a cool, sad, guitar song. We went on a Sunday night and it was not crowded at all, which made it nice to be able to actually hear the performance. I gotta say, it was a nice touch. It really brought a vibe to the whole place. "Wild Horses" makes drinking away your sorrows and eating your feelings through a piece of real Key Lime pie easier.
You order your food and drinks at the bar, then sit. The drinks are reasonably priced. The food is under-priced. They brought out HUGE portions of food on tin plates. Seriously delicious home made bread and rolls. Who does that anymore? AWESOME ciabatta. The breadsticks were delish. The wings were great - not very crispy though so if you like crispy, be sure to ask. The salads are gigantic and my Steak and Cheese Sammich was not meant for a lady. Good thing there were no ladies around. This thing was LOADED with BEEFY layers all sliced nice with onions and cheeeeeese. On the fresh baked bread. SZzzOMmg good. Fresh pasta side dish came with it. Pickle. Mouth is watering typing this.
DESSERT - Tiramisu - key lime pie - GIANT cinnamon rolls? They have a great selection of desserts that would make this place worth going to for alone.
Grab a girl, grab some friends, grab yourself inappropriately - whatever, just GO here and eat, drink, enjoy the music and have a great time. I did!
After having many meals here, it's time to post a review. Â Hands down, this is the BEST restaurant in the county! Â I have a different sandwich every time, as does my husband and have never been disappointed. Â They have the best chili and variety of soups too. Â The cooks and waitstaff are made up of extended family and work like a well oiled machine. Â And they are not only very accomodating to changes you want but do it in a cheerful way. Â I highly recommend this restaurant!!
Review Source:What a cool place. Â Stopped here after an afternoon spent at the Aerial Adventure Park at Catamount. Â Gypsy Joint has a great charm with a lot of chotchkies on the walls.
Yummy food, would go an hour out of my way to stop here on the way to Monteal from the Big Apple.
Recommend both things I got on my first visit:
* Homemade Pesto Cheese Bread = D-Licious
* Oven-baked Manzo Focaccia Burger: PMS with a Blue Ball (BBQ sauce, bacon, caramelized onions, jalepenos, loads of mac and cheese topped with potato chips. The side is a blue cake ball. No other choice. = how can you not love a burger topped with 2 sides and cake for dessert
We had a long drive back after us, otherwise we would have stayed for the live music. Â Looking forward to visiting again.
Gypsy Joynt is a peculiar restaurant at first glace. Â It seems to be more biker bar than family-friendly establishment. Â But, ultimately, they serve high-quality, well prepared food at very reasonable prices, have a fully-stocked bar with beer taps, and offer plenty of desserts to-go. Â I'm not sure I'd take my whole family here, and it's certainly not right for a date night, but if you're looking for a casual spot for a quick bite, it's absolutely worth a look.
Review Source:The pizza here is great, if you like a chewy, fairly thick crust. Â The toppings are plentiful and fresh and are offered up in many unique combinations. Â My favorite thing is how the salads are served in rather large metal mixing bowls - you feel as though a salad can be a meal when you're trying to avoid pizza and other bread-y items. Â
However - and this is a big one - the service at Gypsy Joynt is awful. Â Every single time - and I've been at least 6 times - it has been the same. Â I am a warm person by anyone's standards, so I'm always taken aback by the cold shoulder. Â This family is so unfriendly that it's actually rather unbelievable. The young woman who is most often on the register is unwelcoming, indifferent, and disaffected as to be almost comical, if I weren't giving money to her parent's business. Â She is like a character in a movie - too cool for school - as are her siblings. Â One friend of mine has hypothesized rather humorously that the family is in a witness protection program (they're that odd in their roles as hosts of a popular restaurant - you'd think that they'd be all smiles). Check it out for the food and location and see what I mean! Â I hope that your experience is different.
Their key lime pie is a huge hit at my house, which is why I keep coming back in spite of the unpleasant service. Â I dash in and dash out again, unless there is good music on stage making it worth staying.
Just so everybody is aware, this place is a go up and order your food, type of place. Every single thing on the menu is delicious and their pizza is HUGE for the price ( compared to others in the area) and, honestly, better! Â
they have all sorts of live music on different days of the week, and plenty of relaxed seating. Can get a bit crowded, so be prepared.
They also serve up some tasty muffins and great coffee ( lattes ) in the early morning too, so for those that get to GB early, this is a quiet nice place to stop for a cup and a quick snack, too.
They dont always accept phone orders to go, on busy nights, so sometimes that is hit or miss. Something to consider if you are planning on ordering out.
Overall, for the quality of food, the atmosphere and such, i give these guys 5 stars because i do love their food!
Went for lunch yesterday and the place was PACKED! I ordered wings which were good, the Gong Wrap which was excellent and an iced chocolate raspberry which was also very good.
If you are not into eating in a cramped, bus your own tables environment then this is not your place. But if you are looking for a great lunch spot, Gypsy Joint is it.
We walked in on Sunday and a sign outside said we are closed between 3pm and 5pm. Â Ok on a busy Sunday I guess they wanted to take a nap? Â The owners can do what they like. Â We came in at 2pm and found a table. Â At 2:10 we went on line ( a real line and on the internet ) and they told me that they decided to close at 2pm not 3pm. Â Not very respectful to their customers. Â I definitely did not feel the love but I felt the back of their hand on my face when they threw us out.
Review Source:Our innkeepers told us of this place, so we gave it a shot. Â And another, and another, until the kids said "No More!"
We first went for lunch -- you order your food at the bar, then they bring it out to you. Â When you're done, you bus your own table. Â Some have taken issue with this do-it-yourself aesthetic, but it didn't bother us in the slightest. Â Water is served out of an ice-filled cooler, and there are cups next to the cooler for you to help yourself. Â Sodas and draft beers are served in mason jars.
Lunch was great. Â I had the reuben (my go to first sandwich most places) and it knocked my socks off, and I wasn't sure what to expect in this hippie joint. Â The kids got burgers which were huge and juicy. Â My wife's salad was quite large and very tasty.
I came back the next evening, late, to drop my oldest off at SoCo Creamery (right up the street) to meet a friend who was coincidentally working as a camp counselor in the area; so I had a hour or so to kill, so I went to the Joynt and enjoyed a Blue Moon and some live music.
The next night, we tried to get a seat at Baba Louie's for dinner around 8:00 as friends have been telling us to go there for years, but the line was out the door, so we went to the Joynt instead and found tables right away. Â I had the spaghetti and meatball which was served in a giant bowl which I couldn't finish. Â The kids each got personal pizzas and the my wife got a different salad. Â All high marks.
The barkeep's band was having "an open rehearsal" on the stage, as they ran through a bunch of laid back songs. Â The band wasn't too loud (we were seated right next to them) which is a welcome relief of so many places that offer live music which is impossible to speak over.
I'd go back in a heartbeat.
Went for a hike in the morning, and found this spot in the center of town. This place was perfect. A lot of options; when we decided our meals were great. They make fresh bread and bakery items on site (i.e. fococcia, muffins, cinammon roles, etc.) all of which look delicious; I didn't actually try any of them. The service was as to be expected; not overly friendly but not rude. They had a nice beer selection. Lastly, the vibe was very cool...seems they have live bands on some nights and the place can get pretty rocking. If you're in the area, stop in it's well worth it.
Review Source:Fabulous! Â We were out in the Berkshires for some mothers' day horseback riding, and I wanted to find a special spot for lunch. Â Ideally, it would be a come-as-you-are kind of place where we'd be ok going a little grubby and smelling like hay and sweaty leather, but the food and atmosphere would still need be quality. Â Enter the Gypsy Joynt! Â It was all of that and then some.
Very conveniently located in the heart of Main Street, Great Barrington, the Gypsy Joynt was a friendly and welcoming standout on its block. Â The atmosphere was friendly and warm with a Bohemian flair, and the crowd was diverse with hipsters and church ladies alike. Â I'm glad that I had read some yelp reviews ahead of time and knew important details like we should order at the bar, bus our own table, and just generally expect minimal service.
They have an extensive selection of over-stuffed, creative sandwiches, as well as pizza, salads, soups, specialty dogs & sausages, and even some pasta dishes. Â We wound up with the E-I-E-I-O sandwich on homemade focaccia, the Ole Oso on the same focaccia, and the Coujou Good "Wedgie" which is kind of like a big sandwich-quesadilla thing on homemade pizza crust. Â All of the sandwiches are served with a choice of sides...we got roasted sweet potatoes with one (delicious), and salads (plentiful and quality stuff) with the other two. Â Everything was super fresh and well-prepared, and we all agreed that you could really taste the love and soul that went into the food.
The coujou was my favorite. Â It had grilled shrimp (perfectly cooked), andouille, grilled veggies, greens, tomatoes, pepper jack cheese, and a very cool honey-orange yogurt sauce. Â Lots of big flavors on folded-over pizza crust that was grilled but still very soft and doughy...kind of reminded me of a thick, moist naan? Â Hard to describe, but completely delicious! Â The pulled pork on the ole oso was excellent. Â Everything was just bursting with flavor and the plates were overflowing.
They have a help-yourself water, iced tea and silverware station at the far end of the bar, and there are rolls of paper towels on each table. Â For me, all of that stuff, along with busing your own table, just adds to the friendly, community vibe.
We bought some cookies on the way out...chocolate chip, garbage, sweet/salty, and the other one I forget..maybe something maple/pecan? Â The chocolate chip was my fave by far. Â The sweet & salty didn't have a whole lot going on, and the garbage had EVERYTHING going on but was too sweet for me. Â But that's just me :)
We all loved everything, and I can't wait to go back.
This place is very strange to me. The decor and concept of the place is something I would not usually visit, but my friends said I had to give it a try.
I am glad I listened. I have had lunch here, the portions are huge, the burgers are great and the soups are always fresh. We went for New Years Eve, and it was even stranger, but it really was a great time! They have Blue Moon on tap, and the bar staff is great. Really a good time, and we cant wait to visit friends again and hit the Gypsy Joint!
Next time you go, look and see if you can find Brian.....Hes usually displaying his BPMs!
By far my favorite Restaraunt in Great Barrington. Â Everything on the menu is unique. Â They make the best pizza in town and their salads and sandwiches are amazing. Â Their desserts are addicting! Â So if you are in the mood for a down to earth, super casual atmosphere. Â This should be your next stop!
Review Source:Well, as usual, "there's one in every crowd" as they say.
There always seems to be one individual (like a certain someone in these ratings) who finds everything wrong... with all the right things...
Let's see...
1. Family Run... and the problem is? Most of the town finds it to be the thing that sets them apart.
Three generations of a family working together to bring the Hippest thing that has hit GB in years!!
2. Cafeteria... umm, no! It's a restaurant in which you bus your own table... okay, maybe too radical an idea for some to see its finer, advantageous side. If you didn't notice, no tips are expected, tables are always ready, and you order at the counter instead of waiting for the waitress to show up.
3. Stressed out and no smiles... I guess some folks always have a bright and "sunny disposish" and never have a day where they're not exuding radiant sunbeams upon all.
So, you've have a hard day trying to get your new business off the ground? Â You better treat me like your best friend anyway!!!
4. Low quality paper towels? Ummm, these are commonly known as re-cycled... which generally cost more than the higher class Bounty variety.... and yes you actually have to tear them off yourself... woe is me!
5.The food.. well there's no arguing with personal taste, but I'd go by the fact that most of the town loves their food... they're always packed!
PS Â A majority of their fare is brought to you via their support of local growers.
6. Again, no pleasantries, or "come back soon"... funny, I always see them hopping around to all the tables to make sure everyone's doing AOK.
With the laundry list of bad points that you were piling up, I'd venture to say that You're air may not have been the most cordial.
Karma CAN be a nuisance!
Anyway folks, I'll say it again... The Joynt is the Best thing that has happened to GB in a loooooonnng time!
Oh yeah... and an Awesome open-mic every Wednesday eve!
Poor service, apathetic staff, food so-so, decor laughable.
Went on a Friday night, party of 5, not very busy, our order took about 40 minutes to get soup and chili.
Busing table to a loaded, gross, messy station was not worth the savings you supposed get. Â
Childs crib in the kitchen? - seems like some kind of health or child welfare violation.
Will not go back.
Wow. Â After all the Yelp reviews, we had high expectations. Â My wife and kids wanted to give it 1 star. Â
As you walk in, it looks like a normal restaurant with a bar to the left and a place for a band to the right. Â It is actually a cafeteria. Â We grabbed menus and were told to pick a table. Â We didn't know there were no waitresses at first and sat there waiting for a waitress for a while. Â I went up to the counter and was told to place an order there. Â It's a family operation. Â The mom and daughter were behind the counter and in the front of the restaurant. Â The dad I believe is cooking in the back. Â Maybe we hit the wrong day but both the mom and daughter seemed stressed out and not happy. Â No smiles or pleasantries at all.
If you want silverware or water, you need to go to the back of the place behind the pastry counter to get it. Â The napkins are on a roll of low quality paper towels and you tear them off.
We ordered a pretzel which was OK. It had a few grains of salt on it. Â We had the bread sticks which were baked pizza dough pieces and tasted like that. Â We ordered grilled/baked vegetables. Â It was mostly potatoes and carrots with some small pieces of sweet potato. Â The spicing on it was OK. Â Mostly Oregano I believe. Â We ordered a pizza with mushrooms. Â Â It was OK. Â I would prefer Baba Louies pizza across the street. Â This is not NY Pizza. Â It's like pizza you would make in your house. Â Edible but not great.
After the meal, we bussed our trays to the garbage can in the back of the restaurant.
You never see a bill or total when you want to pay. Â Â They just tell you how much you owe and you pay. Â Kind of a strange setup. Â No come again or pleasantries from the staff on your exit...
I will say that we went in at 3pm on saturday. Â We didn't see live music and maybe that's when this place shines.. Â Don't know. Â I dont think we would return.
If I could give 10 stars, I would! This place did a take-away lunch and dinner for a group of 60 of us last week. On top of the food being outstanding, they were super easy to deal with and had both orders ready to go exactly when we asked for them, was a very easy transaction. The lunch sandwiches especially were a HUGE hit with everyone, and I looked like a rockstar for making the find :).
Wish I'd had time to actually hang out in the restaurant space itself. Passing through several times to set up the meal order and for pickup, I could tell this place has a great energy and was always buzzing with a  good, eclectic crowd. Great intimate stage setup for live music. This would be the place I would hang if I had had time to spare in town.
My boyfriend and I were visiting Great Barrington for the evening, trying to decide between pizza places. Baba Louie's had a wait, so we headed across the street to Gypsy Joynt.
Although we stood at the entrance like clueless out-of-towners for a couple minutes, we eventually figured out that we could grab a table for ourselves. There was a big birthday party going on (happy birthday, BJ!) and a bunch of groups of families. It's a lively, friendly atmosphere.
We knew we were in good hands when we saw a menu item named after Nuke Laloosh. Â The pizza was good. Simple and fresh. They have a great selection of drinks--a lot of variety.
If we were local, we'd definitely be regulars here. Very cool, laid back place.
What a gem! Â
This food is awesome! Â I had the texas bbq pizza and cheesy pesto bread and it was amazing. Â The food was organic and the combination in tastes were great! Â
The atmosphere was very laid back - kind of reminded me of a hippy Bohemian laid-back place to listen to local musicians and have great food. Â
I also had some desserts and WOW. Â Their cakeballs were moist and sweet (and quite humorously packaged - I like a place with a sense of humor) but my favorite dessert was their sweet and salty cookie. Â I'm still craving it as I write this.
We have a lot of family in this area so I'm definitely coming back whenever I'm in town. Â This has become my new favorite place in Great Barrington!
I agree with Parker. This place is a great addition to the Great Barrington restaurants. Been a few times and seems to get better.
The food was very good. A huge selection of burgers, wraps, foccacia, etc. Desserts are a specialty, everything from tiramasu to moon pies. The times we've been there it is a very laid back atmosphere. Example: A huge family of maybe 10, with small children wondering around between tables, that sort of thing. But also some older people who were able to keep to themselves. This would be a great place to go after a day skiing or kayaking. The portions are very good size. So you might want to share, or plan to bring home some leftovers.
The last time I went, they had on some musicians. And I thought they did a great job with that. They limited the performances to just a few songs at most. So if you didn't happen to like the artist, you didn't have long to wait until another came up. But actually we really enjoyed all the performers that night.
Maybe it is a bit expensive, but that's because everything is made there. The breads for instance, are made on the premises. A lot of the soft drinks are not your typical snapple type. More interesting options.
It's not fine dining. But it's a very unique spot. I doubt you will forget your visits to Gypsy Joynt.
