3 stars, keeping in mind that this is Surfside, and you need to have the right expectations. Â You're not coming here for the food, you're coming here for the beach.
The lady who was serving us during our afternoon lunch run was nice enough. Â
We went to a couple of hamburger joints during our stay in Surfside---from what I can tell, the only speed available for hamburgers is "well-done." Â Accept it.
After a long day of fishing at the beach, we showered off, grabbed dinner, and walked over to the Hammerhead Bar for drinks. The weather was gorgeous and suprisingly cool for early June, and I immediately plopped my happy butt down on the patio with an ice-cold bottle of ($3) Shiner. Surfside isn't prettiest beach in the world (by a long shot), but the view of the sun setting on the water- from where I sat- was good enough for that brief weekend getaway.
Service was good, and after the boys went inside to play pool, our little blonde waitress stuck around to chat and keep me company for a bit. I can't say that I ate anything here since we had just gotten dinner beforehand, but I did hear both tables on either side of me order burgers. After taking a bite, one guy exclaimed that the burger was awesome and immediately ordered another.
I gave up on the patio and joined the boys inside after it had gotten pitch-black (and I heard the bar owners talking about the "crazy Surfside mosquitoes"). The inside was a bit chilly but nothing unbearable. There was an amazing alternative cover band playing, and while it was loud inside, I think that people need to remember that live, alternative-rock music isn't supposed to soft and peaceful.
I'm glad I gave this place a shot despite the 2 bad/meh reviews. A good time was had by all, and without hesitation, I will be back if I'm ever in Surfside again.
Tip: those locals weren't kidding about mosquitoes...they must be mutants or something. I got one bite walking back at the end of the night, and it puffed up and left a mark (no, I did not scratch) for a whole month. Bring repellant!
Bartenders here don't know how to make a Cape Cod or really any drink for that matter. Ask them! They are glorified beer bitches. As the other reviewer mentioned, they were out of many of their items on the menu which is disappointing because as was mentioned there aren't a great number of options in the area. Smoking is allowed in this establishment apparently; nevermind the splitting headache it gives to patrons such as myself. It WAS cold in here. On the plus everything was kept decently clean and the bar interior itself is a spacious with a nice overlook patio. Way overpriced!
Review Source:This place has music that is way too loud, air conditioning that is way too cold, and only three items on the menu: fried mushrooms, fried cheese, and friend jalapeños (or at least that is all they had available when I was there). However, there aren't too many options in Surfside and after a long day of surfing, it's nice to eat some fried cheese, drink a cold beer, and play some pool, so it's hard to complain.
