I love the idea that throughout small towns in Iowa there can be original, trendy, and fresh places to eat. We loved our time there. Great menu. And all the flavors are thought out and tasty. Just a few simple mistakes like over cooking my burger and under cooking my wives Brusselsprouts are why I'm not giving it a five.

While I can't speak for the dining experience, I've had catered meals from here twice now.  I feel like a catered meal can be hit or miss - you have to combat keeping the food at temperature but not overcooked during travel and while waiting for everyone to get settled and serve themselves.

The pork loins were tender and easy to cut, even with my plastic cutlery.  Delicious steamed veggies.  Fresh salad made with vibrant greens, bright red ripe tomatoes, crisp cucumbers.  Not a limp leaf in sight.

Finished the meal with what may have been the best chocolate chip cookie I've ever had in my cookie eating life.  I don't get all that excited about cookies, but these were fresh from their oven no more than an hour before it hit my mouth.  I broke the cookie in half and was greeted with the sight of clusters of huge chocolate chips, still melty and gooey.  Heavenly.

I don't know if I'll ever make it to Marengo to eat, but I'm super glad they cater to our work location!!

Definitely worth going to when in the area - good food, simple atmosphere and friendly if slow service - I'd go again.

I have eaten here several times and tried various things on the menu. My favorite is still the ribs with raspberry bbq sauce. But I've never had a bad meal here. They have a great variety on their menu and different foods than you can find anywhere around here.

Storefront-style restaurant on the main street with big windows on the front. Local art and primitives on the walls. They sometimes have local acoustic musicians. It's a great ambience here.

One of my favorite places to go for Sunday brunch. This place is top notch and has some of the tastiest food pleasures around. I live in Cedar Rapids and have no problem going for an hour drive to go to Phat Daddy's for brunch. So worth it!!!

Don't let the stupid name fool you. The food at the Sunday brunch was great and very inexpensive. Worth the drive from Iowa City.

A chef quality restaurant in small town Iowa still seems out of place, but it's getting more common all the time.  Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids turns out some talented grads in it's culinary arts program.  Such is the case with Phat Daddy's in Marengo.

We had an hour wait for a table on a recent Friday night so after a few laps around the town square we were good and hungry.  We started with the calamari and bruschetta.  The bruschetta was pretty good, although not everyone appreciated the capers.  The calamari was chewy and not very flavorful.  I had the ribs with the raspberry BBQ sauce (good call), everyone liked it!  My wife also enjoyed her salmon.   They did a nice job decorating the old building and the service was very friendly if not particularly fast.  Worth coming back for.
