Hayden's Bar & Grill

Ok, let's be honest. This is a dingy little dive of a bar on the main street of a hole-in-the wall city with "1640 friendly people and one grouch". However, this place has a certain allure to it and the staff are above average and food is pretty good.

We came here with family after a hot day playing on the beach. The inside is kind of dirty, the sink in the men's bathroom was missing a handle, and the children's booster seat had a 1/4 inch layer of dust on it. That's the bad part.

The good part is when we ordered drinks the waitress got them to us fast. We ordered burgers all around and the kids ordered a chicken strips basket to split. The kids were also craving bacon so I asked if we could get a couple pieces. The waitress went so far above and beyond that even though the food is probably a solid 3, this one waitress brought the level of the place up to a 4.

She brought out the kids food first and quickly, which is always a good thing. She had cooked up 4 chicken strips (the basket we ordered only came with 3) and had put 2 strips and a full order of fries on 2 baskets and gave one to each of the kids. She had also cooked up the bacon for the kids and didn't charge us for it.

The food was probably what I would call average bar food, better than McDonald's or other fast food but not exceptional.  However, Mrs. Waitress, whoever you are, you single-handedly showed what small town service should be all about.
