Hagar Bar & Grill

No, this is not a 4-star restaurant, but we love it for what it is, so I give it 4 Yelp stars.  :)  If you want light/fresh/organic/gourmet, this is not the place!!  If you want some good bar food, friendly service in a comfortable, old-school establishment, this is your place!

We have been here enough times where a couple of the staff do recognize us, but we are definitely not "regulars".  Be prepared to get the "you don't belong here" look if you walk into the bar, because they certainly do have local regulars.  However, the staff is generally quite friendly.  I think we had one off night where the server wasn't very good, or just in a bad mood.  But we were also there on $1 burger night with something like $1.25 draft beers, so for a food bill for two under $10 I'm not going to complain a ton.  :)  Typically the service has been wonderful, exceptionally friendly and we've met the owner.

Food-wise, they have EXCELLENT fish baskets.  You get a ton of food if you order the fish dinners.  Everything is really reasonable, except their mixed drinks are kind of tiny for the price, so I just stick with beer.  Burgers are decent and I've had a single serving pizza, which was also good.  They have specials just about every night of the week, pizza & pitcher night, burger basket night as previously mentioned, fish specials on Fridays, and others throughout the week.  

The atmosphere is borderline dive bar, with a classic summertime lakeshore twist.  They have a ton of cool photos all over the walls, from former customers, summer vacationers, families members... I'm not really sure, but they span decades.  We love looking at all the old pictures.  Although the restaurant is not ON the lakeshore directly, it is definitely in the midst of a summer vacation home area.  We've seen posters for karaoke later in the evenings and live bands/DJs, so I think this place picks up at night, especially on the weekends.  Usually when we are here, it is not overly busy (which is kind of nice for us!).  They do have a good sized patio where you can eat.  It's not all that scenic or peaceful, it just overlooks the parking lot, but it's still preferable to eating inside when the weather is nice.

Overall, this is one of our favorite local joints when we want some bar food, a cold beer and a relaxing place to hang out.

Hagar Billy Bar!! I adore this place, it has the best atmosphere of any bar i've been in, the wait staff and bar tenders are gorgeous and polite, friendly and personable. The food at the Hagar Bar is not to be taken lightly it is truly great! The beer is cold and everything is reasonably priced. I go to the Hagar Bar everytime I'm over in Covert.

Fantastic Onion rings! Mini tacos are good! Stick with the bar food like burgers and sandwiches and you will enjoy your dinner. The chicken alfredo wasn't all that.
