I wanted to like The Hatchery because my husband had been a few months before and couldn't stop raving about it. Maybe it was an off night, but it was terrible.
1) My husband's pork chop was visibly undercooked. When the server showed it to the cook, she (cook) wrinkled her nose up and cooked it longer. (In the end, we tossed it in the dumpster.) They did discount his meal.
2) The first meal they brought my husband was somebody else's meal. In hindsight, he probably should have kept that one. Ha
3) Our server was sick with a cold and coughing everywhere (never covering her mouth), rubbing her nose, etc., and not washing her hands. We witnessed her rolling silverware in paper napkins, use her hand and wipe snot (sorry!) up her nose, then return to rolling silverware without washing hands.
4) Getting tea/soda/water refills was close to impossible. Another server took pity on us and refilled a couple of times. The bartender felt the need to chat with her each time, so we would wait...and wait.
5) All 3 of us were sick all night with "stomach ailments" (to be polite). We each ate different meals, so perhaps it was a coincidence, but it is worth mentioning.
I wish I could say this is our new favorite place to visit when we visit our college daughter, but the cleanliness issues were enough for us to never go back. The food that was right was very tasty, but I suspect the health department would shut them down if they visited. If nothing else, the snot-nosed hand that went on to roll silverware should be required to take a food handling course. Eww.
