It's pretty chill. The staff is nice but something here isn't right with the beer. Whatever it was that i got tasted fine but the other two people i was with ordered 2 separate beers on draft 2 different times which all tasted flat and gross. I know its a college bar and really doubt there are high expectations here but for graduation weekend when you know all the families are in and you are going to be packed, i feel like you should clean your lines or whatever is the cause of your bad drafts. Food took a while to get there but it was expected as they seemed pretty busy. seating outside is nice enough.
Review Source:hey ! i am rating this based on my recent takeout experience. I ordered a reuben over the phoen and the guy working it was SO rude. He laughed at me while takin gmy order just cause I asked to add spinach and tomatoes... complicated right ? lol so anyway when i went to pick up the food the guy  was so rude and didnt even acknowledge me except to pay ...just horrible service. the food was NOT GOOD. soggy bread. cold. barely any fries.. not worth the money.  i called back today and asked for a refund and the manager refunded me but before that he was saying do u want a gift card and trying to make it sound like it would be hard to refund me lol. i wont come back here again and  i was disappointed because my friend really hyped this place. up.
Review Source:We came in the day after Christmas for a late lunch. Â Two adults and two kids. Â The food was great. Â My husband had a Big Ten burger and thought it was really good. Â I had the Ultimate Cheeseburger. Â I loved the pretzel bun, and the burger was good, but I got it specifically for the cheddar stout sauce and I couldn't even tell if it was actually on the burger. Â I had to add some mayonaise since it was kind of dry. Â I wish I had tried the Olive Burger! Â My daughter's chicken strips were delicious though, and my son's mac and cheese at least had some cheddar thrown on top and melted (high praise for children's menu mac and cheese!) Â
Our only real complaint was that we were seated in the area by the bar and it was COLD. Â Really cold, with ceiling fans blowing on us. Â We decided it wasn't worth moving, but it really wasn't pleasant.
I love the Pub and although I don't live in E.L. any longer, would still list it as one of my favorite bars. It's pretty straight forward, decent drinks and variety of beer, bar food, and a jukebox with some variety. You can usually catch the game on one of their TVs, and once you become a regular...there will always be some faces you recognize (sometimes even years later). The staff has been pretty great over the years, and if you are good to them, they are good to you. Yes, you should go to the Roadhouse Pub.
Review Source:I didn't feel like cooking a few Fridays ago, so I walked over to Harrison Roadhouse with my roommate for their all-you-can-eat fish fry special. It was a good decision. I had visited HR with friends some time ago for burgers and sandwiches. It was all a little bit greasy, but certainly not offensively so.
One thing I've always appreciated in my 3 or 4 visits to HR is the quality of their waitstaff. They look to be young adults or students like myself, but they behave and carry themselves with a certain professional reservation that I would expect at more upscale restaurants. In other words, their dialogue and mannerisms seem a notch above casual but not snooty or pompous, as if we're not in a college town anymore. I get the pro vibe even when I go to the Roadhouse Pub on the other side of the lot. at first I wasn't used to it, but I realized that it surprised only because I expected more casual attitudes from a college spot. It's a refreshing experience in itself that HR ought to capitalize on further.
They seem to rotate their beer selection fairly often. They seem to have at least one Founder's and Bell's in the mix, as well as more obscure choices.
The fish, though, was very good, despite it not being traditional battered cod. They served tilapia instead; perhaps they had cod or haddock on request, but I didn't think to ask. The tilapia still worked well, as the smaller thin-ish fillets had a much lighter feel and crunch than traditional fry batter; I liked the deviation. The fillets were also minimally seasoned. I've always appreciated this practice for fried foods; if I wanted it to be saltier, I could just dump it on from the shaker (that is, if it's too salty from the get-go, then there's not much I could do about it).
The first two fillets come on a fair-sized bed of fries, and after that our waiter asked if we wanted more as we looked to be finishing up the 2nd fillet. Additional fillets also come in pairs on a saucer, without fries. The dish also comes with coleslaw and what looks like homemade tartar sauce, i.e. more than just a mix of jarred mayo and jarred relish.
For $11 or $12, you can certainly get your money's worth of fish. I think next visit I'll try a dessert.
The skinny bartender showed major attitude toward us and I did not appreciate it . Upon completion of an exciting spartan victory, my brothers and I wanted to order Royal Butt shots. At the beginning of the game we had three that were shaken on the rocks and seemed watered down. When I ordered the second batch , I explained this to the bartender and she proceeded to make them the same way. I stopped were while she was shaking the drink and asked again for it up. She looked at us and said you mean you want me to pour these out and pour the shots in these glasses and I said yes. She seemed very put off by that proceeded to pour the drinks down the drain and make the additional shots, did not serve them to us and walked into the kitchen never to return. Anyway it was a bad finish to an exciting night of basketball. Spent four hours in the car to return to the Alma Matter to be treated like crap from some skinny female bartender. This place is off my list of stopovers.
Review Source:Good food, great beer selection, nice and friendly waitstaff. Â I used to come here when I lived in E.L. years ago. Â My sister worked here years ago as well and I used to know most of the people who worked there.
We had the misfortune of coming here around 8:30pm on a Saturday night after an MSU home football game. Â Apparently there are some regulars who get drunk and chant loudly and are really loud and obnoxious. Â They kept doing the: "What time is it? Â It's 8:30 and Michigan still sucks".
Funny the first time. Â
Not so funny the second time. Â
Two hours later and they're still doing it? Â Infuriating.
Why isn't the manager telling them to shut the f*ck up? Â You'd think it would be guys doing this but no, it was a couple of extremely loud women who looked like truck drivers who haven't been treated well by Father Time. Â They were in a group but the two of them were almost the entire noise factor for the whole place.
The bartender sheepishly told us between laughs that the women are regulars who pretty much do what they want b/c they're regulars and spend a lot. Â If I lived in town and they were there, I would turn right around, walk out the door and go anywhere else.
HINT: Â The manager needs to do something about telling them to shut up. Â Either you're a nicer place or you're a dive who lets the idiots dictate the noise policy. Â The interior is nice, the carved wood is awesome and there are the usual assortment of road signs. Â I can't fathom how they allow the lowest common denominator ruin the atmosphere for the other patrons. Â I'm wondering if that's why the place was almost empty at 8:30pm on a home game day. Â People chased out by the yelling at the bar.
Get rid of the idiot clientele or have them keep it down and the place goes to 4 stars.
Came here for a late lunch with a bunch of people I just met. :-p
Miller's Thriller- Roast Beef, Corned beef, sauteed onions, swiss cheese (I think) melted between marbled rye bread, with a side of sour cream 'n chopped onion to spread as much (or as little) as you'd like between the bread. Â Just $8.99 with a side of fries (Waffle fries or Onion rings cost you a dollar extra, fyi). Pretty darned good, I have to say. Â I would've wished the corned beef was a bit saltier. Â But no real complaints. (4)
I don't think I'll have much time to try a ton of other places while I'm here in Lansing, but at least this place gave me a good impression.
Such a welcoming place in East Lansing! Â It feels like a roadhouse/pub inside and looks like one from the outside. Â It's located on the corner and happened to be right down the street from my house so it was a great place to go and grab a drink.
I have eaten there once and when I went it was great and I highly advise you to grab some friends and have a drink. Â It'll be a great time!
This is a fine sports bar/ restaurant. Tip: don't order a salad. I started with the side caesar  salad...the croutons were stale and the lettuce was from a bag. I followed it up with the pork and cheddar sandwich (diets don't exist in MI it turns out...), clearly the hands-on, messy food is where they excel. Twas tasty.
My server was really nice, didn't bother me too much and was super nice about me reading at his table for an hour.
I don't think this place is about the food...if there was a Michigan State football game on TV, it would probably be the best place of all time. It screamed fun, was full of young attractive people, and was conveniently placed right across from campus.
One of my mainstays and a home away from home. Â I've spent full days here during March Madness. Â
The atmosphere is fun. Â The food is better than your typical bar food. Â Burgers are good. Â Most everything is good and a little more creative than many bars. Â They have great drink specials. Â
One of the great things about this place it that it's a sure bet for bringing out of town guests. Â There is something for everyone and they get a real sense of the East Lansing experience.
I eat here a LOT... too much honestly.. Â it's been one of my mainstays for 20 years in town. Â I recommend their burgers.. ask for the chipolte aioli on your burger... worth having a burger for. Â
I also like their flautas and burritos.  I know they aren't a  mexican restaurant but I like them, anyway.  You will find a decent meal here.. NOT great.. not terrible. Good though.  Service is mainly from college age kids.. so it can be spotty.
There are only two restaurants that served Garden Burger brand veggie burgers in East Lansing: Peanut Barrel and HRH. I ventured HRH with friends on Valentine's Day. The service was OK, not the quickest or friendliest, but the meal made up for it. I had a veggie burger, customized with roasted red peppers, swiss cheese and grilled onions, all for $10. Competitive if you ask me.
Review Source:Another place with good bloody marys and a decent lunch menu. Â I like this place for its simplicity, and for the fact that it's a bar/restaurant with another bar attached to it, just in case you're too rowdy for the restaurant crowd. Â Also, that bar has free popcorn, which is weird but ultimately a good thing I'm pretty sure.
Review Source:I honestly came to Michigan with very low expectations... I thought we would be eating at fast food and chain restaurants left and right. And granted I did have my fare share of overeating at horribly delicious chain restaurants... But I also got to experience a college sports bar... A REAL college sports bar. Because honestly, all of San Francisco's college sports teams suck, so we don't really have that loyalty or enthusiasm like other places do, like Michigan, for their college teams. Shit, the college I went to doesn't even have a football team anymore! Yeah, we don't take our alma mater's sporting events too seriously out here.
So I got to experience a college sports bar... Granted college is out for the summer, but still, I got to see the Spartan colors hanging high in all of its glory... My boyfriend looked at it in disgust (go blue!?). So that was cool... Another fact that I liked about this bar that its has super tasty and cheap bar food. Great bar food at that! None of that fancy beer battered deep fried asparagus or ahi tuna tar-tar. No no no, I ate things like mini corn dog bites, deep fried mac n cheese, crab rangoon (so random but totally delicious), chicken tenders, and anything else you could think of that would be good when fried (which is everything, right?)!
To say the least, I was in heaven. They had a rocking jukebox where I got to blast all the Ben Harper, Paul Simon, and Michael Jackson I could dream of! Oh what a glorious night of beer, fried food, and friends... I'll definitely be coming back to this place on my next journey to the Midwest!
I was on the search for a good burger. Â Not the greatest burger or Mickey D's either.,.just a good, juicy burger. Â Well, I found it here at Harrison's. Â I ordered a medium burger with pepper jack, raw onions and jalapenos (don't knock it 'til you try it...it's delish) with a side of waffle fries and a Vernors. Â
Let's just say, the price didn't break the bank and the burger hit the spot. Â Thumb's up...
Charming pub as far as atmosphere but the food was just okay. They have great daily specials, Â but I was expecting to be wowed by their burger as there was a bunch of local hype about them. Didn't find the burger to be outstanding in any way shape or form. Everything we had was just okay. I'd come here again for drinks and maybe nosh on some bar food during a game, just wouldn't go out of my way to eat here.
Review Source:The quest to find the ultimate fish n' chips dinner is endless, and as Neal Peart once wrote, "the point of the journey is not to arrive." Â This is why us fish-heads (not to be confused with Phish-heads) repeatedly flock to destinations that offer what you'd think is a simple concoction. Â But you'd be surprised how many screw up the beer-battered cod recipe. Â Harrison Roadhouse did NOT screw it up. Â In fact, they excel in the fish n' chips department.
For $10.95, Harrison serves up three large meaty filets of cod and fries. Â The breading is nice and crispy and the cod nice and moist, the way it should be. Â You fellow cod-lovers know what I'm talking 'bout! Â
As I don't get to East Lansing very often, I don't know that I'd personally try anything else here when I next visit because once I find a fishy-foshy on the menu that is up to par, I'll probably order it every time. Â Like beer and whiskey and Telecasters, you gotta stick with the old reliable!
Not so much a "roadhouse" as it is a restaurant/pub. Â They did not have nearly the quantity of roadhouse type foods that I had expected (such as the typical steak heavy menu, etc), but that was Ok, because what was on the menu was ample and variety. Â They are on the pricey side, so keep that in mind when going there. Â Happy hour is nice, as drinks are half off. But even still our meal for for two was $46. ouch.
The food was delicious - although the salad was basic and blah (and they charged $2 extra for it!), the service was good during a busy time, and the ambiance is a fun sports bar in a brick facade. not too shabby.
It was not great, but it was not average either. 4 stars it is.
