It's a long story and the head waitress/owner will tell it to you if you ask: Hatcha's used to be down the road but had a fire. The restaurant moved to Angel Fire and has been successfully open for about two years now.
But the owner lives in Mora and she didn't want to commute, so they reopened Hatcha's in Mora in a new space, where the former Cowboy Cafe and Mad Cow Cafe were.
The restaurant: Stand in line, order at the counter. They deliver your food to your table. Two rooms, the front room heated with a wood stove in the winter, a larger room in the back. Excellent service, friendly servers and management.
The food: Standard diner food with care taken in its preparation. I've had shrimp tacos, which were excellent. Shrimps were pretty shrimpy (tiny) but there were plenty in the two hard shell tacos on the plate. Sides offer the standard french fries and onion rings, but other choices are beans, calabacitas, Spanish rice, and several more.
We've also eaten the patty melt which is a burger with green chile, cheese and grilled onions on Texas toast which is excellent. The beef and also the chicken tacos are excellent. There are breakfast foods as well as dinner, like meatloaf and chicken fried steak.
The lunchtime crowd is testament to the quality of their food. Yum.
